From an Athletic article on one breakout player per team in 2022

quote:

Minnesota Vikings: LT Christian Darrisaw

The team’s first-round pick in 2021, Darrisaw has the fewest pressures allowed (seven) of any Vikings starting offensive lineman, per TruMedia. Not to mention, among all offensive tackles, his PFF run-blocking grade in gap-scheme runs (79.4) — the Vikings’ primary run plays — ranks ninth in the NFL. Darrisaw’s potential has been evident since he returned from a core/groin injury that sidelined him last year until Week 5. Darrisaw said recently he feels as if his pass blocking is most improved, which is a welcome sign for an offense that leans heavily on giving the quarterback time in the pocket to complete throws. — Alec Lewis

Very promising. We may have found a solution at LT for many years to come.

Darrisaw is a stud in the making. Glad we were able to land him after that dangerous trade down.

Speilman the OL whisperer. Who knew.

More llke the blind squirrel found a nut

it was a little bit of sarcasm, given his overall record, a little bit of irony given our LT RT and RG. A little bit.

That's a bit of a fascinating scenario...

If Spielman had put together this line... but 2-3 years ago... would that change your opinion of him.

It probably would for me.

I still have a hard time swallowing the disaster of missing on 4 3rd rounders that you desperately traded into.

But LT/RT are so important and it looks like RT is solid (I'm not as high on O'Neil as some) and LT looks like it could be ROCK solid.
I have to give him props for that.

Ultimately... I'd still want to move on from him because of Cousins... I was willing to see what the initial contract would bring the Vikes... but the extensions were terrible IMO.

Early returns on Kwesi are mixed for sure... hoping the secondary picks work out long term.

we have a couple of solid tackles, nothing more...our guards are both rated #29 and beyond, and our center is at #18 in a fluke year....

we are weak in the middle, like we have been forever....

i really hope we make a trade for a solid cb with a year left on a deal before the trade deadline...I've heard Marcus Peters mentioned....

we need to draft a wr and te with our first two picks next year....

?

Go OL, DL, non-binary line, I don't care... no order... flip a coin.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/8/2022 11:28:46 AM)

We have GOT to move on from Cousins…

He defines mediocrity…

I’m pretty sure that KOC is not going to tie his Head Coaching career to a mediocre QB.

Getting rid of Cousins Cap number, and Cook’s cap numbers would free up so much space.

Those 2 are a $50 million salary cap # in 2023.

I’d like to see that money, used elsewhere.

Cook, Thielen and Harry Smith are a $40 mill cap # in 2024, plus we have 12 mill in dead cap to cousins..

Hopefully, Cook will be cut or traded, Smith and Thielen are getting pretty long in the tooth to command that kind of money.

JMO.

Can't argue with any of that. Cook is pretty much untradable with that backloaded contract and his less than stellar production. There is a potential out in 2023 per sportrac with 6.2ML dead cap hit.

donatell has to get some young blood in our defense....

i was just looking at pff rankings with our defensive starters, and we only have one player that is ranked under 30th in the league at his position....

dalvin tomlinson is ranked #11 under the position 'interior defender'...every other starter is ranked #30 or higher at their position....

metellus qualified for the ranking because he started against the lions and he's ranked #11 - but he's not starting these days....

we have five starters that are ranked over #50 in the league at their position....

somehow we're managing to keep the scoring down at a reasonable level....

at the present, we are $2mm under the cap...from my perspective, if we want to make a move before the trade deadline the only place we could go to raise some money is restructuring kendricks....

we're only $300 under the cap for 2023...we can raise about $24mm by cutting ham, cook, hicks, and harrison smith...if we decide that we're giving up on next season we could raise a lot more....

I couldn't find the win loss post London but so far this season 5 teams that have played over the pond w/o a bye week directly following it were dreadful in the next game.

We’re drawing from a small sample, but these trends fit what intuitively makes sense. These post-London teams aren’t scoring as much as expected, and the defenses are giving up a lot more points than anticipated. That’s the sort of thing a team does when it’s tired, jet-lagged and under-prepared, and it’s what we’re seeing.

Of the five post-London teams, three were thoroughly outplayed the following week by the numbers, and only one played relatively well.

Two of the five won, but both of them needed fumble luck for the winning score and could have lost. None of the five ever led comfortably, and each was in position to lose late.

Today we will find out how where KOC really is.

Zimmer always had these trap games and the team was flat.

Offense has not been great. Defense is horrible. Mr. Taco Bell soft shell is sooooo bad. Whoever posted that joke in here a few days ago, great job!

I'm ready for a blowout. That is what scares me.
