It was quite amazing how few penalties we had to begin the year. That's been changing.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 7:11:34 AM)

Another tidbit, Chi had not allowed a second half TD all year. Until they did yesterday. When it counted.

Of course it’s legal..

I'm teasing about the taxes. And am happy for you - especially since it seems you enjoyed it. I officially retired in May of 2020 - didn't really have to work since 3/13 'cause of the virus. I got my class A at a one day class in Mason City in Apr. Started driving truck locally in 8/2021 and have been making supplemental income and having adventures since. Ive been driving 7 days on 14 off recently for a big cooperation (think orange trailers) to satisfy my OTR fantasy I've had since I was a kid and my dad was in the business.
Nope, good for you, Dan. One issue I have had since I've started is getting my federal income tax right - hense the dig.

We have HR Block file.. rental property and self employed taxes are too tricky..

They stand for the return and pay any fees or interest penalty if the numbers are wrong.. never been audited…

Worth the cost to never have to do my taxes ..

Just wait till the add the 90,000 armed IRS agents

That only scares republitards, like you.

Boy, what a F up world we live in ....

Our OL still remains fairly unscathed. TE's were the violators yesterday.

I am still undecided about this team

I think we are a decent team, not great

In a below average conference we should be a top 5 team

I am starting to buy into Philly

9ers are good, but will be Jimmy limited

Cowboys are probably pretty good, yuck

Bucs seem like it may be too much drama

Not buying giants yet

Cards. Meh..

Rams.. I thought there was a good chance they would take a step back

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 9:28:44 AM)

I think the Vikings are pretty good. I don't think they can beat a team with a good QB or a good offensive minded coach because the Vikings pass defense seems to always be available to expose.

I agree

I hate to be too early to judge, because of new coaches and schemes, but it looks like the defense is concerning.

My biggest concern is the idea that the passes they are leaving open are easy over the middle ones....any NFL QB can make those throws... maybe even the Ponders of the league

At least make them test outside the hashes

Throw in minimal pressure on the QB...

Makes me think we are in trouble

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 9:49:38 AM)

The Vikings can beat a team with a good QB, and an offense minded HC at home, can they do it on the road ?

Maybe Scheme is important?

The Vikings' offensive line has been VERY good this season, by multiple measurements.

Per
@PFF
-- 14th in pass protection and 4th in run blocking.

Per ESPN -- 6th in pass block win rate and 7th in run block win rate.

The #Vikings offensive line, per PFF:

-Christian Darrisaw #2 tackle
-Garrett Bradbury #10 center
-Ezra Cleveland #11 guard
-Brian O'Neill #13 tackle

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 10:26:35 AM)

I think we can win quite a few games this year and not be anything special. I think we have more than a fair shot at the rest of our games...except Buffalo. They could beat us by 30.

I'd call us a decent team that could be prone to getting absolutely spanked to end our season.

The Wilfs will be happy. Good chance at a home playoff game.

Wish we could trade for a corner.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 10:33:12 AM)

I'd love to see a breakdown on Cook's runs.

Seems he either gets 0 to 2 or 10 to 12. I'd like to know why.

I watched a couple of the highlight reels out there and just focused on the OL.

Darrisaw is just dominant.

One of the first passes to JJ, Darrisaw immediately gets beat by Quinn?
It's looking like a free run at Kirk... but he recovers and gets a push on the DE shoulder as he rounds the corner that not only pushes him beyond the pocket but ends up putting him on the ground.

Most of the rest of the highlights he just completely stones his guy.

Very excited about Darrisaw.

Vikes are going to be 4-1 after week 5. Bookmark it.

We have our problems same as always but now we don’t have grandpa wrecking every thing for the sake of his stubborn ego. Heck, cousins is playing some of his worst football and we’re still coming out on top.

It was very apparent we were not a team last year, regardless of talent level

So glad we flushed that era

Modern age running QBs are a problem as well.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:10:50 PM)

We no doubt climbed from 28th in 3rd down conversion percentage.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:15:58 PM)

QB Rating

Hurts. 80.6, 108.7, 123.5 (Wash), 72.8, 89.9
Goff. 80.3, 121.7, 79.0, 121.5, 62.7
Fields. 85.7, 43.8, 27.7, 76.7, 118.8

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:20:05 PM)

Fields had never broken a 100 rating in his short career except yesterday with his ~ 119 rating.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:20:22 PM)

My $0.02:

Monday is always better after a win.

I will always take a win, but that one could have been 38 - 6.

I was afraid they would come out flat and the UK trip. NOT!! holy shit!!

That was a game we would have lost under Zimmer.

Going for it on 4th down at mid-field late in the game was also something Zimmer would not have done. We would have punted and CHI would have run out the clock.

Not sure what happened to the offense. Clearly two missed FG and an INT don't help...but I think CHI started to bring a bit more pressure and we didn't adjust well. It allowed for some longer runs when the RB got past the LOS, but we need to clean that shit up.

On the INT KFC had a guy (I think Ham) wide open underneath.

A couple of big runs by Fields and and insane catch kept CHI drives alive.

Tackling needs to improve.

I liked the couple of wrinkle plays - the WR pass, the shuffle to Raegor....

Our LB still feel very invisible to me.

ST shit the bed this week. The missed FG and 5-yard punt kinda sucked!!

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:34:17 PM)

I think the team’s problems could damn near be summed up with one sentence: Kirk cousins was outplayed by justin fields, at home. What a shame considering how hot Kirk started off and equally shameful allowing fields to have such a successful day by his standards.

In successive weeks we've allowed Jared Goff, Andy Dalton, and Justin Fields have their way with us.

At least Jalen Hurts is doing his shit to everyone, not just us.

Pauldiercks1 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 1:57:53 PM)

Looking at how this team is playing right now, I feel we are average at best.
We have played and will play some very weak teams, appear to have a very weak division, and got pounded by the one good team we played.
We scraped by a terrible Bears team at home. Our O-line is still getting horribly gashed at times. The pass Rush doesn't seem to be what I expected.
4-1 but who have we really beaten? We looked very good against the Packers. We barely beat a Saints team that was very undermanned. Lions and Bears meh.

I'm still not really sure what the optimism around the Vikings is? The record sure but I'm not seeing it on the field.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2022 2:23:43 PM)

Whoa let’s not go full negative. We have plenty to be happy about. Excellent coaching, elite special teams (don’t let one bad punt erase the prior 4 games). Elite pass catchers, a seemingly adequate O-line, and a few defenders that are flashing. z smith and dantzler.
