I don't think OBJ signing is realistic... he is going to want way more money than Vikes have.

(unless he was desperate for a prove it year to set up next contract)

However, I'm concerned about the number of plays I've seen where nobody is open.

Dolphins/Eagles seem to have little trouble focusing on taking JJ out and Thielen/KJ/Irv can't seem to get separation.

Seems like refs are letting secondary play more physical this year.

Dallas/Bills will tell us everything.

My guess is offense is going to have to score a lot to win those games.

Oh ... they're open alright.

The problem is watching our opponent's lonely wrs wandering aimlessly through a barren wasteland with their butterfly nets

then ... watching our wrs against regular coverage.

1st 3rd of the year MVP to KOC.

The flipped record is the result in good planning, attention to detail, and culture.

He can put himself in contention for COY the next leg here if we can have respectable outings against Dallas and Buffalo and split those games...while continuing to win like we have.

I'm really interested in what KOC focuses on in the getting better dept. We're doing so well in a lot of the little things that matter...

Not sure who's worked bigger magic to this point, KOC or Daboll.

It sounds to me like people are more surprised by the NYGs.

I also am really looking forward to the improvement angle. The attention to detail and planning seem to be top-notch through this phase ... I don't even know how much of 5-1 is momentum which is usually the most obvious factor ...

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/19/2022 8:13:28 PM)

I would be for an OBJ signing, if I thought the defense was really good, and that the signing would make them a contender.

I am just not sure on the defense yet, they haven't been tested enough.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/19/2022 8:50:06 PM)

Our rushing defense has improved a bit..

If 4.3 ypa is an improvement..

Passing defense is horrible..
7.9 ypa
A full yard worse than last year..

But scorning Defense is 19.7 ppg

Vs 2021 .. 25.2
Lots of things to clean up..

Wide open long throws, into soft shell coverage..

You just have to nudge the idea forward, in some way, don't you? Around any realistic chance or obstacle ... just to say it out loud in your mind.

Imagine KC and Thielen getting injured ... and Mullens throwing a TD to newly signed OBJ for a Super Bowl! The religious ecstasy!

ryan wright - nfl special teams player of the week...10 punts, 73-yard punt....

for the year:
17 punts inside the 20 -- 1st
0 (zero) punts for a touchback -- 1st

I wonder if any punter has ever led the league in both those categories for an entire season? The 2 categories seem that they each would preclude the other to some extent.

We have the $$$ as Kwesi can always get someone to renegotiate by digging deeper into his dead cap turd pile.

.
the only player that is not upside-down in terms of dead cap is kendricks, and there's about $7mm there....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 1:46:41 AM)

Tom, that was the issue being discussed.

And Yes, I like to look forward.

for some reason, many of the vikings are looking slow to me...I'm not sure if it's me, or them...we have so many players that are right at their experaion date....

theilen looks slow, and a bit bloated...i don't know if this team as a year two of running in back - i don't think that osborn can play wr #2 at the level we'll need...we're going to need too many solid replacement players...i hope that we've got enough in the tank, end of year, to compete this season....

i know what you mean, being that a touchback is considered failure....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 5:12:16 AM)

It means the Vikings are punting too often deep, from their own side of the field 😂

Miami heat and grass field made it look that way.

It is about 4-5 weeks yet for the final 4-5 games of the year...

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 8:44:52 AM)

If KC has an interest in OBJ and the money, he would be stupid to not sign.

Very good chance of another ring.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 9:14:15 AM)

IF OBJ wants a decent chance at a ring, he signs with Minnesota.

IF he wants a REALLY good chance at a ring, he signs with Buffalo or KC.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 9:23:01 AM)

The Chiefs make the most sense for signing OBJ.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 9:53:04 AM)

Cardinals at home for tonight's game so they'll have the proverbial ten days to prep for Minnesota. Good job by the NFL scheduler/software in what has to be an enormously complex endeavor every year. There were times in the past where we played on the road then traveled again to play a team coming off their bye, which was BS.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 10:09:40 AM)

To be clear. I want no part of OBJ even if we have the cash.

That being said. I've read others say "spend it on IOL or D". While I agree that this would help much more, WHO? Name one guy on the market that could make a difference. Suh? [&o]

OBJ gets clicks and that's why he's linked to several teams. It would be stupid as hell for us to take a flyer at this point but it sells so they're (the media) is talking about it.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/20/2022 10:17:14 AM)

Good points, Jeff.

I don't think it'd happen even if they wanted it to but either way I don't think we need to worry about it.

How about: Not everybody, not nobody. An answer commensurate with your question.

There's no way of knowing who is available.

https://nfltraderumors.co/top-2022-nfl-free-agents-list/ has a random meaningless less-than-arbitrary list of people not on teams. (CB Breshaud Breeland at #28!)

Then there's people on teams that may be in conversation for trade / release. Who knows.

The point is addressing a strength or a weakness with limited resources. And bang for your buck.

According to Judd MN ESPN; 2 things stand out to him:

1) his relationship with JJ
2) his relationship with KOC

I think OBJ is fine for a year/partial year as long as the offense is good.

He is like a lot of WR's, just add inconsistent offense and they turn into team cancer.

OBJ, Percy Harvin, Moss, Diggs, and TO are few that come to mind right away.

All those WR are very similar....combination of losing and no targets.

That's right, what you want are tight-lipped go-with-the-flow WRs in an inconsistent offense.

No need to elevate and get all tumorous.

Guess I don't agree with your list [moss diggs].
