We need some better plays to beat the blitz. Too many time they came with pressure and we didn't have an answer. And it is no secret that AZ likes to blitz.

Couldn't agree more. If we don't solve this problem it will become part of the blueprint to beat us. Ideally we would reach the point where we can make a team pay for blitzing us. Right now we just need to find a way to survive it.

Agree. The IOL has all it can handle with simply blocking opposition linemen. Throw in blitzes and forget it. I don't see any magic switches to turn on this year. The hope is Ingram gets better. I question Cleveland's lateral agility in the trenches. As a minimum, throw a mid-round pick towards a center.

There are hot reads and all that, and hopefully that stuff can get better with the (limited) practice during the season.

A mobile QB would help make the D pay, but that's for the QBOTF conversation.

I agree there's no magic switch to give us a quick fix but there's a few things that can help. On one play where Cousins got pressured relatively fast (he had time to throw if he threw right away) we went back and rewatched the play a few times. There was one replay with the camera angle from behind the QB and during the brief moment Kirk had to make a throw you could see the backs of all four pass catchers jerseys. I don't know if this is Kirk not sensing the blitz or bad playcalling or what.

Defense finally played a good game. Lots of pressure and mostly solid tackling all the way around. AZ offense is not bad and they played a bit desperate.

Offense is an issue because Cousins is Cousins. That will be what ultimately kills the 2022 Vikings.

Why bother, your one dimensional schtick is even more transparent than Brad’s. Just stick with ‘Cousins sucks’ and save your breath.

100% agree. The two best teams in the NFC are Philly and San Francisco.........hands down. The Vikings, Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks etc... are a ways back.

Yep, I said it. San Francisco is far better than the Vikings. The pickup of McCaffrey was huge and they are going to get healthy at some point. Elite stars all over the field when healthy.

It is still early but it may be a little too early on the SF call. I watched them against KC. Philly, Buffalo, and KC are in their own class.

I personally see nothing special about either Philly or San Fran. If we had just bothered scoring on a couple of the possessions we got deep in Philly territory we could have won that game. We shot ourselves in both feet that game.

Good win...

Still feels like the Keenum year, where things go our way but we are just too flawed to make us a real contender.

What I find interesting is that Kirk is playing his worst football and we are winning...does that mean we could plug in other QBs and be just as good?

Lots of over paid vets. Could be an overdue blood bath this off-season

The vets looked better after a week off (minus Theilen), but that is my concern is the daily grind slows down the aging legs

YES! Yes yes yes. We're paying for a franchise game-changer and we're getting above-average-to-good on our return.

I'm sure the Eagles view us as nothing special considering they smashed us. I think we have as good a shot as any in the NFC. Curious to see how we fare against Buffalo and Dallas.

I was going to say, getting 6 kinds of dog maneur kicked out of us by a team that is nothing special, isn't a good thing.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 2:21:57 PM)

If they stay healthy I want nothing to do with SF in the playoffs. I watched them yesterday closely. McCaffrey was killing the Rams. That was a huge pickup for them. If he can stay on the field (big if, I know) they will be hard to beat.

It was also a home game for them. What terrible fans in LA.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 2:23:58 PM)

We still need to shore up the IOL. Bradbury literally was used to sack Cousins on one play. Dude threw him right in to Cousins [:-]

Some weak Ol play and a QB that isn't the most mobile is a bad combination.
I will give Kirk props on the TD run though. Didn't see that coming.

That TD run was GLORIOUS!!!

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 4:45:19 PM)

Unless there's a giant hole where it's stupid not to run...I'd just as soon see Cousins not run.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 5:01:23 PM)

I think now it makes sense to bring Rudolph home.

Given his lack of production, the Bucs probably don't know he's even on their team. He could pull a version of Kramer and just switch teams w/o management even knowing.

Consider the source. And his reasoning... why, if we had just scored more we could have won! Logic!

It's like the post saying if only Irv Smith had played like Kelse or Cousins like Mahommes, we could have won! I think that was from the tin-foil hat guy.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 5:32:51 PM)

The Baltimore Ravens filled the biggest void in the middle of their defense with the NFL's leading tackler.

The Ravens acquired Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith on Monday, a team source confirmed, completing the deal a day before the NFL trade deadline. A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Ravens are sending the Bears a second- and a fifth-round pick in 2023 for Smith, who tops the NFL with 83 tackles this season.

As part of the trade, the Ravens also sent linebacker A.J. Klein to Chicago, a source told Schefter.

Smith was owed $5.408 million for the rest of the season. As part of the trade agreement, the Bears are paying Smith $4.833 million while the Ravens are paying him the league-minimum $575,000 for the rest of the season, sources told Schefter.

#Vikings Week 8 offense top 5 PFF grades (min. 15 snaps):
1. Darrisaw 91.7
2. Mattison 81.6
3. Cleveland 79.5
4. Jefferson 77.0
5. Cook 70.3

Bottom 3
3. Mundt 59.8
2. Osborn 55.2
1. Ingram 41.7

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 6:26:03 PM)

Dogging Mundt when he had some great blocks and scored.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 6:35:04 PM)

Maybe he cleans up some stuff he'll get to hang out with the big boys some day

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 11:13:11 PM)

I might not be a fan of the player (so far) but props to Cine for champing out his injury after a month. I was in a brace for 6 weeks after my alignment surgery and here he is a month out from fracturing his fib/tlb and dislocating his ankle.. walking around like it was a but a scratch.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/31/2022 11:37:18 PM)

I was not impressed with Buffalo's playcalling against GB, it seemed like their success was more Allen's abilities, a great catch by Diggs where he was covered, great running by their RB.

With the Vikings, I am impressed by the playcalling, and the way Kirk is less likely to make mistakes.

With the Vikings defense, I am not sure I like the schemes (will get some good tests coming up), and feel the success has more to do with great plays by the players, especially Z and PP in the last game.

Cleveland has quietly become pff's #12 rated guard with a grade of 74.0....

we could have that on the right side with corrbett #11 or james daniels #15....

claypool and daniels from Pittsburgh for a 3rd rounder - make it happen kwesi....

Sure, ok. Kwesi go ahead and put the little wings on and swing about that magic wand.

We have the the worst 2022 cap situation in the nfl. In 2023, its the worst in the universe.

So, to begin with, we're not going to 'get' anybody not willing to play for rubber checks, counterfeit monopoly money or S&H Green Stamps.

True, you say, but we can backload deals and sell off future assets like draft picks ..

We don't need those. We had a horrible draft based within a very short timeframe ... disastrous. Let's trade some of that and see if we can score another Reagor or Blacklock grand prize for the OL.

Not that I have a clue what's going on. With Kwesi's inscrutable moneyballed approach, I could see him trading for Dozier or resigning Samia, who would then play 10 times worse than before but somehow improve the IOL overall.

It doesn't make any sense but its working.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 7:28:18 AM)

We're doing great. We don't have $. We have limited draft capital.

I say a smart GM stands pat.
