Right now the Vikings are in line to pick 30th. The Lions are in line to pick first. Their second round pick is slated to be #61 overall. The Lions' 4th round pick is slated to be #102 overall.

The value difference between the two picks is equal to the last pick of the 6th round

No it isn't.

Would you be happy to get him late in the 2nd round of the draft?

I would.

he doesn't come with a 4-year rookie deal....

But he is proven, vs a crap shoot.

So Spielman traded for a TE that didn't play and gave up a 4th?

Kwesi trades for a starter and gives up 6th value....

Stop with the 6th value thing. It's middle-ish 3rd.

Maybe verify before you post. A 6th delta doesn't even sound like it's in the ballpark.

for sure, one can value chart kwesi's dealings with the lions, but they don't pass the reasonable man eye/smell test....

i believe that that $9.4mm in 2023 is the 5th year option, not the franchise tag...he was selected #8 overall in 2019....

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:06:24 PM)

I didn't realize Irv "Raonall" Smith was out for a few weeks - again.

Now I love the trade.

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Vikings’ TE Irv Smith Jr. suffered a high ankle-sprain on Sunday vs. Cardinals and is expected to miss multiple weeks. So Minnesota now lands TE T.J. Hockenson.

Why did you have to edit to include me? You posted about the 6th twice, and I responded once to each. You slow down.

No biggee, just getting the proper/rough value out there. Over the two years, if he produces it will likely be about two 3rds. I'm ok with that, but the other piece is his upcoming contract.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:09:34 PM)

After listening to everybody’s draft swapping explanations, I guess its not as outlandish as I first thought.

Obviously TE is a need though not our most severe with Mundt blossoming right before our eyes into a 4th stringer.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:10:19 PM)

Finally having a real TE is a great thing!

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:10:20 PM)

The biggest part is the cap. The couldn't have found a better scenario cap wise.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:11:31 PM)

That is called, pushing all your chips in.

Hard to imagine how good this offense could be with TE of All Pro caliper.

Happy, but leery given all the troubles TE's of late.

In a very quick look, it appears 9.4 is the current transition tag value, and ~ 11 for the franchise tag.

But yeah, he might be owed that next year or the number changes with an extension.

hopefully, houston picks up most of his 2023 salary....

Kid is only 25 years-old. An extension would be outstanding.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:23:24 PM)

Hockenson, 25, has 26 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns in seven games this season. With the trade, he goes from last place in the NFC North with the Lions (1-6) to first place with the Vikings (6-1).

He fills an immediate need for the Vikings, as tight end Irv Smith Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Vikings entered the season with questions about their depth at tight end after allowing 2021 starter Tyler Conklin to sign with the New York Jets in free agency. Smith missed the entire 2021 season because of a right knee injury and then most of training camp because of a thumb injury. He has played in all seven regular-season games but hasn't started any of them while sharing snaps with free agent acquisition Johnny Mundt.

This is the second major in-division trade between the Vikings and Lions this year. On Day 1 of the draft, the Lions acquired the No. 12 pick from the Vikings and used it to select receiver Jameson Williams.

Hockenson has 186 receptions for 2,058 yards and 15 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Lions. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2020, when he set career highs in receptions (67), yards (723) and touchdowns (6).

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34924927/sources-lions-trade-te-tj-hockenson-rival-vikings

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/1/2022 12:24:30 PM)

The No. 8 overall pick in 2019 out of Iowa, Hockenson entered the NFL boasting as an athletic pass-catcher with blocking skills. In Detroit, the tight end has been solid but hasn't blown the doors off.

In 47 games, Hockenson has generated 2,068 yards and 15 touchdowns.

This offseason, the Lions planned to get Hockenson more involved in the offense with new offensive coordinator Ben Johnson -- the former TEs coach -- taking over the play-calling. While there have been flashes, including an eight-catch, 179-yard, two-TD day in Week 4 against Seattle, it's been another up-and-down campaign for Hockenson. The 25-year-old TE has earned 395 yards and three TDs in seven contests.

Hockenson is in the fourth year of his rookie deal. The Lions picked up his $9.4 million fifth-year option putting him under contract through 2023. The TE is eligible for an extension.

Hockenson will move to Minnesota as part of Kevin O'Connell's offense and should pair well alongside Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. As a playmaker in space, Hock should fit perfectly into the Vikings' new offense, making it more explosive. Minnesota saw Irv Smith suffer a reported high ankle sprain on Sunday that could knock him out for a spell.

Dan Schneier
@DanSchneierNFL
T.J. Hockenson is one of the only two-way TEs in the NFL basically.
Is he elite at blocking or receiving? Probably not, but the #Lions barely got anything back for him. They get a 2 and 3, but also send back two 4s and the #Vikings picks will be later in each round.
Weird trade.

Vikings 2023 Draft Picks
1st
3rd
4th (Detroit's.. Likely top-3 pick)
5th
6th
(Projected 2 additional sixths in comp picks)
Not as bad as it feels after Hockenson trade honestly

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Comp update: Bears traded a second-round pick for WR Chase Claypool, per source.

Defense finally played a good game. Lots of pressure and mostly solid tackling all the way around. AZ offense is not bad and they played a bit desperate.

Offense is an issue because Cousins is Cousins. That will be what ultimately kills the 2022 Vikings.

100% agree. The two best teams in the NFC are Philly and San Francisco.........hands down. The Vikings, Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks etc... are a ways back.

Yep, I said it. San Francisco is far better than the Vikings. The pickup of McCaffrey was huge and they are going to get healthy at some point. Elite stars all over the field when healthy.

It is still early but it may be a little too early on the SF call. I watched them against KC. Philly, Buffalo, and KC are in their own class.

I personally see nothing special about either Philly or San Fran. If we had just bothered scoring on a couple of the possessions we got deep in Philly territory we could have won that game. We shot ourselves in both feet that game.

I'm sure the Eagles view us as nothing special considering they smashed us. I think we have as good a shot as any in the NFC. Curious to see how we fare against Buffalo and Dallas.

I don't see Dallas as anything special either. Buffalo is just about without a doubt the best team in the NFL. Playing at their place I only give us a 1 in 4 chance of winning that game. Dallas I put our chances at 2-1.

Yeah I just read that in a post above. Good that he's not just a 10 game rental (doubt we would have made the trade if it was only that).
