Brad is running the risk of making Phil win an argument. [:-]

Either that, or you show zero ability to follow along with the actual argument and easily get sidetracked by their change of direction.

Nope, not it.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/27/2023 10:46:36 AM)

Further the discussion on Arreaz.
Scouts have long graded position players on five tools that are central to success in the game: hitting, hitting for power, running, fielding and throwing.

To call Arreaz a two tool player maybe a stretch....

The Twins are currently dead last in stolen bases, 21st in batting average, 19th in errors committed and have one outfield assist for the year. By that metric, it seems like they have a lot of guys in the lineup with zero tools.

Rocco just refuses to steal bases. Taylor has been on quite a bit and hardly any attempts.

Rockhead refuses to to see what other teams see. The pitch clock has opened the door on the running game for any team he doesn't manage.

No offense issues but the weather is 50s not 30s

8 runs tonight already 7 last night

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/28/2023 7:49:15 PM)

Lopez not on his game tonight, but Twins offense secures the win.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/29/2023 8:19:32 AM)

Pablo Lopez:

2-2 with a 4.00 ERA.

Sounds about normal for his career. His ERA has gone up every start since opening day.

Meanwhile, Arraez raised his average to .427 yesterday. He leads the NL in batting by 57 points.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/4/2023 8:35:15 AM)

Glad to see the site up and running again.

Brad H -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/4/2023 8:47:18 AM)

Just an FYI, Pablo Lopez has a 7.31 ERA in his past three starts.

To reference a ridiculous comparison made by Phil last week, does that make him the Jack Morris, Kevin Tapani or Scott Erickson of this team?

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/4/2023 9:02:01 AM)

Following his first save since 2021, Middleton talked about how much he relished that last swing by Correa, who played for the Astros at the time of the scandal.“I knew I was going to face Correa, and I don’t like him. So it was kind of cool,” he said. “I like that. I enjoyed that a lot. ... I mean, he’s a cheater.”

But the Twins won at least one of those games...by your metrics that means he's good. right?

Actually the comparison is Jack Morris to Sonny Gray; if you remember correctly. If your memory is a little remiss you did say 91 wasn't built on pitching either....[:-]

Twins win!

Nice bullpen perforce. Pagan is so good!

I was driving home and there was a voice on the postgame show with Provus, Pagan LOL. Wonder how many times that will happen this year.

Brad,
The Twins won the season series with NY for the first time in 21 years.....what do you think the reason is? (Hint Hint MN is 4th in ERA as a staff--Sonny is leading the AL and Joe is 13th).

I will repeat this again, Sonny's start to 2023 is eerily similar to what the 36 year old Jack Morris did in 1991. Erickson was great in the first half of 1991 but his game was ground ball outs more than Strikeouts..

If you look at Jack he was about 6-7 SO/9; Sonny is at 10.5 currently...[:-]

The Twins are off to a solid start. Sonny has had a great start. I'm happy about both. Lets leave it at that.

It was a pretty enlightening interview. He's tough on bunters.

David Levine -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/5/2023 6:46:44 PM)

Phil Miller:

A busy Friday. Twins have:

— called up OF/1B Alex Kirilloff from St. Paul;
— added RHP Dereck Rodriguez from St. Paul;
— placed LHP Caleb Thielbar on 15-day injured list (oblique);
— moved RHP Tyler Mahle to 60-day injured list.
— optioned OF Trevor Larnach, whose 19 RBIs lead the team, to St. Paul.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (5/5/2023 8:36:31 PM)

3 hits, but we win!
Ober was outstanding!

Ha, for those yearning for the era of Kirilloff and Larnach to begin, sorry, it’s Kirilloff OR Larnach

Larnach can't hit a balloon right now. He struck out something like his last 7 AB in a row. Still getting eaten up by breaking pitches, which of course means that those are the only pitches he is going to see.

I'm curious to see what role Kirilloff plays. Will they put him in the field or DH him and start giving Buxton some games in CF?

I don't think they can keep Ober out of the rotation when Maeda gets back. The only question is whether Ober can show some durability.

I agree.
I also feel the same way about Kirilloff. Our offense definitely needs a jolt.
