CSW improved by letting Jose Abreu go to the Astros?

CSW can improve just by having guys healthy.

Abreu was a big loss but they already had Vaughn to fill the role.

Their rotation is pretty good.

Injuries and underachievment were their biggest issues the past couple of years. New manager and healthy team could mean a much better season ahead.

We shall see.

As long as they keep Pagan from pitching in meaningful situations I like our chances of being competitive. Getting rid of the unbalanced schedule will likely hurt us, but I'm looking forward to watching baseball again.

At the beginning of the Viking's season I made an uncharacteristic (for me) rosy prediction. I think I said 12 wins. Something like that. I just believed in the new breath of life the staff provided.

I'm going to make a similar prediction now. I think the Twins will easily run away with the Central Division. 90+ wins. They are deeper and better assembled than they have been in a while, at least since the Bomba squad. And the division hasn't improved.

Of course once they reach the playoffs, it's anyone's guess if they can break the streak.

Wow, this is already the 12th year in the Twins radio booth for Cory Provus.

Lopez 1-2-3 1st. Front runner for Cy Young at the moment.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 3:41:08 PM)

Two perfect innings. Arraez, pffft, who needs him?

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 3:44:28 PM)

Our pitching staff is on pace for a 0.00 ERA this season.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 4:22:45 PM)

In all seriousness though I think the twins did just fine on that trade. I like Arraez a lot but there just wasn’t a fit for him here and they got good return for him.

Buxton triple!

Twins score!

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 4:52:46 PM)

Oh no, Lopez got a strikeout in the 6th. Get him out of there, Rocco!

Robbie Grossman had a huge HR today.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 5:09:20 PM)

I’m happy for him

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 5:14:36 PM)

What? Lopez is back in again. Is this a new rule change?

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 5:49:58 PM)

I heard Trump arrested. Twins win. Good day.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 5:51:05 PM)

Buxton damn near tripped on his helmet when it fell off rounding 2nd. That would have been disastrous.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (3/30/2023 6:14:32 PM)

Buxton is looking beefy. But not in a bad way.

That would have been the most Buxtonesque opener ever.

Former Stingers pitcher Gus Varland makes MLB Debut with the Brewers

One more name was recently added to the list of Willmar Stingers to play in Major League Baseball after right-handed pitcher Gus Varland made his debut with the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday on Opening Day 2023. Varland is the 11th Stinger to make their MLB debut in the franchise's fourteen seasons.
.
In a 4-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs, Varland entered the game in the seventh inning and struck out Miles Mastrobuoni in his first batter faced on his way to a shutout inning.

Varland forced a bases-loaded ground-out against Trey Mancini to end the inning.

The 26-year old played for the Stingers in the summer of 2017 helping the team to one of their best seasons in franchise history with a 41-31 regular season record.

Varland played a big role in the Stingers’ rotation that season leading the team with 49 strikeouts while also posting a 1.42 ERA and a 6-1 record in his 13 appearances.

The Maplewood, Minnesota native was one of three pitchers on the 2017 Stingers team who eventually wore the Major Leaguers uniform. His brother, Louie made his debut with the Minnesota Twins last season as well as Nick Mears who debuted for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2020.

Varland will look to continue to play a part in a Brewers bullpen looking to help the team build off an 86-win season in 2022.

What's the over/under before he is hurt? I set it at 27 games.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/2/2023 3:03:51 PM)

Gallo is flexing his muscles today. A double and two HR puts the Twins up 6-1. Good outing by Ryan today. He becomes the first Twins pitcher to complete 6 innings this year. It's really a sad statement that 6 innings by a Twins starter is noteworthy.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Twins 2023 Season and Game Day Thread (4/2/2023 5:27:23 PM)

3-0.
So good so far.
