This team is getting it's ass kicked on both lines and until that issue is resolved it doesn't really matter who we have at QB or WR.
Time to completely rebuild both lines and add skill players from there. If we can somehow keep JJ happy while that is happening great, if not make sure we get max value for him before he walks as a free agent.
As for Kirk, if we can't afford him and JJ I prefer to keep JJ and use a plug and play QB like Denny did almost every year.

I think you add Akeem Hicks and maybe another OG to give us a chance....short term no matter what.

yes...do this kwesi....

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/19/2023 3:08:23 PM)

So do we miss:
Theilen
Cook
Kendricks
Patrick Peterson

We may have cut all 4 a year too late.

Tomlinson hasn't done much either.

Probably the only guy we will miss is Zed.

By dragging his feet JJ is now going to be more expensive enlight of the Bosa 34ml avv deal.
Kwesi should have extended JJ the minute he became eligible for one.
Losing faith real fast in Kwesi.

He is under contract this year and next plus we could franchise him.

For the first, seven or eight games until he suffers his usual mid-season injury.

Jake Long.

He had never really recovered from back-to-back ACL tears.

Not sure you are understanding me correctly. The market increases with each high end player that signs a contract. Before Bosa signed his, the highest paid non qb was Tyrek Hill at 30ml. Had Kwesi extended JJ right away he probably could have locked him in at 31ml avv. By waiting the high water mark is now 35 avv. If he waits like you suggest, it will most likely be even higher. Micah Parsons is probably the next big fish.

Rumor is that Kwesi wants a longer contract; JJ wants a shorter one so he can get another big one at 27-29....so he is going to get the money regardless as he was very young his first year.

AVV is not a big deal; most of the time it is inflated.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/20/2023 11:08:28 AM)

Had Kwesi extended JJ right away he probably could have locked him in at 31ml avv.

We didn't have the cap room to lock him up earlier. Well, it technically could have been done by backending the deal where his cap numbers from say 2024 on would be in the $40+ million range. Ugh. Yes his market value, like the value of many others, has and will increase yearly or whenever. But paying him earlier probably would have meant more overall cap/money compared to waiting and paying a higher AAV.

Including Darrisaw and excluding Badbury, Vikes carrying eight OL. A few spot checks via Ourlads through the 2022 season shows 9-10 has been the norm for this regime.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/20/2023 12:55:37 PM)

Prior to the start of the season word was that Risner was demanding $8 Million and a guaranteed starting spot. Looks like the reason we got it done now is Risner decided that $4 Million was better than $0 Million.

This is news to me, I guess I assumed he was a "real" writer. I used to see this guy on Twitter but for some reason, and I'm sure quoted him once or twice, and for reasons I don't even remember, I blocked him.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/20/2023 5:29:39 PM)

LOL, a link to an Inside the Vikings article that used the word 'could' at least a half dozen times... including the first word of the article. Not even Marty went that far with disclaimers!

No doubt Phil thinks 'rumor' has more cred than 'Totally made up speculation by a blogger', but yes it is technically a rumor.... while presented to add weight to JJ's negotiations.

Semantics? He is at least real as opposed to say a fabricated twitter handle designed to look like one of the ESPN dudes who break news.

But clearly, per his article (from June by the way) he has zero knowledge of what Kwesi or JJ's camp want (or if he knew he didn't want to say, but IMO that is not likely).

And almost assuredly, if some insider spills the beans too early then they will not be an insider anymore.

Personally, a rumor suggests there could be at least an inkling of a whisper, an inference, or perhaps a small thing one of the entities provides unofficially. Clearly, the article did not fit any of that criteria. But my definition of rumor doesn't match the official definition.

Until they fix the line, it won’t matter. Riesner might help but they still have a long ways to go.

Great. I hope they cut Ty Chandler. Ty is a smooth-running tease of a RB much like DJ Dozier was. Looks good in the open field but unable to do anything else, albeit just 4 carries and 0 yards this season and 6 for 20 last season. Akers is a failure this year but he hasn't always been. Can he block lol?!?!

Keep Gaskin, cut Chandler.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/20/2023 6:43:31 PM)

The Vikings’ latest acquisition Dalton Risner gave his first interview with reporters in the locker room on Wednesday. It was an interesting and surprisingly candid interview from Risner, who talked about why he remained a free agent so long, his role, and other things. The interview is available here:

A couple takeaways:

1) It seems unlikely that he’ll play on Sunday.

2) He sort of admitted the reason he remained on the market was a difference in what he wanted to be paid and what teams were willing to offer him.

3) He also mentioned that he was planning to meet with another team- he didn’t say which team- the next day to sign a contract, but the Vikings beat the other team to the punch.

Risner has played left guard since entering the league with the Broncos, but also played right tackle and center in college. He worked together with Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper for three years in Denver, so he is familiar with his new position coach. Risner also mentioned that there is some carryover in terminology from the Denver system, so hopefully that will help him get up to speed with the playbook quickly.

He was pretty good last year...

Akers was the Rams’ second-round pick out of Florida State in the 2023 NFL Draft, which means he’s currently in the final year of his rookie contract. In 2022, he started nine games for the Rams and ran for 786 yards and nine touchdowns on 188 carries. This year, he had 29 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in the Rams’ season-opening win over the Seattle Seahawks but was inactive for their Week 2 contest.
