What about Ted Braun? Joseph Brauner? Robert Smythe? Carl Eeler?

I get it though. The "Tarkington" is the one that always bothered me.

Justin jefferdaughter?

“The NFL will humble you every step of the way,” said defensive end Nick Bosa, the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year who has only 2½ sacks after 18½ sacks last season. Lots of stonewalling this year.

The 49ers fell to 0-36 under Shanahan when trailing by eight or more points in the fourth quarter, including playoff games. Ouch.

Was going to mention, uhhh, Tark.

I never could get Everett Lindsay straight, called him Lindsey Everitt.

ny times...vikings jump up 10 spots in rankings....

16. Minnesota Vikings (3-4)
(Last week: 26)

Monday: Beat San Francisco 49ers 22-17

One question: Who designs the Vikings’ turnover celebrations?

Whoever it is should get a raise. Minnesota forced three turnovers Monday night against the 49ers but got to do four celebrations because one was called back when Brock Purdy was ruled down by contact. On the first, the Vikings defenders did a limbo line using 198-pound cornerback Akayleb Evans as the limbo pole. On the second, the defenders all sat in a circle in the end zone and played duck, duck, goose. On the third one, Camryn Bynum and teammates did the worm in the end zone. On the fourth, Bynum and friends celebrated finishing off the upset.

Up next: at Green Bay Packers, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

How much to resign Daniel Hunter now?

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 8:18:04 AM)

You would think GB at Lambeau would be letdown proof.

We’ll see how this team responds. Last year we faced our big legitimacy test against the Bills then got summarily executed by the Cowboys.

We are a different team this year, for sure. Could we have played the 49ers better with JJ? It would have changed the dynamic on both sides of the ball. Not sure we could have squeezed more out of this group.

Still not sure how good or bad we are but good to see us raise the ceiling on what we’re capable of.

Vikings are not that good yet it sounds like they have no cap space.

no idea how other teams do it that seem loaded with talent everywhere. I guess that's why you have to draft well.

Looking down the road, there is no way the Vikings can pay Jefferson and Addison (if he continues to look as good as he does currently). Maybe you trade one at some point.

If the Vikings have a mental "let down" against the Packers that tells me the players are mentally weak. It's not like that have a gaudy record and are coasting at the top of the division.

By the time Addison's rookie contract is up:

Kurt, Hunter and Hockenson contract's will be off the books while still having to pay Darrisaw.

We can keep the Jefferson/Addison duo together if we plan ahead.

Random Thoughts

Kirk Cousins is likely to be extended by the Vikings. The Vikings will draft a QB, but it might not be in the first round depending on who is there at their first pick.
Some display of excellent coaching in the SF game. You see improvement and "lessons learned" on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. On the Defensive side, using zone and more "heavy pass protection" in addition to blitzing. Also, using three safety lineups. On the offensive side, better and quicker playcalls. Really were able to anticipate SF blitzes with excellent counter calls. Still need to continue to improve through the season to be a serious playoff contender.
Addison is a stud. It is hard to draft a stud and Kwesi has done that with Addison.
Need to keep Risner at left guard. Much better pass blocker than Cleveland.
Need to demonstrate that this game is not a fluke by winning on the road at GB and Atlanta--not easy tasks.
I would make Powell number 3 receiver. Addison of course number 2 now.
Need to give more reps to Rbs Chandler and McBride and see what we have with these youngsters. Mattison is not a primary RB option.
I was surprised that SF did not try to run more. The Packers are likely to do more running with Jones and the Vikings defense needs to demonstrate it can stop the run.

Cousins will not be extended and the Vikings will draft a QB with their first pick.

Why is winning in GB and Atlanta not easy?

This Vikings team will make winning anywhere against anyone "not" easy.

Oh joy...by winning last night they fell six spots in the draft.

Who is going to QB this team in 2024 and beyond? Does anyone other than me root for the MN teams to bottom out from time to time to get some big time talent? People freak out when the Vikings get ripped off in a trade (uh, they should have received an additional fourth round pick in that trade according to the draft chart) but they fail to understand that by winning games in a worthless season they will miss out on the top 3-4 QB's in the class.

Ok, so there really are people who took no joy in that win.

I mean have fun with that and all. Whatever relevance that win has, if any, remains to be seen but I’ll say straight up - it was damn good for my soul. My head space. We control nothing. How we deal with the ups and downs is up to each of us. I handled the downs rather poorly and perhaps I’m fooling myself now but that team last night can hang with anyone. I’d rather keep winning draft stock be damned.

I would like to say that despite the record and how criminally pathetic our team has looked at times this year. We HAVE hanged with every team we've played. We've been in every game. We had a chance to win, every game. They just needed to eliminate the mistakes, especially the turnovers. For the most part they did that this game.

Now we look ahead and the rest of the schedule looks a bit easier. but the Vikings proved on Monday that a 7 point Dog can beat you if you aren't playing your best game. So we have to keep playing our best games....but if we do....we can win most of our remaining games and make a lot of noise in the playoffs.

Would I like us to have a shot at one of the top QBs in next year's draft? Yes. But I would much rather keep winning now.

Why are you worried about Addison at this point? He's on his rookie deal for 5 years, if you pick up the option.

Viking are going to win too many games for a top draft pick, going to need to trade assets to move up.

If the Vikings are not going to use Kwesi's supreme intelligence and think outside the box I hope Kirk is willing to take $20 million a year. What other teams would pay Kirk more than that next season?

We'll start hearing pay the man long before it's time to pick up the option

Simple question(s):
Why worry about next draft if we go on a winning streak and make the playoffs?
Why are you jockeying for position now when there are plenty of QBs that we can get w/o moving up/draft two?
Don't use draft capital to move up and draft two.

Add in O'Neill. Paying him $20 million a year in the outyears is as a sure thing as Leroy Hoard getting you 3 yards.

You want to pay $10 million, he'll sign for $20 million.
You want to pay him $30 million, he'll sign for $20 million.

Actually right now he'll be at $23 mill next year, then $26, then $23. His cap increased after all that renegotiating in order to pay half of Davenport's salary, with the other half buried in a void year.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 9:40:17 AM)

Would easily trade a 9-8 season where we get help to back into the playoffs then get squashed as a one and done by the likes of Seattle then pick 18th... for the #1 overall pick. Since the #1 is assuredly out of reach, will just have to see how things go.

Personally, I think it's a losers strategy/mentality to get excited about a weak schedule. Then comes the one and done and people are going "Huh, imagine that. We were favored and at home. Thought we were good but it was all a mirage! F***** Wilf!"

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 9:51:35 AM)

Just to strengthen what's been said about the improved OLine. NFL Live broke down how they shut Bosa out and it was not just good play, it was a really good strategy (according to them).

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 9:53:36 AM)

I would use caution there on the praise of KAM. It's been reported in several outlets that KOC was begging for him to "just pick him" and not trade down. I still am very skeptical of KAM's judgement. A LOT of misses out there.

The weak schedule was last years (we have the 6th hardest this year). KC, SF, Philly, and TB were all playoff teams last year. The team actually may be better this year just like the team wasn't as good as its record last year; which is the main reason to want to be in the playoffs. Could the SF win equal continued improvement each week? Can we get a running game? Can Ingram, Booth, Evans improve and make the 2022 draft not look quite as horrible? Can the Defense keep improving?

Tune into the same bat channel next week to find out.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 10:01:19 AM)

Apparently this happened before the game Monday:

Purple FTW! Podcast
@PurpleForTheWin
Anonymous 49ers player on Jordan Addison:

“He walked in our locker room & walked right by me. And I’m like, what the hell is he coming in our locker room for?

And he walked by me & he tapped Charvarius Ward on the leg, and said, ‘Lace ’em up, it’s gonna be a long f–-king game.”

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 10:44:31 AM)

Still a lot of concern about moving up in the draft next year as a way of improving future years around here.

I think how you root for a team has changed a lot in recent years. I'm afraid I'll get ridiculed for expressing hope for making the playoffs and winning a game, God forbid, two. If we make the playoffs why would anyone think "one and done" is automatic other than growing up with the MN disappointments to date?

There's pretty much a concession by all that we can play with anyone. If we claw back into this thing we will have done something not many teams have done. That's gotta be worth a little hope.

Id like to think we have a team and coaching staff that has a decent shot at getting better, one could hope a lot better. <shrug> Seriously, what if our OL is for real? I know too much to hope for ...

hope hope hope hope - I know, enough all ready

- Pretty cool seeing TX and AZ in the WS

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 11:20:20 AM)

One and done is based on the team's performance to date: one quality win. That does not indicate we can play with anyone. Final scores don't necessarily reflect how close or one-sided a game really was. Like Philly being up 27-7 and running it down our throats, or the 2-4 Chargers passing for close to 500 yards. Hell, hopeless Chi with some QB who could barely find his helmet was set for a win until the QB threw a pick to some guy in the stands.

And having a bunch of upcoming cupcakes won't provide useful info unless we dominate those teams. We'll see if Det can rebound from last weeks embarrassing annihilation. If they get back on track, coupled with the Bengals and division rival GB, that last month may answer a lot of questions. Until then, I'd be embarrassed to beat my chest and say the Vikings can play with anyone.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/25/2023 11:24:53 AM)

I also don't think allowing 44% of NFL teams to play in the playoffs is good for the sport, but it's a moneymaker that lines the owner's pockets and keeps fans excited while their mediocre teams are still in the hunt.

I never liked the line-by-line replies to posts yet here I present one:

Still a lot of concern about moving up in the draft next year as a way of improving future years around here.

There should be a lot of concern. It's risky and might not work. It's also necessary if you want a shot at a true franchise QB capable of winning a/some Super Bowl(s)

If we make the playoffs why would anyone think "one and done" is automatic other than growing up with the MN disappointments to date?

There's an established history of "one and done" and we still have most of the same major players or comparable substitutes.

There's pretty much a concession by all that we can play with anyone.

There is most definitley NOT a concession or consensus by all that we can play with anyone. We did it once this season so far.

If we claw back into this thing we will have done something not many teams have done. That's gotta be worth a little hope.

There's 17 games now and more teams make the playoffs than in the past. It will only be remarkable if we clinch playoffs before week 18 and aren't one of the "extra" playoff teams.

Id like to think we have a team and coaching staff that has a decent shot at getting better, one could hope a lot better

I think the coaching staff will improve because they're so new. Young players will improve. Vets are who they are at this point although that wristband might have popped Kirk's play up considerably. Will he still panic when the season is on the line? Probably.

Seriously, what if our OL is for real?

Our O-line is outstanding. They are very much for real. They have been all season.

hope hope hope hope - I know, enough all ready

Who's stopping you? You are free to view the team in any way you wish. Everyone else it too though.
