He hired Kevin O'Connell, that coach had these guys believing they were not out of the game, they bought in and never gave up and kept playing. Made a big mistake in hiring Ed Donatell - his don't bother defending the middle of the field defense which worked in a bygone era when people didn't go over the middle for fear of getting destroyed cost us in the end. Drafting is a tough thing to evaluate after just one season. Addison this year and no QB has be a bit down, but I reserve judgement on this. Last year Booth and Cine were both hurt, Akayleb Evans contributed some before being hurt himself. We will see what the last two drafts will give us more this year. Getting rid of dead weight and fading stars to shed some salary cap issues and cut bait with declining players was a good move imho. We will likely lose production, but Mattison is no slouch and even though he doesn't have the breakaway speed of Cook he's got a bit of doen't go down easy too... I think Brian Flores as DC is going to pay huge dividends. My personal jury is still out on Kwesi....so I need more time. by the end of this year he may appear inept or like a genius Some people will probably only see the inept, and stubbornly argue it Some people will probably only see the genius, and stubbornly argue it The real test comes when it is time to deal with the QB situation. And that is coming soon.

The bottom line is, every sport is based on winning and losing. And winning and losing in the sport of football is NOT decided by individual plays or games, its decided on a seasonal basis with one unit or season = regular season, the playoffs and the SB. Not only am I not sorry for the arrogant and condescending tone but I'll continue ... there are over-optimistic cheer squads and over-pessimistic doom and gloomers. There are the 'wait and see' procrastinators. And then, God bless us, the ping-pongers with no control or predisposition for anything that get bounced in every direction by what's happening. And all the shades in between. The doomers are what they are, trolls. Cheerios are one-dimensional like trolls but they dress like Addison in the draft-room and eat purple lava lamp goo on their french toast. Unlike sourpuss trolls, cheerios are actually BIG fans of the team but otherwise, they're quite similar, picking and choosing from what’s available to stay in their comfort zones. You can choose to stoke your compulsive optimism by reminiscing over and over the positive stats, individual plays or games, or human potential (players, coaches, executives) from the previous season. Ping-Pongers not so much. That doesn't mean they didn't enjoy the highs from the previous season less than you. Poor rumpled tattered hobo ping-pongers don't have that happy place to retreat to while KC throws short to end the season. And we can't forget it either. We actually do enjoy what's happening as we go along - greatly - but we are also unable to ignore or dismiss the only real measuring stick by which all franchises are measured each season: distance to winning a SB.

Mahomes: "Wins every year." Nope. In the last six years, his record was better than .500 just three times. And Cousins' teams have won at least 10 games just twice over 11 years. Mahomes: "Puts up great stats." Yeah, Stat-boy does at that. Pretty much back-handed compliments, and the standard cliché reply as he was probably asked what he thought of his fellow QBs in the mini-series. What Mahomes did NOT say: "He's a winner." "He elevates his teams." "He's best in the big games and prime time." "Look at those deep playoff runs."

Even if he had multiple coordinates (I don’t remember exactly, that part) his head coach was Jay Gruden. A lousy head coach but a really good offensive coach. AKA, pretty much the same system.

His first 2 years in SF he had Kyle Shanahan as his OC. His next 3 season he had Sean McVay (who was already coaching in Washington since before Kirk was drafted). His final year he had Matt Cavanaugh, but even he had been Cousins' QB coach the previous 2 years.

Yeah it's hard to swallow an apology from someone that had every intention of doing what they were doing. A 'sorry I got caught' apology never flies. The only reason I was never clocked doing 140 when I was his age is that I never owned a Lamborghini. I got my Olds Omega with a 350 up to around 110 a couple of times.
