it's too bad we're not signing risner...cleveland is gone next year, and a really solid o-line would increase our odds greatly....

In the early years, the Minnesota Vikings were like many new franchises of the time: dysfunctional, bad at football, and often intoxicated. And then a former NBA champion came back home to Minnesota and changed the identity of this franchise forever.

As soon as the pads go on and the hitting starts Booth comes up lame.

Kwesi better keep a close I on the available CB's because this guy is clearly a china doll.

it looks like dalton risner is a bible thumper - could explain cousins' red 66 jersey...checking twitter, I can't find anywhere else that risner is headed for a prospective team meeting....

from yesterday....

Andrew Krammer@Andrew_Krammer
Tough day at Vikings camp. Trishton Jackson, Andrew Booth Jr. exited with injuries; Jackson's appeared serious to right knee.

Alexander Mattison also hobbled off after watching end of team drills. "I should be OK," he said while heading inside for further testing.

What I like the most is, obviously the G is keying on him the whole way while he kind of just wanders into a gap and hardly notices: 'la-la-la ... get off me ... la-la-la ...'

Risner either wanted too much or didn't come across as position flexible as we wanted. Maybe we were only looking at him if a future injury requires it.

If we just sail through training camp with Cleveland Bradbury Ingram ... I think that's questionable.

Continuity is great if what you are continuing is good. Or you are continuing to build on something. Did those guys improve last year as we went on?

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/2/2023 8:58:09 PM)

Risner is still a possibility…

Waiving trash to see if they clear waiver is pretty common this time of year..

It just shows that KAM and KOC are aware of the OL issues and while handcuffed by dead cap are doing what they can to try and fix it..

It’s too early to call..

Mor,even slightly average 28 y/ o players is better than standing pat on the leagues WORST 2023 OL.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/3/2023 11:21:41 AM)

Are we sure we have the worst line in the NFL? Quite a few publications disagree. I understand it's tough to rank an O-line. I also know that we all don't watch every game from every team all season so there could be crap out there worse than what we see. I also sometimes wonder if Kirk's pocket presence and tendency to hold the ball too long makes the line look worse than it is. Anyway, here's a few rankings:

PFF ranks us #15 https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-2023-offseason
Pro Football Network ranks us #8 https://www.profootballnetwork.com/best-offensive-lines-nfl-rankings/
Sharp Football Analysis ranks us #10 https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/best-nfl-offensive-line-rankings/
Draft Sharks ranks us #21 https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/best-nfl-offensive-line-rankings/
The Game Day ranks us #12 https://thegameday.com/nfl/power-rankings/ol/
The Huddle ranks us #14 https://thehuddle.com/2023/06/16/2023-offensive-line-rankings/

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/3/2023 11:34:39 AM)

My assessment of the state of our offensive line, last season, is based solely on my years of watching this team play football.

It is just my opinion..

Stats by other sources might paint a differen picture, but what I witness, is a level of ineptitude that is personally unacceptable.

And it has been that way for years..

There are so many variables ... not mention that none of these ratings have insight into blocking assignment or play responsibility before the snap. I mean, you can usually tell what an OL is trying to do on any given play but there is the play call / the defensive alignment / adjustments at the line, not just for an OL but in the case of the IOL the OLineman on either side / then what the defense actually does at the snap of the ball ...

I would say LT and RT are well above average players, LG-C-RG are below average. People seem to think Cleveland is very strong in run blocking ... I have seen both he and Bradbury look fluid out in space but also fail to get any push at all in short yardage or when engaged right away at the line.

Worst OL in football? No. Based on my flimsy calculus I would say they fall in the middle or just below: 2 good, 3 not so good ... but the 2 good at higher value positions ... but the three not so good clumped together in front of your QB at every snap of the ball.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/3/2023 11:59:28 AM)

With your QB having a tendency to hold onto the ball too long -or- the playcall demanding the QB hold onto the ball too long (slow developing routes). Another thing that's impossible to know.

"Risner suffered an elbow injury in Week 17 that is likely to require 3-4 weeks to heal, which means Risner is going to be forced to sit out the team’s final game of the season. The fortunate news is that Risner’s injury, a partial UCL tear, will not require surgery and Risner should be just fine for any offseason training activities and certainly for training camp."

https://arrowheadaddict.com/2022/01/04/broncos-will-missing-dalton-risner-vs-chiefs-elbow-injury/

It's possible he is still not 100%. Odd that nobody has said that.

In an interview yesterday with NFL Network, Cousins talked about how he could made an incorrect call in the huddle and that could cause problems. It happened at practice. Made the call, made the wrong protection call and the Center did exactly what he was supposed to do on that call and that left Harrison Phillips unblocked to the QB.

Not saying this happens all the time...just that the QB can made an incorrect call and the lineman did nothing wrong.
