Pace, barring some fluke injury, absolutely makes the team. Listening to Purple Daily about Friday nights practice, it sounds like he is getting reps that they expected Asamoah to get. Almost like he's already jumped him in the pecking order.

Yeap. Per PPF.

Watching him play a few games last season it seemed he made plays everywhere. In this case PFF seems to back up the eyeball test.

Sam Ekstrom:

Some notes from #Vikings padded practice:

-TJ Hockenson did not participate in team drills, while Christian Darrisaw seemed to get dinged up midway through. Didn't see Jaquelin Roy either.

-Seemed like an uncomfortable day for QBs. Lots of pressure and many interceptable balls.

-We saw more of Ivan Pace Jr. with the 1s, as well as Mekhi Blackmon

-Jordan Addison had another great day, including some nice contested catches in the red zone. Not afraid of tight windows at all.

-Danielle Hunter had his busiest day yet as he participated in 11s

I love that attitude and it seems he has the skills and production in college to really use it and make some noise.

This "winning it all" talk is comical. A SB contender needs to be superior in the trenches which we are not on either side of the LOS. Even Mahomes couldn't overcome a leaky oline when they faced TB a couple years ago. Yet some posters think Kirk can do what Mahomes couldn't?

Sure. Put him on the 2000 Ravens and he has a chance.

But it sure is rare to not have a QB that can carry a team to the big win, instead of just being along for the ride.

Agree. Also, once we go down the road of "get everything else on the team perfect and then he can win just like Dilfer did 22 years ago", then what's the point of having a Kirk Cousins? Put anyone back there if that's our strategy.

Kirk is a very good QB. Not like Dilfer at all. He has never had a single game where everything was perfect and yet the Vikings have managed to win many games with Kirk proving the he needs things perfect claims false. If and hopefully when the Vikings win the Super Bowl Kirk will likely be a very large reason for the win. Not along for the ride.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/7/2023 9:31:00 PM)

Kirk has a better, more accurate arm than Dilfer.

Kirk can win a Super Bowl, if Flores gets the defense to be dominant.

kirk has to be willing to throw a pass that might not have a window when it's 4th down, or throw the ball away when the clock is ticking down and nobody open, or before taking a crucial sack...these are all mental errors - much more his problem than his physical issues....

throwing the ball away has to become a pre-conditioned response under certain conditions....

This is the most bizarre thing to me. He DOES that at times and then....he doesn't. It's just baffling. It would be one thing if it were a physical issue.

they probably do this already, but o'connell should run 'throw the ball out of bounds' drills - a pre-determined spot where kirk heaves the ball when there's total breakdown on pass protection....

kirk used to be considered one of the best play-action qb's, but it seems that we don't run it much anymore....

addison is looking like a huge pickup....o'connell has to do his best to protect him from injury....

nobody is talking about this, but i'm thinking that we should try to figure out a way to keep osborn - Jefferson, osborn, and addison could prove to be the best wr threesome in the league...and then a healthy nailor seems close to breaking out....

right now we're $35mm under the cap in 2024 - but we don't have kirk, hunter, osborn, hockenson....

I haven't watched one second of Quarterback yet. I don't go looking for Kirk Cousins stuff on YouTube or anywhere else, but I stumbled upon this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXoxzkP0slU and thought Kirk gives amazing interviews and I don't get where all the personal stuff against him comes from. If you're interested give it a listen. Maybe it's already been posted here.

Fish elsewhere.

Schlueter is a native of Victoria, MN, who spent six seasons at the University of Minnesota, starting 49 games at tackle for the Gophers. He stands 6'6" and turns 26 this month. Schlueter — who had stints with the 49ers and Jets in 2022 after going undrafted — initially signed with the Vikings in May after attending their rookie minicamp as a tryout player. If he clears waivers, he could potentially remain with the team on the Reserve/NFI list.

Thanks David.

Do we know the condition of Jordan Addison's dog?

I think it will be simpler than that...if you watched the tape the only player open on the field was TJ.....Thielen wasn't the same player after the first 6 games of the year.

You have Addison and Powell running routes and those throws don't need to be tight window throws against nickel and dime corners.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/8/2023 9:37:16 PM)

It seemed like when the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl, the McVay offense was slowed by NE blitzing one guy almost every play.

Maybe all the motion and deception takes a second longer to develop ?

Also, when the Rams had protection, Goff
didn't take advantage with a good throw, he seemed to miss.

this is why the most successful quarterbacks today can run with the ball, too...hockenson was flatfooted and wrapped up when he caught the ball - no momentum toward the first down marker...it looked like the wr on the left was breaking over the middle with some room, and cook rolling out to the left flat...i would have liked to see cousins take a couple of steps forward - maybe use cook as a shield against the man in the middle guarding against a QB run....

if cousins takes a couple of steps forward, the giant player guarding the middle would have to commit to cousins or cook rolling out to the flat right...or cousins rolls to the right himself to buy a little time....

bottom line is, throwing to hockenson was not the best decision....

KGDABOM, thanks for the interview link, Kirk is very likeable.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/9/2023 11:02:46 AM)

Mark this post:

I think next off-season, the discussion will be, should we promote Flores to head coach ?

Flores might have the killer instinct that KOC may not have, KOC might just be too nice a guy, and you would hate to lose the next Mike Tomlin.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/9/2023 11:06:03 AM)

I'm in the minority here, but I watched that play at least 30 times and I still contend Cousins had little choice. He had no time or room. There was intense pressure. The open receiver everyone wanted him to throw to was behind a Giant lineman who was bearing down on Cousins and right in his face when he threw it.

It wasn't a bad 'decision' by Cousins. He didn't even have time to make a decision.

Cousins had a good year. He led comeback after comeback. And you know that guy who got offensive player of the year? Who was throwing him the ball and facilitating that? You think a WR gets that award paired up with a mediocre QB? No chance.

This is making me sound like a Cousins bobo. I'm really not. But the criticism just gets silly. He's paired up with a QB minded coach and the same system for 2 consecutive years which he has never had before. Let's wait and see what he can do with it.
