Hmmm doesn't exactly spell success using limited draft resources on RB the last few years.

Hunt, like Risner, just went through meetings with team staff and a physical, I'm told. No on-field workout for the running back today.

If this regime values character Hunt should not have even been invited here period.

Yes it looked like his toes grazed the turf in bounds. Tremendous effort. But challenges in preseason games? What for? Why would it possibly matter?

if it counted, that would have been the best catch of the game...you challenge it to support your player and their efforts....

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/12/2023 8:13:22 AM)

ingram

-29.2 pass block grade with 4 pressures allowed, against the Seahawks 3rd string. Did grade well as a run blocker.

This guy along with Booth and Cine are all busts.

he got all the love and support he needed, including from the man with the red flag in his pocket - no one let that slide. it's not like he's being screwed out of anything that counts. and if he's a team guy at all he'll understand it and not give it a thought - he knows what what he did and knows the people making the decisions know it, too

Was the play shown in the stadium?

What you are saying has merit, but perhaps it was more important for KOC to have another play at that down/distance and position on the field.

Plus, when one of Addison's first 3-5 sentences as a Vikings was "Let's get paid!", I doubt he was thinking of preseason stats.

Ingram was really playing against 3rd stringers? For how many plays (to get that 'grade')?

Don't know. Quote was from Kruaser over on DN. He is reliable with his numbers. But agree more info is needed. If Ingram started I assume he's going against 2nd team. Nonetheless a terrible pass pro grade.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/12/2023 12:31:26 PM)

The game counts for nothing. Any delay of a preseason game is like waterboarding someone slower.

Did the bad call on Addison's catch matter? Of course. If you're competitive or prefer referees do things correctly. Stop the game for a review? No way.

They'll review the play in meetings, Addison will get a slap on his shoulder ... all good.

Clearly we prefer players with injuries over character.

Surprised challenges are even allowed in PS games. What for? Who cares?

a.j. rose, where are you?....

I thought Koback was easily the second best RB in the game. They'll be dozens like him wandering the streets after the last preseason game.

Not a fan of Nwangwu (as a RB). McBride got 1 (?) carry in the game. Unless they give him more carries in the next game, they already see him as a long term project or a bad pick. Smith showed nothing, even for just barely getting here.

I understand the need for #3 RB competition, I just don't understand the logic of a Hunt visit.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/12/2023 2:30:08 PM)

It's foolish to NOT challenge something that's pretty obvious.

The better your situation, the better your chances of being the aggressor. Not sure of the down, but if you don't challenge a 2nd and long that gave you a first down, that sets up a 3rd and long where the other team can be the aggressor, possibly leading to an injury of one of your players.

The better you make your situation, the less likely you get injuries, and the more likely you dish out punishment and injuries.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/12/2023 2:51:08 PM)

On nfl radio one of the guys said he asked O’Connell why no challenge and coach said they got no proper looks on replay so just let it go.

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/12/2023 5:28:09 PM)

We have 3 hunts on the roster already. If you want a change of pace runner, get a guy who is over 225 pounds and can get 3.5 yards regardless of blocking. I’m really concerned with the oline, overall depth, and Ingram’s pass blocking smarts.

For sure!

We have fast, shifty, bell cow, type running backs..

What we need is a fn guy who can get a yard with a stacked box and three defenders already in the backfield, .02 seconds after the snap.

Our OL short yardage blocking is ALWAYS going backwards..

Either we spend draft capital on human wall types who can plow and block, or we may as well throw zero yard screens. They have a better chance at short yardage than these OL speed bumps do, of moving 18 inches forward, ever.

You don't stop your kid from sticking marbles up his nose by giving him a bag of pinto beans.

We still haven't addressed the OL issues directly. Maybe we think that the solution to the pressures and sacks is to be more rugged in the run game. Maybe we want to run more to spring our passing game.

Mattison and Oliver were nice moves ... I totally agree with the need for more physicality in the Offense. That will directly benefit the passing game.

But if you're telling me the answer to resolving the pass blocking issues of Cleveland, Bradbury and Ingram is to emphasize their run blocking more?

I say, holy frijoles batman.

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/13/2023 12:47:32 AM)

I would definitely try to bring in another guard.

Vikings have the worst RB's in the league. Name a team that is worse? I'd by surprised if they didn't sign a vet.

Defense will be younger and faster. Did Roy play? How did Andre Carter look?

Team made a mistake going with Cousins again this year if they do not intend to resign him. Either rebuild it, trade Cousins, and go 4-13 OR build around Cousins, improve the defense, and go for the gold. Letting Cousins play here a final year means we are heading towards 8-9 or 9-8.
