Cine appears to be the 4th safety currently.

Kevin Seifert@SeifertESPN
I spent most of the practice watching the Vikings' defense. Lots of personnel shifting, as usual, but a clear theme emerged with the first team: A "big nickel" look with Josh Metellus on the field as a third safety/LB.

It's going to be interesting who they keep behind Mattison and Chandler. By most accounts it sounds like Powell is doing well at PR's and KO's. That may make Kene expendible. It also sounds like the dude in the 7th round is destined to the PS.

Regardless of who it is, I hope they are not behind Chandler. Seems any scrap heap type could fit that low bar. And if RBs are so easy to plug and play then Chandler is closer to being cut than being a starter or even a significant contributor.

A new DC and scheme should help equalize things for less experienced players. 'Should' being the operative word. Instead, it looks so far like Cine is just being Cine. Special teams contributor.

And it's not like Josh Metellus is some really experienced player. Actually, who or what is a Josh Metellus?

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 3:59:33 PM)

Jordan Addison can't seem to catch a break. After dealing with a tweak that forced him to miss a good portion of the offseason program, the Vikings first round wide receiver has found himself in concussion protocol. Addison got dinged up after going to the ground for a catch in a two-minute drill earlier this week.

Kevin O’Connell says Jordan Addison is in the concussion protocol after some “light symptoms” that they decided to keep him out. Doesn’t sound like they expect him out long.

“No reason to risk anything”

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 3:59:59 PM)

KOC praises Ivan Pace Jr ability to get off blocks, says it’s translated from college well.

“He did great with the green dot the other day in Seattle, gold stars all the way around for Ivan”

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 4:05:08 PM)

And there was CYA Kwesi after his first draft yapping about how there was total consensus and agreement with the Cine pick (and maybe the other high picks). Cine, Booth, Ingram... a real cavalcade of talent there. Maybe everyone who was involved in that quorum needs to be fired. Keep KOC but keep him out of those decisions.

I kid you not, the #Vikings defense forced a QB pressure on nearly EVERY drop back during 11 on 11's against the Titans offense today.

** of course in the reply section Titan fans claim they have the worst OL in the world

this is how I see our defense jumping to top 15 this season - we're going to create pressure from everywhere...flores, baby - just do it....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 8:25:41 PM)

Was there too much positivity brought to the board, causing it to be shutdown earlier?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 8:26:09 PM)

Keep Powell, cut Reagor.

I can see us giving up some big plays for sure but Im as excited as I can remember about an aggressive defense.

Watching teams march down the field on us with no chance to stop them is so demoralizing. ie: Frazier Zim jr Donatell

Every year I hear about how the defense will be more "aggressive". I hope it's true this time.

Cine will be good based on his speed, his production in college, being in a much better system, or someone else like Bynum or Metallus will step up.

Should the Vikings be leading their division near the trade deadline, I have a feeling they will trade for a stud RB.

Cine will be good based on if tackling with your head becomes popular.

Hated the pick and still do. I hope he proves me wrong.

Purple Daily was at the joint practice yesterday and confirmed the rampid blitzing from all over but also noted that it yeilded some pretty big plays (which, I guess, is expected to a degree). Gonna be interesting.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/17/2023 10:26:57 AM)

There, we got our rb: RB Aaron Dykes

ha ha, ok, but to be fair: you guys have probably watched him a lot more than me but that recent video clip that came out may be misleading. I had to watch it several times to conclude the ball carrier did cut at the last second to create an awkward tackle. But maybe he has a history of poor technique, i dont know

Not blitzing led to a lot of big plays last year...

So, what's the difference?

Might as well have a chance of something interesting happening

IMO

Bingo!

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/17/2023 5:15:30 PM)

I wanted QB Kenny Pickett last year, but he hasn't proven anything either, too early for both.

I wanted QB Trevor Lawrence, but he went too high. I wanted Anthony Richardson this year, but the Vikings probably didn't have the ammo. I also liked DTR, and he threw for 2TDs in his first preseason game.

I will just keep providing names of possible franchise QBs, based solely on a few college clips, and hope eventually the Vikings draft one.

So far it is: Trevor Lawrence, Kenny Pickett and Anthony Richardson. (Late round DTR)

If anyone was pushing for Trey Lance in the last year and a half they simply do not understand how to win in the NFL or they let emotions dictate their decisions.

Try putting forth a solid argument in an nfl chat forum before telling everybody ‘how to win in the nfl’.

Has Lance been a unknown quantity for the last year and a half? Ofcourse. He won the starting job last year over JG and Purdy before getting injured. He looked really lousy in their first preseason this year. Still an unknown, although the 49ers seemed to have swapped Purdy to the QBOTF and Lance to the project.

I think anyone ‘pushing for Lance’ has simply been pushing for young QB alternatives. Mond and Hall aint it.

No solid argument needed. From the start things looked off and it never got better. People wanted to bring him as a young project. If the 9'ers had high hopes for him he would never be available in the first place. A recently drafted 1st round QB highly regarded just do not become available. It only makes sense. It's more logical to suck a year and pick your own QB and hope you hit. If Lance was being traded that is a huge red flag that we don't want him either unless finishing around 500 is the goal. Just simple logic.

I am neither a Trey Lance apologist or fan.

I dislike but respect the 49ers organization. I absolutely value their personnel decisions over somebody like Lombardo or Paulderdicks.

Do the 49ers make mistakes like everybody else? Of course.

Was Lance a bad trade / draft pick? Not sure, he's still kinda' an unknown IMO ...

I'm not even sure he's started four full games ... because of injury, not demotion (for the most part). The opposite, he was named the starter last year after training camp / to start the season.

Maybe he's terrible. Regardless, he's a huge health risk. Which is like a magnet for Kwesi.

I don't know what he is at this point.
