$3 million in 2024 dead money from the Cook transactions.

If anyone was pushing for Trey Lance in the last year and a half they simply do not understand how to win in the NFL or they let emotions dictate their decisions.

Try putting forth a solid argument in an nfl chat forum before telling everybody ‘how to win in the nfl’.

Has Lance been a unknown quantity for the last year and a half? Ofcourse. He won the starting job last year over JG and Purdy before getting injured. He looked really lousy in their first preseason this year. Still an unknown, although the 49ers seemed to have swapped Purdy to the QBOTF and Lance to the project.

I think anyone ‘pushing for Lance’ has simply been pushing for young QB alternatives. Mond and Hall aint it.

No solid argument needed. From the start things looked off and it never got better. People wanted to bring him as a young project. If the 9'ers had high hopes for him he would never be available in the first place. A recently drafted 1st round QB highly regarded just do not become available. It only makes sense. It's more logical to suck a year and pick your own QB and hope you hit. If Lance was being traded that is a huge red flag that we don't want him either unless finishing around 500 is the goal. Just simple logic.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 10:33:37 AM)

Lance off the scrap heap for league minimum would be a no-harm pickup.

Real money or assets for Lance? Nope, not at this point.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 10:50:19 AM)

Lance is really an unusual case of way overdrafting only on potential and the unknown. I saw this yesterday and its kind of shocking that it would result in a massive overpay by a very smart GM:

quote:

Yeah it's crazy how inexperienced Lance still is.

Less than 600 total pass attempts in games dating back to 2016:
99 in high school (2016-17)
318 in college (2018-20)
174 in NFL: 72 preseason, 102 regular season (2021-23)
...adds up to 591 total pass attempts in his career, now in his 8th season and projected to be a backup this year

Compare that to Cousins: 643 attempts just in the 2022 regular season, and over 3900 attempts in the regular season since 2016.

I am strongly considering picking the Vikings to win the Super Bowl, I will post my predictions right before the season starts.

Based on? Or are you just putting money on it because the payout would be pretty good?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:08:48 AM)

Logic tells me the Super Bowl will be Philly over Cincy.

But there are always surprises. Someone like Minnesota, Detroit or Atlanta could surprise, beat Philly and be in the Super Bowl.

I think Irv Smith Jr. will ruin Cincy's playoff run, maybe sooner than later. My gut says KC won't make it, starting to lean towards Jax or the Jets.

-Now that we didn't trade Cousins for Lance I can see why.

Ive got $1 at +3500 --- oh wait, you weren't talking to me ;)

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:15:22 AM)

Richard.

Unlike past seasons, where the Vikes might have kept Donatell, give him another try, kept an aging Theilen, and drafted another sucky CB in the 1st round, the Vikings:

1) Made a significant improvement with Flores
2) Drafted a stud WR in Addison
3) Got a solid CB in Murphy
4) Drafted a stud LBer in Pace
5) Asamoah and Cine will be good
6) One of the other CBs will be solid, Williams, Blackmon or Evans

Why? They don't need him. He's a luxury if he pans out and a bench warmer if he doesn't. Or they just cut him. Its a 1 year, 1.75M contract.

Plus he'll probably get hurt and make it a moot point anyways.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:22:41 AM)

*Drafted stud LB Pace.

Flawless logic there.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:24:33 AM)

Cine will be good...

Again...based on?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:31:04 AM)

Cine will be good based on his speed, his production in college, being in a much better system, or someone else like Bynum or Metallus will step up.

Should the Vikings be leading their division near the trade deadline, I have a feeling they will trade for a stud RB.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:32:45 AM)

If Irv Smith Jr. is playing a playoff game for Cincy, he will either fumble the game away, or have a ball go off his hands for an INT.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 11:33:45 AM)

UNdrafted stud LBer in Pace.

The whole team will pick up the Pace.

I wasn't with you until you threw in the trade for a RB thought...[&o]

If Irv Smith Jr. is playing a playoff game for Cincy, it means he's turned his career around and is actually worth playing.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 12:47:06 PM)

Glad you're with me now Todd, trading for a solid RB, will be the final piece for making the Vikings a Super Bowl contender.

I believe that was a "stud" running back you were going to trade for ...

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 1:10:45 PM)

He's already hedging...

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 1:43:32 PM)

Sam Ekstrom@SamEkstrom
#Vikings defense seems to be snuffing out Derrick Henry pretty quickly in these non-tackling run plays. Ivan Pace Jr. just knocked him down to the ground — that could rile some people up if it happens again.

No solid argument needed.

Then you're good to go.

Although I agree with the red flag part (if the 49ers trade Lance at this point)

The post before about understanding winning football and being emotional ... you bounced yourself out any reasonable discussion.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/16/2023 2:58:59 PM)

It's going to be interesting who they keep behind Mattison and Chandler. By most accounts it sounds like Powell is doing well at PR's and KO's. That may make Kene expendible. It also sounds like the dude in the 7th round is destined to the PS.
