Package JJ and some first round picks for Caleb Williams, that might work.

Not might…it’s the dream.

And hope we don't end up with the next Baker Mayfield?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 12:42:44 PM)

No, hope we end up with the next Mahomes.

Those "hopes" are not mutually exclusive.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:18:58 PM)

Or you can keep running it back with the guy we have now and never get anywhere.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:23:57 PM)

The 3 man rush with 3 not great rushers is not a recipe for defensive success.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:28:44 PM)

Oline is the biggest issue, has been forever. That’s on the GM.

I hate the 3 man rush with a passion. If I owned a team I would shy away from anybody that likes it.

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:30:24 PM)

Lol...they just lost their best chance of winning a game this year. Too funny.

0-3 here we come, but Cousins is good enough to get us to at least 7-10 or 8-9 which means we are not picking in the Top 5 next year. I've have been saying this the whole offseason. Wasted season coming, but not a train wreck wasted season that will allow us to rebuild.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:34:11 PM)

41 rushing yards. Under 2.5 per.

And the yards we got were all Mattison making something out of nothing.

That's one of the issues when you use a 3-4 or a 3-3 base defense. You need two big ends who can play the run and pass equally well, and a BIG nose in the middle. We don't have any of those things. What we do have is a couple of active, small linebackers, but you can't build a defense around that. I guess I'm trying to say is we have a lot of problems right now.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:40:51 PM)

So much for smart guys that give us a chance lol.

Felt very similar to last year without the good bounces or self-implosion by our opponent in the second half.

Defense showed better than last year so there's that. For what its worth.

Mayfield deserves a little credit for having a little grit, in spite of being overall mediocre.

Not a lot to glean from a first game.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:45:41 PM)

You can’t have an immobile QB with a porous OLine.

I’d almost rather see Hall in there…

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:47:59 PM)

Big buzz kill today - man, is it Valentine's day, yet?

Still think we will be battling the Lions for the division?

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:54:10 PM)

Eagles are rolling.

Thursday is going to be ugly.

It could be really bad! They are giving the pats a curbstomping right now.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 3:58:20 PM)

At least we can let go of the “Flores is going to get another head coach gig if he does miracles” worry.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 4:04:29 PM)

Quick takes:
- Running game hinges on the heroics of Mattison, and at this rate his career will be over after his contract.
- It did not appear there was an iota of competitive spirit with Cousins outside of his meltdown after the Osborn takeaway.
- JJ with some great stats, let's hide the disappearing in the second half with 12 yards.
- The rookies made some good plays!
- Flores seems like a my-way-or-the-highway type, and I'm not sure how much he wants to look in the mirror.
- The D did not show anything except that they could not stop Baker Mayfield when it counted, but they have basically been thrown together.
- Offense was at home with a quiet crowd on a nice day... hard to imagine just how opposite things will be in four days.

Looks like 1-4 is a very real possibility. At that point I'm all for playing the young guys everywhere to prepare them for next year.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 4:25:37 PM)

Glad I didn’t buy NFL ticket this year. I gonna sit this year out.

Hope it turns out different than I feel it’s going to.

Hope I care again. It happens. I was a huge Tigers fan and now couldn’t name one player.

41-10 to much?

1-4 would be opptimistic at this point. The bucs were our early season cupcake on paper. Philly and KC are almost automatic losses. SD and CAR will be even money at best.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 4:42:51 PM)

The defense played well for 3 quarters, then tired in the 4th.

Last year's defense was fresh for the 4th quarter, after laying down for 3 quarters.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 4:44:03 PM)

I still think if the false start was correctly called where the Vikings were wrongly flagged for offsides, it could have been a lopsided wijn for the Vikings.
