So much for smart guys that give us a chance lol.

Felt very similar to last year without the good bounces or self-implosion by our opponent in the second half.

Defense showed better than last year so there's that. For what its worth.

Mayfield deserves a little credit for having a little grit, in spite of being overall mediocre.

Not a lot to glean from a first game.

Still think we will be battling the Lions for the division?

My comment was more about the Lions being better than some dismissive posters were saying.

I still think game 1 is a non-indicator for a lot of teams.

First impression was same old same old. Even with low expectations, I was hoping for better from us.

Quick takes:
- Running game hinges on the heroics of Mattison, and at this rate his career will be over after his contract.
- It did not appear there was an iota of competitive spirit with Cousins outside of his meltdown after the Osborn takeaway.
- JJ with some great stats, let's hide the disappearing in the second half with 12 yards.
- The rookies made some good plays!
- Flores seems like a my-way-or-the-highway type, and I'm not sure how much he wants to look in the mirror.
- The D did not show anything except that they could not stop Baker Mayfield when it counted, but they have basically been thrown together.
- Offense was at home with a quiet crowd on a nice day... hard to imagine just how opposite things will be in four days.

Also:

OLine is just not strong enough to create a run game

I think you need to play starters in last preseason game. Alot of rust. Scrimmages don't imitate a real regular season game

Hunter is being wasted in the 3-4. Trade him if season continues to go south.

Did Cine and Booth play?

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 5:02:33 PM)

Do we not have any guys that can jump and block a line drive FG[8|]?

I know you can't get a running start but we weren't even close to that helmet skimmer.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 5:17:34 PM)

The top 5 wr room can be put to bed too.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 5:22:12 PM)

Cousins and KOC have turned Hock into less than Jimmy K as far as yards per catch.

Hunter needs to be traded now. No more this and that. Now! Get some good value!

Maybe Cine continued his improved special teams play (Kwesi quote from a year ago). I feel bad for Cine. While Philly has been loading up on the real Georgia Bulldog talent, Kwesi gets cute. Cine was probably like "WHAT? DRAFTED BY WHO ALREADY?" Booth, lol and he seemed like a good second tier type CB pick (in my wrong opinion).

Hock 8 rec for 35 (4.4)
Oliver 3 rec for 32 (10.7)

And can we put to rest (again) the myth that is Ty Chandler? 3 for 0 yards. DJ Dozier II. If Mattison goes down, we are done. It's no wonder the regime was bringing in veterans.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 5:38:57 PM)

Mildly encouraged by the D as it could have been a hot mess. Could be interesting if KOC feels some of that game one shit on D needs to go. Then again, he let Donatell ride.

Having a lucky charm ride last year probably had us thinking he was a good coach. Truth is we have no idea how good he is. His offense sucks I do know that.

Wonder if he will likely download playcalling duties. We have like 47 assistants, so why not.

I don't know. It's the OL, statue Cousins, the playcalling....

Probably a reason he wasn't calling plays in LA.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 6:50:46 PM)

Jordan Love looks more composed than Cousins ever has

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 7:52:49 PM)

While correctly calling the false start on Tampa that was incorrectly called offsides on Minnesota would likely have kept the momentum in Minnesota's favor, it doesn't mean Tampa Bay wouldn't have countered, and we end up with about the same final score.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 7:54:26 PM)

Losing what may have been the most favorable matchup all year, probably means the Vikings will be lucky to finish 9-8, at best.

OTOH, 16-1 is still a possibility.

I thought 9-8 but after that offensive display maybe I was way off. I'm thinking we start 1-4.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/10/2023 11:01:11 PM)

Daniel Jones should give 75% of his salary to us…

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/11/2023 1:55:52 AM)

To Ed Donatell

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/11/2023 4:53:26 AM)

.
.
o'connell's biggest deficiency as a head coach could be his inability to recognize that he's not a very good in-game play-caller...he was unable to get our offense in any rhythm last night...and his quarterback needs everything to be faultless to reach his potential....

the two of them together are a train wreck....

cousins telegraphs zero-yard passes and screen passes, so they're easily blown up by the defense....

A great example of why you don't take the "gives us the best chance to win" approach and give up looking for the real deal.

I don't know about that....Kirk had a RG knock the ball out of his hands and a WR hand a CB the football at the goal line. He shredded TB for over 400 yards passing and they have a very good defense.

The worst thing he did is not move protection over on Winfield sack/fumble.

For shredding a defense he sure did have a lot of 3 and outs. You're still fooled by the few plays a game I see.

How do you rate the TB defense Richard? He threw for over 400 yards. I saw about 5 remarkable throws....the throw to KJ was a good one two that was a little late and KJ should have held on. Look at the tape on the throw to Addison for the TD and 3 of the throws to JJ that were in coverage.

Who cares about yards. I'll agree the Osborn play wasn't all on him. There's always an excuse though. Obviously our top 5 wr room needs to work too. This team will struggle to ever have a comfortable win until we get a real qb in here that doesn't crap his pants under pressure. Just my opinion. No I'm not letting the interior line off the hook either.

There is no such thing as a QB that doesn't crap his pants under pressure.

Tom Brady did it.

And he's the GOAT
