Jury is still out on most of the players.

Totally. Your point on "1 game" is spot on. No way to make any sort of judgement on this years class. I will say, though, that the D players that are showing good signs were all "table pounding" wants by Flores. It's been reported by several, credible, outlets. Good on KAM for listening, I'll give him that. He did say that he would take all opinions on stuff like that when he was hired.

I really like that in a GM. He has the last say but take the input by your experts to heart and help you. That's a quality of a really smart person and not someone who thinks they are.

I wouldn't even worry about what QB leads us next year. I'm more worried about what GM leads us in to next year. My stomach is getting Kwesi about this regime.

They are not going to fire KAM.
Get used to the Kwesi feelings

No they're not. This organization is completely dysfunctional.

Dysfunctional because you don't like Kirk?
Would you rather watch a 4-12 for multiple seasons team?

The dysfuntion was the Zimmer/Spielman fiasco of resigning older vets and not bringing in young talent.

Dysfunction because they'll keep Kwesi for years even though it's obvious he's out of his element. Dysfunctional because Kirk will be resigned. Dysfunctional because they can't seem to fix the IOL no matter who's GM or coach. Would you like me to go on?

Or maybe Kwesi has an outlined multi year plan to build a perennial winner that you just don't understand.

It would be more dysfunctional to fire a guy you just hired a little over a year ago to run the team.

Right after a 13-3 season, and one loss in this season is not when you fire a GM you just hired.

It would be dysfunctional to do so.

If his plan is to have completely useless drafts he's done a great job!

I wouldn't say they are completely useless.

Addison doesn't look useless.
Akayleb Evans didn't look useless. Cine and Booth aren't helping really at this point. but Cine showed signs in preseason and there are three guys he has to play better than to get on the field, One a future team HOFer, One our leading tackler and he is doing ok on special teams...

Mecki Blackmon made a play or two vs Tampa.

I would hardly call the drafts "completely" useless.

They haven't netted us 10 probowlers like some people want, but it has netted us contributors.

Jury is still out on most of the players. I choose to wait and see. Just because no one has burst onto the scene as a stud...doesn't mean they are completely useless.

What has Evans done? Just get playing time?

Sounds like the Phil mentality: he starts so therefore he is part of a successful draft.

And the Richad and Bill mentality is if he isn't a stud after one game, he's useless.

I believe i am somewhere in between.

Hmmm, I don't recall using the term useless. But because you were challenged, you are getting defensive. The "Let's wait" game. Check back in three years on Cine, Booth, and Ingram. Maybe extend them cause, you know, some players need more time to develop than others.

Too bad we can't trade Cousins to the Jets

Now, that's not a terrible idea. It would be giving up on this season, but we'd be able to stockpile draft picks which, in my opinion, are more valuable than Cousins at this point.

Way better to get something rather than nothing for him. It's not giving up on the season as much as believing the season is going to go bad anyway. Bit of a difference. If the thinking is we should be able to sniff the playoffs, then that would be giving up.

I didn't expect a lot out of the D, but it let Baker Mayfield build confidence to the point he was laughing and making plays at will to win the game. Meanwhile, I didn't see Cousins interact once with a player. He sat on the edge of the bench by himself, although sometimes with an assistant yapping with his iPad.

Because you have video of him for the entire time on the sidelines for the whole game to make this assessment?

Come on.

What can't you comprehend from "I didn't see..."

You're making a pretty strong judgement based on what you did see. And I did see him talking with JJ at one point. You are making a pretty strong judgement based on an unverifiable assumption.

I comprehend very well. You judge unfairly in my opinion based solely on the limited video you saw which probably covered less than 30 seconds of the time he was on the sidelines.

Yeah I guess when the camera was not on him at the end of the bench by himself, he walking the sidelines inspiring his teammates, conferring with KOC, and even chuckling about a couple of things to try to show he wasn't really mentally isolated. Right. Got it.

You have NO IDEA. You are INDEED GUESSING.

And so are YOU! Clearly, his time on the camera supports my assertion and not yours. Deal with it.

Of course I am. I can at least admit that.

You can't seem to get that you are making an assertion based on excessively limited facts. Like asserting that since a guy didn't contribute week one, he's useless. Guess JJ was useless in 2020 then.

So the camera wasn't on KC the entire game. What a revelation! OMG! How seemingly smart you are! What bothers you so much about "I didn't see... KC anywhere except on the bench."? Is it getting in your craw? LMAO!

I don't know what your 'useless' thing is with me, but it's off base. Wrong, but good try though as a disingenuous desperation move.

I am not in any way desperate.

My point, from the beginning, with Richard, since you can't comprehend it, was simple. He made an assessment of KC's interaction with teammates on the sidelines based soley on the few seconds of video the network showed of him during the game.

Useless was the word Richard used and you hopped on the critical of Kwesi bandwagon with him. Nothing is in my craw.

I just think one game is too short a time to make judgements on an entire season. and Less then a minute enough video to judge a QBs interaction with teammates on the sidelines.

I know that's hard for you to understand.

But whatever. Thus throw some more insults and attacks my way. That is your MO in Every thread.

I tend to give players more than a few games to develope.

This cracks me up. Replies to a vid of Kirk flipping out over the KJ pass that ended up an interception. Please tell me no one here thinks this way:

-Kirk should have either audibled out of the pass to KJ, with that safety cheating that way
-KJ shoulda had it but it was bad placement as well. Equal fault
-Bad decision on his part
-Don’t like the play? Change it.
-Who’s he mad at ? Himself for taking such an unnecessary risk ?
-Cousins should have been mad at himself for throwing into double coverage.
-He lacks accountability
-Blaming? No Kirk... You're a veteran. Shouldn't have thrown that. That's why you get paid the big bucks. Can't stand him
-

It was the right play, but Kirk was late with the ball.

A quicker throw and he has KJ open with a CB trailing.

But he waited too long, so he essentially threw him into double coverage as the safety had time to get there and the CB made up ground.

That said, even though the ball was late and a little behind KJ, it was definitely catchable.

But that's also been KJ's problem in his Pro career so far. He's awesome when he's wide open, but he's not good at contested, or off target catches. That's why he's really a 3rd WR at best.

I agree. we need more. How about we give the team a little more time to show one way or the other?

This year's draft I can agree. Last year's is pretty much what it is I'm afraid.

Of course one game is too early to make a assessment. But I didn't piggyback on the rookie class. The discussion shifted to EVANS. One player. He is not a rookie.

I shouldn't have to spell it out.

I never said I need studs everywhere. Having some of your high picks actually contributing would be nice though. [;)]

It would be nice if you would give them time to do so.

Addison got a TD.

Cine broke his leg horrifically just a few games in last year...didn't get a chance after that.

I tend to give players more than a few games to develope.

Cine can't even get on the field. Seems like a wasted pick but of course I'd welcome being wrong.

First things first. Get them healthy. Evans, Booth, Cine. Top 3 of 4 picks haven't had much luck staying healthy.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/12/2023 12:21:56 PM)

First game is always ugly.

Is that even valid? After all, the opponent has the same set of circumstances. Plus this season we were in the vaunted year two of the system while TB had a new OC, new QB, and new scheme. We had a new DC, but the same basic 3-4. And we were at home.

So I say that is a BS-type excuse.
