David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2024 4:18:22 PM)

Scott is interesting. Good size and he plays multiple positions:

Zavier Scott is one of the more versatile players in this entire draft class. Some of his snaps by position last year are:

13 snaps at Quarterback (wildcat)

58 snaps at running back

232 snaps at slot receiver

257 snaps at outside receiver

6 snaps as an inline tight end

For the year, Scott finished with 41 receptions for 421 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed the ball 39 times for 369 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Scott was truly a do-it-all player that lined up all over the field at Maine.

Scott's best attribute in the passing game is how dependable he is as an option. He hauled in over 73% of his passes a year ago, and over 70% of his overall receiving yardage came after the catch in 2022. He seamlessly transitions from receiver to ball carrier when the ball touches his hands, which led to big YAC opportunities for the Maine offense with him on the field.

Unlike most wide receiver prospects, Zavier Scott has some experience in the run game as well. He ran the ball 39 times a year ago, forcing 21 missed tackles on those few rush attempts. He also averaged over 9.0 yards per carry on those attempts, which is pretty impressive no matter which level of football you are playing at.

Zavier Scott also isn't afraid to mix it up in other ways as a receiver. He logged nearly 400 run blocking snaps over the past two seasons at Maine. Maine also trusted him a ton in the run game, oftentimes motioning him inside as the lead blocker on counter and wham rushes. Scott fared quite well with these types of assignments.

KOC should be able to win 9 with this crew.

The team has announced that they have signed offensive tackle Ricky Lee and running back Zavier Scott to the practice squad. In order to make room for them, the team has waived wide receiver Jeshaun Jones and running back DeWayne McBride.

These few days are always interesting. Some players make a roster or practice squad and a day or two later theyre off the team. And that has to be it for some for sure -- not that id have any idea what that number would look like.

Yep, I made it in the NFL ... but only for a day

Brett Rypien

Overview
Light on measurables, but high on intangibles, Rypien's lack of size, mobility and NFL arm talent makes it unlikely that he'll ever become a serviceable starter. What has a chance to save him is his football intelligence, accuracy and consistency. He stepped right in as a freshman and proved he could not only survive, but thrive and grow. A troubling number of interceptions were due to lack of arm strength so he needs to find a timing-based passing game in order to find a home as a back-end backup.

Strengths
Comfortable and experienced playing from under center. Smooth drop and setup and works with good rhythm. Compact release. Plays with above average football intelligence Games defenders into showing their hand before snap. Good eye manipulation to pull safeties out of position. Feels pressure develop on the edge and climbs the pocket. Consistent at keeping eyes trained downfield. Will pump and alter initial read and re-calibrate to a new target. Throws with timing and anticipation. Accurate passer on all three levels

Weaknesses
Falls below normal minimum standards for size. Hands are smallish. Too many fumbles from innocuous contact in the pocket. Small margin for error when making field side throws. Lacks arm strength to outpace ballhawks around the field. Interceptions come from leaving touch throws short. Mobility is below average and unable to threaten with feet. Helpless when trying to elude sudden rusher in his face. Gets sacked by arm tackles.

NFL Comparison: Nick Mullens

Hilarious.

And pathetic.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2024 9:41:08 PM)

So is he letting himself get hurt, or is it more of a fluke injury?

I think it's most likely a fluke injury in the 1st game. But it would be the type where allows it in the 2nd game, if he had a really good 1st game, one that would likely give him a good contract in the off-season.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2024 9:52:40 PM)

Missing 16 games would lead to a good contract?

Did he throw like 15 TDs in Game 1?

To their practice squad.

I thought he was getting a roster spot with the Jets.

Dudeā€™s barely hanging on. Iā€™m surprised he didnā€™t just retire with his 11 million dollar lottery win.

Bet we donā€™t hear about him next year.

Um.

His issues are between the ears but a strength is Football Intelligence?

Something doesn't compute here.

If Darnold throws 2 TDs in game 1, with no INTs, that's a lot fewer INTs than he would throw for a season. A decent performance in game one could lead to a nice contract, even if it's for a backup spot.

That's useful. Project our wins and losses based on our backup QB.

Not quite sure how to read your post. But Darnold has been the starter all along. There was no telling when JJM was going to start.

Assuming the outcomes are based on point spreads, I can see why the results are the way they are since they are based on what the public thinks. An NFL fan looks at Minnesota and thinks, oh their high draft pick QB is out for the year and they have to depend on scrap heap Darnold. Plus some starting WR is facing a possible suspension for sleeping in a car on the freeway. Their blondie TE is out. And they got rid of Cousins and Hunter. Flores? Isn't he involved in a lawsuit?

The intro of the article is, ā€˜once JJ went down, expectations dropped.ā€™

So what if your designated backup goes down, that had no bearing on our point spreads.

Does the injury thin our QB depth? Yes, although I doubt thats included in the point spreads ā€¦ but even if it is, nobody knows if McCarthy would fill in better than Mullens. God I hope so but who knows.

Just say the prognosticators have no confidence in Darnold and the team. Big deal, Its nether here nor there anyway.
