Hot take: Zebby is better than Joe Ryan. Check back with me September 2026.

IMHO there's a good chance Ryan will not be a Twin by then.

and after last night, I wouldn't be singing Zebby's praises just yet.

I'd be surprised if Ryan is on the move. He's an All Star starter in his prime and under team control. His recent comments don't change that.

I didn't think they'd trade most of the bullpen at the trade deadline, but here we are.

They tried to trade Ryan then too. Just couldn't sucker enough capital out of the Red Sox.

I'm just speculating, but I have a sense this team will move Ryan in the offseason.

They didn't shop Ryan. The Red Sox showed late interest, but wouldn't meet the price.

My guess is that they will first try to ink Ryan to a deal that buys his first couple years of free agency. If they can't, they have a two year window to trade him.

Valuewise, he's more valuable now, he's cheap and under team control for two more years. Now that argument goes both ways...

A reason to keep him is obvious

But he trade value will be highest now....not in a year and a half at the trade deadline. I think if they try to ink him, and they fail, they will trade him much more quickly.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/12/2025 9:05:46 AM)

There is no doubt, Ryan's value will never be higher. In a perfect world the Falvey organization would have produced pitching the way we were promised and Ryan's replacement would be waiting in the wings. We all know that didn't work out.

If the Twins objective is to be competitive next year, it will have to be built around the rotation. If the objective is a bigger picture and longer term, then they should trade him and Lopez for that matter. Follow the Billy Bean principle of trading players at peak value.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/12/2025 9:27:18 PM)

It's rumored that Baldelli is out after the season and will be replaced by either James Rowson or Derek Shelton.

otiscavin -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/14/2025 9:18:14 PM)

If you tell me which particular game or date you meant (“Game Day” for which matchup or day), I can pull up the detailed info (lineups, start time, TV/radio etc.).
Sprunki

If you can’t get new owners what does it matter? The on field product has been hamstrung the last 2.5 years.

Gleeman is saying Festa's shoulder injury is basically career-ending.

It's been hamstrung a lot longer than that. Either way, axing Rocco won't cause me to shed any tears.

His in game moves or non moves frequently cost us games.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/15/2025 10:36:12 AM)

Best question Gleeman received:

Will the Opening Day payroll next season be lower, higher or basically the same as it was the day before the 2025 trade deadline? — Steve A.

I’ll be absolutely shocked if it’s not lower.
Before the deadline fire sale, the Twins’ payroll was around $140 million. Their current baseline payroll for 2026 is around $95 million. Does anyone really believe they’re going to add $45 million in salary for next season?
I certainly don’t. At this point, I’d be more surprised by a payroll over $140 million than by a payroll under $100 million.
Also, keep in mind: MLB’s median payroll is about $165 million this season and will likely rise above $170 million next season. Relative to MLB as a whole, the Twins have already been spending at Metrodome-era levels the past two seasons.

Cheap asses will go cheaper.

Pablo Lopez is a virtual lock to be traded. No significant FA will be signed despite glaring needs. Twins will continue to suck, we'll have one remotely competetive season in the next 5 years making them spend a little more and then they will go cheap again. Wash rinse repeat.

As long as these asshats control the team, they will essentially suck.

Which is why I don't agree on Rocco or Falvey being fired.....they are doing their jobs with one hand tied behind their back and fewer resources than most teams.

Though I agree with this part of things, Rocco makes baffling in game decisions all the time. A Guy hitting 2 home runs and a double in the three previous at bats? Pinch hit for him. A pitcher is throwing a gem, cruising, on low pitch count, pull them. Keep going to really bad pitcher in bullpen (Pagan) despite the obvious sucktitude in high pressure situations? Continuing to play guys with sub .200 batting averages daily. I could go on and on and on.

Rocco's not in a great situation, but he doesn't do anything to make the most of it. He makes matters worse a lot of the time with little regard for what might happen later in the game. Sometimes this moment isn't worth the change. Sometimes you hold off and make a change later.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/15/2025 12:22:25 PM)

Falvey doesn't have one hand tied behind his back when it comes to scouting and drafting. He deserves to be fired for not fixing this part of the organization in nine years. The Twins drafts are uniformly terrible.

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/15/2025 8:14:53 PM)

Where did SWR find THIS stuff tonight?

6 shutout innings vs the Yankees and 11 strikeouts. Just incredible. Too bad our bullpen could be an issue tonight. Fingers crossed.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/16/2025 7:02:41 AM)

Interesting stats. In 11 starts at Target Field, SWR has a 3.05 ERA. In 10 games on the road, he has a 5.89 ERA.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (9/16/2025 7:16:28 AM)

Figures. When it absolutely positively doesn’t matter, we dominated the Yankees.

He is a decent pitcher w/o dominating stuff. Radke like?

Not yet. Not even close. Radke was an allstar who got too little consideration for how good he was in his day.

SWR is inconsistent, young, and he's been battered far more often than he's pitched well. The jury is still out on SWR, but it doesn't look good for him.

Brad wasn't great until his third year.....he was 24. SWR is really young yet. You may be surprised but his ERA is better than Radke as the same point.

I watched him strike out a few last night with just average stuff and using location, change of speed, and direction......

Good Glad he is progressing, but he is still a long way from being compared to Brad Radke imho

SWR will turn 25 in a few days. He is no longer really young. At 24, Radke had 3 straight years of improvement. SWR numbers went down from year 1 to year 2.

Radke pitched in the toughest era for pitchers. Right at the peak of the steroid era.

Gleeman:
What can you even say at this point?

@DanHayesMLB reports the #MNTwins  eliminated their entire four-person pro scouting department in a cost-cutting move.

That includes @johnmanuelNC, who joined the Twins after being editor-in-chief of Baseball America.
