good lord it looks like the Anthony Richardson talk is gaining steam...

That does nothing for us

He is a project like JJ

We still need a QB to start this year

I strongly agree that he does nothing more for us than JJ. And probably less.

Not sure a veteran placeholder for 1-2 years is available or that 1-2 years of a solid placeholder is even something to aspire to anyway. We seem bent on living the life of ‘just good enough to make playoffs’.

Should we have more than one development project percolating in the background?

This franchise, as long as I can remember, has rigidly pursued the ‘designated starter, non-threatening backup, and no shot project’ model.

AR has started 5 games and looked like every other great physical specimen that cant play the position.

I mean, if you’re going to hang in there with 10 game JJ … not sure AR isn’t worth a short test drive on your development track, or someone like him.

Depends on how small a price, and it needs to be small.

And you still need the veteran placeholder so the season(s) aren’t too excrutiating.

15 games.

To quote myself:

He's way worse than JJ.

Anthony Richardson is "What if Joe Webb was taken in the 1st round?"

He was not a good QB in college, he was a tremendous athlete with a huge arm. Could not hit short passes to save his life.

He's the same guy in the NFL.

2024 is the only season he threw more than 2 games worth of passes.

In 11 starts, he completed 47.7% of his passes with 8 TDs and 12 INTs. He did lead the league in Yards per Completion, but again, that's because he can only hit longer passes. He averaged a measley 165 yards/game.

28% of his throws (70 on the year) were considered "bad throws" and he was "On Target" only 58% of the time.

He did have 500 yards and 6 TDs running the ball. He fumbled 9 times.

Now for comparison, let's do JJ:

In 10 starts, he completed 57.6% of his passes with 11 TDs and 12 INTs. He averaged a measley 163 yards/game.

21% of his throws (51 on the year) were considered "bad throws" and he was "On Target" only 66.5% of the time.

He did have 181 yards and 4 TDs running the ball. He fumbled 6 times.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/27/2026 11:54:05 AM)

Richardson sucks. I laughed when he was drafted so high. At best he tops out as an oft-injured RB (yes RB).

It just seems like no way, it's too far out of the realm to have two QBs battling to be historically bad.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/27/2026 12:33:04 PM)

Anthony Richardson and JJ McCarthy have already made it to the Pros, they are both already Great, and it will be great when either one of them leads the Vikings to their 1st Super Bowl win, thanks in part to Brian Flores.

Oh that …

sure but then Marty agreed with you

so AR’s back on my list of possible saviours.

Honestly, I just dont see this years draft or free agency moving us forward enough.

It remains to be seen … I’m more skeptical than hopeful of this team for a long time now.

we cant just sit on our hands and incubate JJ.

We need a veteran placeholder and a co-developer, on top of the other positions.

A lot to ask.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/28/2026 9:01:39 AM)

Not big on the underwear olympics but holy shite some of these prospects are posting some insane numbers. I was hoping Sonny Styles would be there at 18 but he might go top 5 after that performance. A perfect 10 on his RAS score is just incredible. His brother ran a 4.27 forty.

Same. We are in QB limbo. If they give JJ another go it seems it will be another year of let's see what we have. Drafting at a middling #18. Worse cap situation in the NFL (although it will be at least zeroed out by March 11). No GM.

Looking forward to the Triangle of Whatever cutting expensive deadwood. That may be my highlight of the season.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (2/28/2026 10:20:02 AM)

Maybe it's been talked about but I haven't seen it mentioned. It also has no credibility other than the insane voices in my head. That said, I wonder if they are delaying bringing in a real GM until after this season to see how KOC does. Most people think he's not in danger but what if they are just giving him this season to turn it (the entire QB situation) around and if he doesn't.......he gone.

If he does, work with him to find a GM he approves of. If not, start over.

I'm curious about the combine numbers and don't put a ton of stock into them since there is GPS that tracks on field movement.

But damn, those kids at Ohio State are athletic freaks! Ohio State very well could have 4 players selected in the top 10. I don't think that has happened before in modern NFL.

it has the air of anything can happen. so theres that.

That's true, the wild card aspect offers some excitement. Things can range from no-trades and ho-hum safe picks to total frenzy. From several accounts, Brzez is the stoic, no-nonsense guy so expect the former. But maybe he'll think this is my one shot is life to go crazy!

4 leaks from Schefter out of the combine:

1. Jones will be cut - duh
2. Hargrave will be cut - duh
3. Hock is back - not at his current salary right Rob? RIGHT???????????????????????????? [:-]
4. Went is back - what? Just go with JJM and Brosmer if that's the plan. At least you would either have a franchise QB or a top 5 pick. This does absolutely nothing for my hopes

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/1/2026 5:04:48 PM)

Next year…

Draft this guy..

Trey'Dez Green

LSU tight end..

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/2/2026 7:41:11 AM)

TBH I would consider drafting the Oregon TE if he is there.....
It’s Official: This was the fastest 40 from a TE with a 4.39o from Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq on his 2nd 40 attempt

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/2/2026 8:16:37 AM)

Fowler: I've also heard that the Vikings are considering Murray and Smith as they outline their veteran quarterback plan. Tua Tagovailoa and Cousins are also on their radar. Some I've talked to are breaking those four into two tiers, with Murray and Smith in the first group.

None of those quarterbacks are free agents, but Cousins will be soon, and the others are available via either a trade or a release. The expectation leaguewide is that a combination of Murray, Smith and Tagovailoa -- and possibly all three -- will be free agents soon enough, barring intensified trade talks. And many quarterbacks view Minnesota as an attractive destination.

Smith possibly joining the Vikings has been underplayed as a pairing in league circles, but it makes a lot of sense. He's due $18.5 million in 2026 guarantees but has another $8 million that guarantees on the third day of the new league year. He also offers "bridge QB" cover if the team doesn't want to bail on McCarthy and show a true QB competition, even if veiled.

Will he be there at 18? Need a day one player. Either would accomplish that.

CBS mock has him as being there and Sadiq gone at 15.

His statistics aren't great. Most of these guys that can run fast in their underwear don't amount to much.

Lorenzo Styles Jr is another guy 4.27 but doesn't play fast on the field.

I didn't watch any Oregon games but from what I heard they mostly got Sadiq the ball on gadget plays to utilize his speed. Which might put into question his route running and his hands. I honestly don't know much about him.

Most of these guys that just run fast seem to end up in jail vs the HOF.

I'm biased, I live in Oregon and watch the Ducks, when I do watch college.

Sadiq reminds me of a Vernon Davis (light), very raw, is going to need a lot of development at the pro level but could be really good in a few years.

Dillon Thieneman, their safety was all over of field and really stood out and flashed in every game I watched. I'd love to see him in purple taking over for Harry.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (3/3/2026 9:26:11 AM)

Yeah, pre draft coverage on Sadiq was he has all the measurables but not much on production. Solid pass at 18. TE isn't one of our biggest needs anyway.

Still can't believe we passed on Hamilton for Cine
