Should be fun if nothing else but what I expect is rollercoaster fun, not the euphoria of building success to a SB win this year or the next.

Total rollercoaster. For the season, for each game, and even for each series.

I think if you had a grand in disposable income you'd have to take over 8.5 for the Vikes.

No more being sure of anything wrt destiny or finally but calling 9 wins seems like a good bet.

If we only win 8 you'll be sad bc you're out a grand and Murray will be 0/8, Jefferson 0/7, and KOC 0/5 on seasons with a playoff win.

10 and a playoff win would be something at this point.

Murray.

- Is beyond cheap.
- A great pickup in terms of value and what was out there.
- Has played well at times and isn't on his last leg.
- Might have success playing with the WRs and OL.
- Is a total wild card.
- The NFL is a business to some, a game to others, and entertainment to still others... Murray in Minnesota in 2026 is associated with the latter.

.
if murray wins 11 games as a starter, he's going to want $60mm/yr from us....

After the last two treasonous playoff performances by our QBs, 10 wins and a playoff win gets you another ground-breaking, market shattering contract.

So … just below an average Cousins 1 year extension.

Exactly why I think he will work hard as hell....he wants that contract. Nothing better than motivation.

RIP Joe Senser. How many skeletons (most not of his own fault) buried there?

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/7/2026 7:01:28 PM)

Still the only tight end in team history to have more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season, putting up 1,004 yards in 1981.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/7/2026 9:41:49 PM)

Looks like we finally have a receiver that can get into the endzone. Jennings gets 1 year deal worth up to 13 million.

8 mil base
5 mil in incentives

Good deal for Vikes based on his past production.
Supposedly a very good run blocker.
Hope he can win in the redzone.

Nice move!

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 3:09:49 AM)

All he does is score TDs, 😂.

Nice move.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 8:04:31 AM)

I was surprised he signed a 1 year deal.

He was looking for WR2 money. Looks like no one offered it.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 9:21:49 AM)

Alright! Barring a surprise acquisition at C, feels like the offense is good-to-go for 2026.

On defense, maybe sign an edge for depth? Might be a lot to ask for Golday to learn two positions.

Hard to say. Golday played both positions in college. Wilson has also played outside in Flores' defense. It's always preferable to have a lot of edge depth in this defense.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 9:47:50 AM)

"Krauser" at Daily Norseman continues to be the one commented always worth reading. Dude breaks down film and players like a Pro:

Jauan Jennings is just a good football player.

He's tough and aggressive and finishes his blocks. He's a big target who comes down with the ball in traffic -- 20 contested catches in 2024 (tied for 3rd in the league with Sutton and St Brown) and another 18 last year (tied for 4th with Higgins and Chase). He scores touchdowns. He's clutch on 3rd downs -- Niners fans called him "3rd and Jauan" because Jennings was so consistently able to move the sticks. He can even throw the ball -- he's 2 for 2 with 2 TDs on trick plays in his NFL career, and had a couple of passing TDs in college as well.

Vikings will be able to use Jennings as the big slot with blocking responsibilities in the box ("Cooper Kupp role"), digging out safeties in the run game. He can also line up outside as the X allowing Jefferson to move into the slot. This might be especially effective in the red zone. Addison can play as a pure outside receiver flanker. With everyone healthy, the Vikings should have the best top 3 WRs in the league.

The contract as reported is a bargain. I think Jennings is worth more like $15-17M per year, in the same range as Romeo Doubs or Rashid Shaheed. Jennings has only limited career earnings considering his production, as a former 7th round pick who bounced through the practice squad -- $15.8M/2 on his RFA contract is most of it. It seems he was looking for closer to $20M AAV on a longer term deal. There's a rumor he turned down something in the range of $17M from the Niners. Draft evals can be "sticky" in terms of market value, and Jennings (the former 7th rounder who ran 4.72) apparently just didn't have a market for a bigger contract, even though he's been such a solid player the last couple of years.

I thought the Vikings might be willing to commit to Jennings for 2-3 years. Addison's long term situation is uncertain, even though it does look like the team will extend him if he can stay out of trouble going forward. Even with an extension, Addison's cap hits will be on the lower end through 2027 so they could have accommodated another WR contract in the meantime.

But this continues a trend this year to rebuilding the roster with few long-term contractual commitments. At this point, the only Vikings veteran contracts with significant dead cap hits in 2028 are Jefferson and Darrisaw. The list isn't much longer even just next year in 2027: Jefferson, Darrisaw, Murphy, Eric Wilson, Oliver and Fries are the only veteran contracts where the dead cap hit is >50% of the cap hit on the roster, and even there Fries being released would open up nearly $10M. That total could change with extensions this summer (O'Neill, Cashman?, maybe Van Ginkel again?) but they've really cleared the decks beyond 2026.

Kenny Moore was released by the colts.
A very good slot cb at one point.
I don't think the Vikes will do it... but I'd feel a lot better about secondary if they added him.
If Murphy/Rodgers/Pierre go down... you are looking at McGotherin/Rookie replacement.

Read in a couple of places that Golday is a bit slow to react to plays. Add in the fact that the NFL is faster and Flores' defenses are difficult for a player to understand and IMO the learning curve is going to take a while.

I hope they find an edge who has played in his defense and understands it. Assuming the concepts and schemes from years ago are even valid!

Yeah I thought about adding CB to the post after the fact. Seems like they will bring in a vet.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 10:07:47 AM)

According to Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have requested an interview with Buffalo Bills assistant GM Terrance Gray for the GM position in Minnesota. He was a Vikings college scout from 2006 to 2016. He then became Buffalo's director of college scouting in 2017. Promoted to assistant personnel director in 2021, personnel director in 2022 and assistant GM in 2025.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 10:30:54 AM)

8 Mill for a guy with that history is a robbery. Best WR room in the league and no excuses for this O now. This also gives them flexibility on what to do, long term, with Addison. It's still early but I love Rob B's approach so far. The 18th pick was/is super risky, but I have to believe that was a Flores call.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 11:24:11 AM)

Really thought Jauan had moved on.

Very good deal for a team sticking to its guns. One could argue for a vet edge or cb or s but flores is better at platooning people than koc … flores schemes are a fire drill anyway … IMO jennings was vital for our new munchkin attack / will be this years wilson for value impact. well I guess there’s not much competition for that but still …

Plus … it will be fun to watch the gb / det cbs trying to play their little mindgames with jet when they’re crumpled on the ground sobbing.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 12:00:44 PM)

I'll add this. Nothing else matters if the OLine sucks again or can't overcome injuries. We are the champs of "great weapons who can't fire because the Oline stinks".

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (5/8/2026 5:32:41 PM)

A really good move.

I dismissed it bc of what he had his value at. Probably a better move for us than for him.
