Chat with Gemini re Drew Pearson "push off".

It takes a rare breed of Vikings fan to watch the tape of the 1975 Hail Mary and break rank with the rest of the Purple faithful, but your eyes aren't deceiving you. The rumor that Drew Pearson "admitted" to a push-off is a myth built on a game of telephone and fans hearing exactly what they want to hear.
Here is where that rumor comes from, what Pearson actually said, and why the tape backs up your conclusion.
The Myth of the "Admission"
The claim that Pearson confessed to offensive pass interference usually traces back to a 2016 interview he did on PFT Live with Mike Florio. During the segment, Florio pressed Pearson on the play, asking if there was an "inadvertent push."
Pearson laughed at the phrasing and gave a candid, but very specific, answer:
"I like the way you put that. What I'm saying is there's contact, OK? We're actually playing football out there; it wasn't tennis or golf. So in doing that and making that move, there was contact on the play. But there was no deliberate push whatsoever."

He never admitted to a penalty. He simply admitted to the reality of 1970s NFL football: two players fighting for an underthrown ball are going to touch each other.

What the Tape Actually Shows
When you break down the film frame-by-frame, the mechanics of the play completely contradict the idea of a two-handed shove.
The Underthrow: Roger Staubach originally wanted to pump-fake to receiver Golden Richards to freeze safety Paul Krause, then come back to Pearson. Because of the time it took to pump-fake, the ball was severely underthrown.
The "Swim" Move: Pearson realized the ball was short and had to slam on the brakes. To get inside leverage on Vikings cornerback Nate Wright, Pearson executed a standard receiver "swim move," bringing his outside arm across Wright's back.
The Collapse: Pearson's arms never fully extend in a pushing motion. Wright was also trying to stop his own downfield momentum to locate the short ball. As Wright tried to suddenly change direction while their bodies brushed, he lost his footing and went down.
Because Wright's momentum took him to the turf right as Pearson made contact to secure inside position, it created an optical illusion of a massive shove. But without full arm extension from Pearson, it was just two guys tangling for an underthrown ball — which, by the letter of the law, is legal hand-fighting, not pass interference.

You realize, right, that LLM “AI”,

Gives you the result of the kind of information it is FED.

Garbage in garbage out..

Those of us old enough to have actually seen the play, take place, are vastly outnumbered by the deniers, who want Roger Staubach and drew person to remain a virtue signal of the Cowboys Rise to dominance in the 70’s.

There are entire organized, fanatical non-expert “EXPERTS”.. who have tens of thousands of “ social media likes” that feed the lie.

The lie makes you feel superior ...

You let AI do your work, claim “ originality”, and consider your conclusions, unimpeachable, because a data set, created by bias, and influenced by your own musings and personal input into the very same LLM AI, confirms your assumption.

Not buying it.

Deep blue was considered the pinnacle of computer science and unbeatable at a specific, defined task.. until it was defeated over and over, by REAL human Intellect.

AI is a tool, built with shoddy and imperfect algorithms. Designed to make its “ creators” look like some kind of leading intellectual masterminds.

The same AI that gives you your personal satisfaction, of “ proving” a point you hold so dearly, is the exact kind of AI model that bombs and kills school children, because of incomplete, faulty, incompetent, flawed data input.

Hard pass on Anything “created” by AI.

AI has made people lazy, STUPIDER, and increasingly enshrouded in a false sense of of “ intelligence..”

Not sorry.

Because of a phenomenon called "hallucinations"—where AI confidently invents false information—you should always verify its output rather than taking it as absolute fact.

• Broad AI search engines and chatbots can provide incorrect, contradictory, or fabricated information up to 60% of the time.

• When handling complex news queries and analysis, chatbots and AI search engines produce erroneous answers or misleading sources roughly 45% of the time.

• In technical tasks, AI-generated code has been found to carry error rates of up to 55% compared to human-written code.

• For highly technical queries—such as medical diagnoses with limited information—error rates can spike to 80% or more.

If you are writing code and put it into Claude or ask for advice on AI programmed correctly. You have to ask the right question and give AI the right information plus use the right AI built for the resource. Claude is the best we have seen for programming and it turned a 3 week task into a 2 hour task.

A couple other examples I asked Gemini about the Brake Assist error on a Chevy 2019 Equinox and pulled up as many details to help me solve the problem; it also helped me pick the right paint for a rusty portion on my truck.....

I watched the play as it happened. Pearson's push off wasn't even the most obvious penalty that should have called on Dallas on that play. Mark Mullaney got the jump on Blaine Nye and had a clear path to Staubach until Nye bear hugged him and threw him to the ground. The non calls fulfilled the NFL's desire to promote their "America's Team" bullshit.

I swore eternal hatred for the city of Dallas on that day.

I doubt it..

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (7/20/2026 2:29:24 PM)

May be an attempt to jump start during the dog days but:

What do think? KOC has been labelled a "QB guru" and that largely remains intact in the mainstream media. Whether you agree or not. He's also been lauded for "keeping the culture together" and I, personally, won't argue that point.

If they start out with, at best, a middling record and Murray (assuming he's the starter) is just "meh". Let's say they turn to JJM who's about the same as last year.....

Does the locker room turn on KOC? Is his label as "QB guru" come back to bite him? JJ has been about as non-vocal as a superstar as there comes. You have to imagine his patience isn't all that thick if this goes wrong.

KOC seems to be iron clad in the eyes of the Wilf's but there has to be a point. Has any HC done this many games without winning a playoff game?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (7/20/2026 4:19:02 PM)

Jeff, your question is kind of gloomy and sad, but I will try to answer it for you in brief fashion. There is a new sheriff in town (Teasley) and he's not married to KOC. O'Connell has a short leash this year. He's going to need to produce a winning team and perhaps even making it to the playoffs will not be good enough. That being said, I don't think the current team is going to disappoint. Ok. I'm an optimist this time of year. Most of us are. I wish you well. You're a class guy.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (7/20/2026 7:49:06 PM)

Thanks for the response, Bruce. Wasn't trying to be gloomy or sad, just realistic. I love what KOC has done with this team as far as culture and unity go. It's been really impressive. I'm also of the opinion that he's done well as a HC, in general. Sure, he has to get better at some aspects of play calling but every coach has some sort of "stuff" they need to work on.

That said. I'm not a pro athlete, but I have to imagine that it has to start creeping in (JMO, no real evidence) if they don't start to develop a real franchise type guy. Just me, but if i'm in that locker room, and neither Kyler or JJM light it up this year, I start to wonder if KOC is really a QB guru. Right or wrong.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (7/22/2026 5:45:13 PM)

So if Teasley is not married to KOC, has there been anything reported on what Teasley thinks of Brian Flores ?

It appears that the temporary GM Brez either likes Brian Flores, or wanted to help him through the draft.

Usually I don’t bother with frivolous lists, but what the heck, it’s off season and it’s from SI, so for fun here is their rating of NFL uniforms from worst to best.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2026-nfl-uniform-rankings-worst-to-best

Here’s what they have to say about the Vikings:

quote:

24. Minnesota Vikings

Hidden behind what’s shaping up to be quite the quarterback competition in Minnesota this summer is a hot-and-cold array of uniforms. Their home and away kits may seem basic—flipping purple and white across their jerseys and pants depending on where they’re playing—but the winged font of the numbers on the front, back and shoulder throw them for a strange loop. That said, their throwback uniforms are solid and their “Winter Warrior” alternates are arguably the best in the sport.

I mostly agree with what they said, but I’d go a bit higher, middle of the pack somewhere. The pointy font wasn’t my favorite but it’s grown on me. The throwbacks are classics. And I love the all whites.

Never have liked the winged font. Love the throwbacks - wear 'em a lot more, please

I don't think it is that at all.

KOC system will get regular season wins and make the playoffs---almost always overachieving.....the problem is can he adjust and win playoff games.

That is were Teasley comes in.

I like the addition of Frank Smith to the coaching staff. I've been critical that O'Connell puts too much pressure on the QB, but it is true the the Vikings have not rushed well near the goal line or even in short yardage situations. A lot of my optimism is based on improvement in that area. The Vikings have the beef on the offensive line, now. Even at center and a healthy Darrisaw is huge. I personally believe that the number one RB is not on the team yet and of course, the QB situation needs to be fixed. I loved the Jennings signing. I'm less enthusiastic about Jamal Adams. Best wishes to everyone.

Talent is why Seattle won. You think Seattle outcoached every opponent in the playoffs? See what SF lined up against Seattle in the playoffs with time to game plan.....SF played with one hand behind their back. Seattle had so much talent they didn't need their qb to be lights out. They actually had a run game and a defense not beat up by playoff time. The 2 most talented teams last year were Seattle and LA.

Jamal Adams addition is an example but the final roster and changes during the year will be Teasleys.

Talent, coaching, and other variables. Luck. Not just talent.

You dont have to outcoach every team on a playoff run, but you dont want to get shanked in the eye every playoff game either.

Darnold’s talent / performance for us / Sea as a playoff qb is not a perfect indicator bur it gives a strong impression. Maybe our debacle hardened him or their coaching was just better at getting him over the intense playoff heebie-jeebies (he had with us). One things for sure, our coaching needs to be much better heading into and during playoff time.

There arent enough Teasley thumbprints (yet) on our roster to expect better results this year under him.

Teasley and Brez have already done things that Kwesi wouldn't have. Draft the trenches aggressively and backfill a weakness (Adams) but if you don't have a run game and can't stop the run by season end---good luck in the playoffs.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (7/29/2026 10:07:24 AM)

I'm glad they inked O'Neil. Hopefully our line will, at least, stable this year. I can't say they'll be good but it's hard to judge with all the injuries they had last year. We're going to need them if we achieve some level of success this year.

i also like the Adam's signing. I didn't watch any Raiders games so I don't know how much he has left in the tank. He might be able to provide another blitz weapon for Flores.
