This low point in the season, feels similar to the end of the 3rd quarter against the Bears.

Along came JJ McCarthy, with an electric 4th quarter.

Now if we can either convince McCarthy it doesn't matter what the opposing teams secondary looks like, or if we can get every opponent to field a similar, injury ravaged 2ndary as what we saw against the Bears. ......

Best offseason addition: RB Jordan Mason

Acquired via trade from the 49ers, Mason has proved to be a powerful and resourceful runner. He is averaging 2.02 yards after contact per carry, part of the reason his first-down rate is 28.4%, which is 11th best in the NFL and by far the highest for a Vikings running back since coach Kevin O'Connell arrived in 2022. Mason's four rushing touchdowns might seem modest, but they are only one short of what Aaron Jones Sr. produced in all of 2024. -- Kevin Seifert

There hasn't been a full game yet where KOC has leaned on the Running Game....closest is the 2nd half against the Bears and also the Cincy game for a half.

That's what happens when you're playing from behind.

He doesn't focus on the run early in games.....he passes to run.

You say a lot of dumb things on the Vikings thread.

This one is way up there.

Just know that if Zimmer had handled it the same way, he would have been called a neanderthal. You know it. We all know it.

That doesn’t excuse the beat down.

I respect Wentz for being a team player but needing surgery before the Chargers game … vs the ultra-pampering JJ has gotten for a high ankle sprain … is ludicrous.

Seems neither situation is up to the player … nor apparently the team doctor mainly. One is disposable and served his purpose, the other has been given all known time and space to get 150% healthy before being put back in harms way. JJ’s not only a savior for this regime, its like they’re grooming him to colonize a new planet and rescue our species.

O'Connell clearly rode Wentz like he was a human trafficker while he has treated JJM like a new born prince.

I 100% believe that JJ McCarthy is KAM's guy and O'Connell doesn't think he can play at this level. It's a pissing match between the coach and GM. O'Connell would have preferred to go into the season with either Darnold or Jones, while KAM wanted to save money and give his prized pick a chance to play (thinking he is the Billy Beane of the NFL).

The ankle injury was a charade. It was a 1-2-week injury, if anything at all. O'Connell knew full-well that Wentz gave him a better shot at winning, and he wanted to prove it to KAM. Unfortunately, he underestimated just how bad that offensive line was, and now fully understands how great of a season Sam Darnold had behind it in 2024. Ain't nobody talking about the "Quarterback Whisperer" any more.

O'Connell losing Darnold was like Belichick losing Brady........he's just another coach. Don't get me wrong, Sam Darnold is no Tom Brady and O'Connell is no Bill Belichick. But you fully understand what I am saying. Without a functional quarterback, you have no chance of playing for anything important in the NFL. KAM, along with about 95% of the people in this forum are about to find that out.

Hard to lean on the running game when you stink at it. He'll never have an effective running game and now the passing game is abysmal.

Players put off surgery … ultimately its their call. But dont put him in harms way if he’s already hurt and seems to be getting more hurt and more ineffective.

You have no idea. You make assumptions based on watching games from a couch, with zero experience.

At the end of the day, Sam Darnold won 14 games with those losers in front of him and he deserved a pay day. He got it, so good on him.

I don't look at two meltdowns to finish the season as solely the quarterbacks fault. Everybody played a hand in it, from coach on down. Putting it all on the quarterback trivializes the performance of the Lions and Rams, who were both very good teams.

Difference being, my assumptions make sense.

First off, I fully admit that mine is a theory. Secondly, I'm not silly or naive enough to call a complete team meltdown the fault of any one player. Sam Darnold had one interception in the game against the Rams. He was 25-of-40 and sacked nine times. Anybody solely blaming him for that loss doesn't know a lot about the ebb and flow of football. Was there some missed passes? Sure there was. It wasn't a great performance by any means. But, one must ask ones self what it feels like to have 280-pound men consistently hitting you play-after-play without protection and what that might do to ones performance.

Look up the winning percentage of quarterbacks sacked nine times in a game, and then get back to me.

Darnold sucked ass in those last two games - when it mattered most. Anyone watching those games (from their couch or otherwise) can clearly see he shit the bed, along with the team and coaching staff. Bro was seeing ghosts all over the place. He looked like the Darnold that we have seen his entire career. Glad for him he got paid and I personally as a non-NFL GM would not have paid him. Keep in mind also that if he had been paid by MN, we would have had less dollars to spend elsewhere. And as reminder, this does not mean I think KAM is a good GM. I think he is terrible.

As for JJM and his injury, my theory is not the grand conspiracy theory and cloak and dagger drama dreamed up to fill a narrative. It is pretty simple: JJM hurt his ankle and they wanted to wait until he was 100% ready to go. Not 80% or 90% like most guys (on a good day) play at. Why? Because if he goes out there not fully healed and gets nicked again, then he has to go back to bench to heal, etc. I imagine he wants to get him out there and have him play through the rest of the season. THAT is what the whole organization needs: get him some reps and experience and let's see what we have. And he is going to do that starting Sunday and thgen maybe we can move on and STFU about all of this silly shit.

Also, looking back at our 2024 schedule, it was pretty easy. IMO that made the defense look better than it was.

Even in our two wins against a good GB team and a decent SF team, we would jump out to big leads with great play from Darnold and WRs. Then he would throw a dumb INT and let them back into it. To his(Darnold) credit, he did close out SF game with some nice throws. GB games we were just lucky the clock ran out.

QB JJ McCarthy of the Minnesota Vikings was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 9 of the 2025 season. He received the honor for his performance in the Vikings' come from behind 34-31 overtime victory over the Detroit Lions, where he threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for a TD and overcoming 10 point 4th quarter deficit to the Lions, and going on to win the game by a 52 yard Will Reichard field goal in overtime.
