The best thing for parity lovers to achieve their nirvana is simple.

The dastardly top 16 teams - the teams that make the MLB what it is - create their own super league called MLB+. That would kill.

The 14 bottom feeders splinter off into what's called the Parity League. They will be able to swap GMs, coaches, players in their never ending quest for parity. Hell, swap owners! And they can flip coins to see who will be anointed champion. And why stop there. Use a red white and blue ball. Hire from the Hank Stram gene pool. Make a HR worth two runs. What an awesome combination of the AFL and the ABA.

Eventually, MLB+ brings two or four of the best Parity League teams into the fold but keeps the riff raff out.

By default, if a league creates enough restrictions to hamstring whatever they want in the name of parity it's impossible to refute the ability to achieve that desired outcome.

And the restrictions are about leveling the playing field. Now you need to be savvy (OKC) and a bit lucky (SA) to actually build a winning franchise. You can no longer buy one.

Since 2020, OKC has picked in the lottery 5 of 7 years. Savvy played second fiddle there. And in the other two years the first rounders were just outside the lottery at 17 and 20.

SA is beyond lucky, whether it's Robinson, Duncan, or Wemby.

Wasn't it you who said a few times that it's really strange certain teams get the right ping-pong balls and #1 picks... suggesting shenanigans?

Up to and including this year, it's been tank and hope for the right ping pong balls. What a joke. So much for the vaunted cap and restrictions!

How many of those were their own picks? That's where savvy has come into play. He's still reaping rewards from the Clippers trade (among others).

They still have six 1st round picks over the next 3 drafts.

Sam Presti gets the game. He lost 3 rotation players this offseason due to the aprons, but he has a bunch of good value contract players to replace them.

How many? IDK. I agree he is savvy.

But you kind of made my point. He represents a small market team. One out in the literal wasteland. Savvy, smart, bold, etc GMs are key. That has nothing to do with a cap in the pure sense. It's very likely if a cap is introduced there will be a lot of MLB GMs who F it up and totally run their team into the toilet. Sooner or later the call will go out for more restrictions because the "GM Gap" just isn't fair.

Isn't that how it should be though?

You should have to do the work, and be better at your job to field a perennial contender. Its not hard to identify existing stars, the true test is finding the players that will become stars.

I want an equal playing field. If you suceed or bomb, its ownership/managament's fault. Not a financial advantage/disadvantage.

To an extent, yes.
- Soccer is immensely popular with the understanding there are big market teams. And those teams don't have is easy competing for the best talent.
- Formula 1 gives the Constructor's Champion the MOST prize money.
- The NFL and NBA are draft/QB driven and again it didn't make much sense for me to bring them up.

While cap instituted results remain to be seen, years of bombing, through any number of non-financial means, creates less revenue (tickets, merch, etc). That is the teams own problem. They should be labeled as shitty teams.

Back to the Brewers, which was my premise. Foregoing $9.5M to rent Skubal in return for a damn good chance at their first-ever WS win? How could a fan stomach that?

Still, the question is how equal. What cap floor percentage stops the bitching? Revenue sharing? Annual nine-figure handouts are in place. Draft penalties exist.

Do you support a 90% floor like the other sports?

"It's just amazing how in baseball any team can win in the postseason at any time."

Give me a break. Data shows top-market teams are exponentially more likely to advance deep into October. They are about six times more likely to reach the World Series and nine times more to win it compared to mid and small market teams over a ten-year span. Large-market teams can also sustain success more easily. They can absorb player evaluation mistakes, high-priced injuries, or bloated contracts. Small-market teams rely on small competitive windows before facing having to blow it up. Look at the Royals last WS team. That team was dismantled within 2 years of their championship.

That definitely isn't the case in the other major sports, that have the revenue sharing/ cap/ floor set up.

Ah, so I brought up the NBA and NFL but only as a response. Thought so, that's why I went back and checked.

And actually, I stumbled into those links about the NBA and NFL wondering what was with the Pirates. Google probably fed them to me.

Skenes needs to get out of there. Like Ohtani with the Angels. What a waste.

So Ohtani not only says yeah I'll play for $2M a year for 10 years but you better invest in players. And there is this:

Shohei Ohtani's 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers includes a unique opt-out clause that allows him to terminate the deal if president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman or controlling owner Mark Walter leaves or loses their role with the team.

He is the singularly most dominant and smart player the sport has ever seen.

twinsfan -> RE: General Twins Talk (8/7/2026 8:15:25 PM)

These guys have no idea how to play defense. Just listening on the radio, but Atteberry and Molitor ripping them up.

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (8/8/2026 8:33:47 AM)

Kaelen Culpepper homers in his major league debut and the Twins beat the Brewers.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Twins Talk (8/8/2026 1:31:38 PM)

Time for Jenkins also.

boydster -> RE: General Twins Talk (8/9/2026 4:36:27 PM)

Went to Friday's game. down early due to the defense. Cant give good teams extra outs. fought back got the win. Saw Kayelen get hit first big league HR. Following along online yesterday and today. Lots of missed opportunity's of taking two of three from a good Brewers team. There going today with over 200ks already this year.

If they add Jenkins to the 40-man, then he can't play in the minor leagues next season when there's a lockout. Something to keep in mind.

Didn't really follow the Savannah Bananas stuff. But I find it funny that Joe Mauer was wearing Loco Beach Coconuts gear when he appeared. What a rebel!

He has nothing more to prove at AAA......were you planning on going to Saints games instead next April?

I would bring him and another up w/o hesitation. Rodriguez, Mendez or Gonzalez. Martin and Larnach need to be gone.

Our 2nd or 3rd best hitter "needs to be gone."

Thanks for your wisdom, Phil.

Larnach isn't our 2nd or 3rd best hitter.

Buck
Jeffers
Bell
Royce
Clemmons
Keaschall or Lee

Maybe 7th on the team, arguably 6th and his defense is horrible. He is a strong side platoon player whose OPS for the 2nd half is sitting at .695

The Astros need hitting and didn't want him for Abreu

twinsfan -> RE: General Twins Talk (8/10/2026 5:19:58 PM)

Mets made a big blunder signing Jorge Polanco. He is completely washed.

Better than Bell, Lee, Keaschall and Lewis. Clemens, it's a push. Buxton has now missed a lot of time. As has Jeffers. Congratulations, Phil. I will now say Larnach is our best overall hitter when considering availability.

Is he starting tonight against a LH control pitcher? HMMMMMM?

Against a LH here is the lineup:
Martin LF
Jeffers C
Lewis 2B
Bell DH
Keaschall RF
Lee 3B
Culpepper SS
Caratini 1B
Kreidler CF

Against a LHP the manager thinks Martin and Kreidler are better options. [:-]

Kremer is good, despite his ERA this season. Good pickup.

That is all.

Martin went 4 for 5 with 3 runs and an RBI. I would say he made the right call...

So the Twins figured out that Kremer was tipping pitches and also raised his arm angle a little and now he's lights out.

The Orioles employ like 8 pitching coaches that couldn't figure this out.

One game against a bad team does not equal lights out. Let's not get carried away.
