He goes from this team is collapsing to Playoffs in two days.

This team is frustratingly inconsistent. They struggle just to get to .500. When they do rarely get there, they usually go into a swoon and we're right back to 4-6 games below .500.

I don't see playoffs in this season's future.

Heck I didn't at the trade deadline either....but they bought, didn't sell.

They've been better than I thought they would be....but they are still too inconsistent to make a run.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/2/2026 9:51:18 AM)

I will say the future looks brighter. Young guys are doing well. I found this year more enjoyable to follow than I expected. And the pitching additions were done well. It was an appropriate effort for where they were at. They didn’t swing for the fences totally but they added actual major league talent, which was more than they had.

A healthy Lopez would have been nice. And Ryan has had his usual health ups and downs. But every team deals with injuries.

The problem with this year is you can see the talent in Culpepper and Jenkins (on offense and defense) and yet they held out on bringing them up......it is and was a poor decision that will probably be the reason they don't make the playoffs.

Culpepper at SS is making plays look easy; things that Gray, Lee, and Kriedler can't do. Same in the Outfield....Jenkins or Rodriguez over Larnach or Keaschall.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/2/2026 2:51:24 PM)

Keaschall has to keep playing. He’s doing well. They have found a leadoff guy.

Totally agree.....CF isn't his def spot though.

twinsfan -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/3/2026 12:40:11 PM)

I was at the game last night and stayed for the entire game. Yes, even after we fell behind by 5 runs in the 12th. That's some commitment! Got home at 1 AM and back to work at 8:00 this morning. What a trooper. Very frustrating that we didn't win that...especially when the Tigers played with 5 infielders and 2 outfielders and we couldn't even make contact. Sad really.

Then get him one next year. All winter to sort it out.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/6/2026 7:02:46 AM)

Jeffers is on a roll. Free agent after this season. He’s going to get a big paycheck, here or elsewhere.

And good move by Shelton to move Culpepper up to #2 in the lineup. Well deserved. He drove in a big insurance run with a double in the 7th. A 2 run lead changes the complexion of late innings so much.

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/6/2026 7:42:22 AM)

Culpepper has really transitioned to the major leagues without a hitch. He had a great AB on that double, fouling off a few 2 strike pitches before the hit.

A good hitter with no defensive spot....isn't that the definition of DH?

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/6/2026 9:49:26 AM)

I reject the notion that Keaschall can't become a good fielder. His athleticism is really playing well in the outfield. He made a couple of really nice plays in right last night. He still needs to work on some of the finer points like wall spacing to play carroms, but that will come with time. Keaschall is not a physically limited defensive player like Arraez was.

Now less than 4% chance.

Matt,
You still think the Twins are making the playoffs at 82-80?

I certainly don't.

Too inconsistent. Rattle off a few wins, impressive ones at that, then go into a protracted swoon that sets you even farther back. Everytime they've approached .500 this year they've taken a dive. They can't sustain the success from one series to the next.

It's why I said they should be sellers at the deadline, not buyers.

and then subsequent moves made it appear to me that those moves were just to bullshit a few more people to come to games.

I love the Twins, which is why I absolutely abhor what they are doing from a front office standpoint.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/11/2026 1:17:49 PM)

OK, serious questions from a novice BB fan. Ohtani is on the IL and LA is calling up their top (one of their top?) prospects, De Paula, to be the DH. But his highest level has been Double-A. He is supposedly crushing Double-A but to go straight to the MLB? Isn't that rare? Anyone know how players like that have panned out? Why hasn't he had some Triple-A time?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Twins Talk (9/11/2026 1:22:44 PM)

Corey Seager was mentioned as a comparison. Read this about him:

Triple-A Career Highlights
Team: Oklahoma City Dodgers (Pacific Coast League).
Stats: He played 104 games, hitting .276 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Awards: He was named the 2015 Triple-A Player of the Year by Baseball America and selected as a Triple-A All-Star before making his MLB debut later that year.

So he at least had 104 games in Triple-A.

IT's rare but not unheard of. His hit tool maybe exceptional and he's still at AA to work on defense or There's a logjam at his current position above him at AAA etc.

If his hit took is deemed to be Major League ready calling him up to DH isn't a bad idea.

Ah, thanks. Good point about learning to play defense. I think that is the case.

He's done fine in right. I've seen a lot worse. That's a 'spot'. This man without a position stuff is nonsense.

His biggest deficiency in RF is learning how to play caroms off the wall. and that can be learned with time and experience. Other than that he hasn't been a liability out there.
