Two posts above mention a trade for Mac Jones. That scenario fits WRT to the lack of QB talent on the roster. Have they already seen enough of Murray to seek an upgrade via a trade?

But then are they hitching the wagon to Mac Jones?

At the same time, trading JJM doesn't really move the needle as far as the QB room goes. Bring in another boom/bust guy right now and things are the same tomorrow as they were early this morning.

Looking to the draft, the 3-0 start doesn't help in terms of massing resources for a top QB. Although it's not that bad in relative terms because trading up is so expensive to do anyway.

What people seem to be missing about Mac Jones. The 49ers QB is Brock Purdy, who is pretty good but has a lot of injury issues over the past few years. I don't see the 49ers risking not having a viable backup unless they are getting a significant return...meaning a lot more than we just got to give JJM to the Giants.

It would clearly cost a lot more than a 5th to get Jones. He's actually a functioning NFL QB.

If you meet their asking price, you're pretty much saying that you plan to resign Jones long-term as your guy. And that's pretty scary for a guy who is remarkably mediocre.

Herbert isn't worth the money. He's a mess

132M in dead cap if we was traded before this season. 86M this offseason.

After the 2027-28 season, it becomes somewhat palatable - but he still has a 71M cap hit for the 2028 season.

That's the issue. It's like he may help to salvage the season but then what? Signing him long term almost precludes you from moving up to draft a QB even around spot #15 because one of those expensive assets will have to sit. Plus you're down a pick or whatever for getting him in the first place.

One scenario: you get lucky and they take a 3rd and the 5th from the Giants. He plays ok. Not a world beater but not someone you want to break the bank over. You think we'll draft someone. Meanwhile the clock keeps ticking and Jones hits free agency. If the regime is ok with a possible rental, they might give it a go. But I think he will cost more than a 3rd and a 5th.

Or he plays lights out. Is the assumption he is the real thing (vs a flash in the pan) worth risking handing over big bucks? Because if he reverts back to being a low end starter/solid backup, you've set the team back several more years.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 4:02:26 PM)

I'd fire McCown while we're at it. WTF has he done as QB coach?

It's really sad how good "remarkable mediocrity" sounds compared to what we have.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 4:06:45 PM)

Vikings Territory was onto JJM getting traded before others....not sure I like all of their 3 QB options when your #1 is someone we have tried:

Vikings Territory 3 Vikings QB Options to consider:
1. Nick Mullens (Jax Practice Squad)
2. Will Levis (NYJ Practice Squad)
3. Jalen Milroe, Seattle #3

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 4:07:48 PM)

And it's done. We spent picks # 11, 129 and 159 to get McCarthy and two years later we get a 5th for him.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 4:13:21 PM)

Kevin Seifert
@SeifertESPN
Nolan Teasley on the J.J. McCarthy trade: We got to the point where the return made sense for us now to get an asset that honestly is going to help us in the future or maybe even this season.

Yep, Kwesi used extra picks to move up a spot because he failed to read the room and bidded against himself because Payton schooled him.

Tha, you, Odin..

Cut bait with the coward who is soo chi,dish..

He might do better with a different coach, but officially, KOC as “ qb whisperer “ is DOA on any roster.

If we go on a losing streak, say 5-6 games, his job here is gone.

We are 3-0. A Top 10 team and you are thinking about 5-6 game losing streaks. Come on.

Dan, what you and I can probably agree on is Teasley doesn't see a QBOTF on this roster.

What would you think of CJ Stroud if Houston's season continues to tank?

The teams we have “ faced “ so far, are a combined 2-6 pending tonight’s game of bears/ eagles..

It could be either a combined record of 2-7, or 3-6 if the bears can win without Williams.

I’m not crowning this team top anything until at least mid season, and given the cluster **** at QB and the completly dysfunctional offense under KOC, this is a pretender team 100%.

I stand by my thought that the next 7 games will make or break the season, and KOC will be on the hot seat if we lose 5 of them..

If we win 5 or 6 of the next seven, not only will I be pleasantly surprised, but I’ll get on board the KOC shopping cart, hoping Teasley can find a real QB.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 6:23:44 PM)

Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has an ankle sprain, according to the MRI performed Monday, and there's a chance he'll be able to play Sunday against the visiting Miami Dolphins.

"He avoided anything long term. It's just going to be about progressing throughout the week and where we can get him to from a standpoint of getting the swelling out and then what kind of work week he can have," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday. "But I was very encouraged to get that news today."

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 7:40:35 PM)

I liked McCarthy, but I trust in Teasley, just like I trust Connelly with the T-Wolves.

I like GMs with a championship pedigree, and will take their opinion over my layman, lame, opinion anytime.

IF McCarthy wins a SB with the Giants, I will be sure to do the same thing Brad did after Darnold won the SB, and not be as happy as I would be with the Vikings winning the SB, but will gloat that I was right about McCarthy, a QB that just seems to win 😂.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 7:45:32 PM)

Nolan Teasley on the J.J. McCarthy trade: We got to the point where the return made sense for us now to get an asset that honestly is going to help us in the future or maybe even this season.

You don't need the word 'honestly' in there.

When people throw in an unnecessary 'honestly' in a conversation, it says that they are sometimes (or maybe often) dishonest in conversation, and want to emphasize that they're being honest in this particular case.

But it's ok, maybe being a little dishonest at times is helpful quality for a successful GM.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 7:47:16 PM)

Kwesi did make a GREAT pick with Dallas Turner, did Flores play a strong role in their getting him ? Just curious.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 8:19:30 PM)

Case fn Keemun is playing better than any QB on our roster..

We are so ****ed..

He made more big league throws in one half than our qbs have combined for all season.

So you're saying you will gloat about your laymen, lame, opinion using Brad's posts as a template. The two scenarios are quite different but regardless, the only way that happens is if JJM watches the win from the bench.

There is a much, much greater chance JJM will instead be out of the league.

Great summation. And 1,009 days between starts.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 9:17:19 PM)

Wow. Now Keenum has probably made more good throws in 1 game than I've seen from our qbs in over a year of combined play. This is crazy.

They probably beat us in the rain with him. Quick and decisive. Williams wouldn't pull the trigger and had to run for his life all day.

It's refreshing to watch an offense with quick hitting plays that get the receivers the ball on the move. Kevin O'Conman should probably take notes.

beo -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 9:30:49 PM)

I'm remembering now why Zim hated him...

Has no fear of throwing the 50/50 ball.
(and occasionally the 30/70 ball)

lol

fun to watch though... doesn't hesitate to get the ball out

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 9:37:42 PM)

I hate the Eagles so much that I don't even care it's the Bears beating em

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2026 9:39:03 PM)

Hard for me to believe Mannion is an offensive coordinator. You just envision the offense will be boring after seeing how he played.
