The minimum thing the Vikings need to do is win the games they are supposed to win. They have done that so far even if it is ugly. The Saints game is one they are supposed to win. In the past, the Vikings seemed to lose games they were supposed to win.

If the Vikings are going all-in on being a defense-first team, a critical part of that strategy is to keep the other teams offense off the field to rest your defense to make your defense even stronger. Time of possession matters if you have a weak offense and a strong defense. Last year the Vikings were 30th in time of possession. This year so far they are 4th in time of possession. Even though the offense has not scored a lot of points, it has had the ball for a long time.

fmaltes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/9/2026 2:14:00 PM)

The Vikings offense is decimated by injuries. They have top-tier linemen replaced by marginal/charitably unproven players. This will hurt their running game. They have only one old healthy running back. JJ and Addison are hurt and even if they play they will be limited. JJ's (ankle) and Addison's (hamstring) injuries affect the greatest attribute of both--their speed. The other WRs are marginal or unproven. Also, Oliver is out so Literally the only catching "threat" is Hockenson who will be blanketed now that everyone knows he is Kyler's security blanket.

On a positive note, the Saints have a horrible defense.

I don't think they are going all-in on defense first, nor have a defense-first strategy. The cap space allocations to offense vs defense this year and next don't suggest that; throw in the hypothetical of paying a QB and the ratio could be quite lopsided. Although the top/key draft positions this past year were defense.

Rather, it seems simple on-field performance so far has led to the defense being good (although it has faced three crappy offenses and the Bears in the rain) while the offense is a bottom feeder (but went wild in Game 1 vs GB).

Time of possession is skewed high because our TOP vs Miami was almost 40 minutes. Take out that anomaly and we are mid-ranked at 30-31 minutes a game.

.
win or lose, if kyler murray doesn't look like a top 20ish quarterback on sunday he's gone...teasley will make a deal for someone better, not a huge deal like justin herbert or mac jones, but someone like geno smith or kirk cousins...we'll pay a 3rd for cousins, a workable running back, a workable center/guard, and a 5th rounder....

Why would the Raiders trade Cousins right now? They are 3-1.

Yeah winning teams aren’t exactly looking to blow things up midseason.

And neither should the Vikings by the way. The sky isn’t exactly falling here. They are 4-0 with stellar defense, and special teams and an offense that’s taking time but showed signs of clicking in the 2nd half vs Miami, despite some key injuries.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2026 8:32:32 AM)

Usually mid season trades come at a premium. Colts traded to frp's for what looks like a washed Sauce Gardener. Ravens just gave up a bevy of picks for a utility olineman.

Sometimes it's best to just stay the course.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2026 9:35:07 PM)

Saw some speculation about the Vikings trading for Saquon Barkley, and what it might take for it.

I don't like it, I would target somebody young, a running back people might be overlooking.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/10/2026 9:36:56 PM)

Right now, although that could change drastically tomorrow, the Vikings' defense looks like a better defense at this stage than what Seattle had at this same time last year.

Let's hope it continues.

it would be nice to see Van Ginkel get a TD in this one.

i'm thinking things are about to go south for the raiders, and that is o'connell's preferred choice...we shall see....

Things I've seen enough of already:

KOC cute plays
Prop #'x commercials (political in general, tbh)
the Kelce's

Who thought this team would be 5-0 before the season, put your hand up. Put it down, no, you didn't.

24-30, 229 yds, 7.2 ypa, 80% completion percentage. 1 TD, 0 Int. 51 yards rushing.

Ranking of QBR TBD but Murray is sitting at #7 now.

Guess you can use your post again after the bye.

Burned timeouts to prevent delay of game penalties and delay of game penalties (for the past 5 years).

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 3:52:41 PM)

I have to admit, I am completely floored that we are 5-0 and lead the division by 2 in the win column and hold tie breakers on both the bears and packers… so far…

Worst 5-0 team ever.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

nfrosty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 4:07:01 PM)

Great win! Good to see Murray getting better each week. One disadvantage of having a small QB is short yardage situations. We never try a QB sneak which is probably due to Murray's size. But what if instead of a tush push a couple of big lineman just grabbed Murray by the seat of his pants and threw him over the line. Instead of a tush push they could call it the tush toss.[sm=helga2.gif]

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 4:16:02 PM)

Vikings 5-0 start includes:

4 conference wins
3 road wins
2 division wins

They have a 2 game lead in the NFC North

After the bye, they have only 4 true road games left, plus the neutral site game in Mexico City, with 7 more home games

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 4:34:10 PM)

It's easy to praise the D and rag on the O. The ST's are an amazing story and why we are undefeated.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 4:56:44 PM)

KOC needs to be relieved of the burden of play calling. This constantl getting the play off just as the play clock expires is really getting old. Momentum killing gadget plays in key situations is getting old. The poor clock management is getting old. Bring in someone who tailor the offense to what the QBs do well and speed up the play calling.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/11/2026 4:56:56 PM)

Brian Flores Defense Today:

7 Points Allowed
87 Passing Yards
55 Rushing Yards
2 Sacks
2 Interceptions
1 Fumble Forced and Recovered

Told everyone to relax on Murray
Just throws a great ball

Night and day from that shit we had to watch from JJ. Actual touch

i thought it would be 4 to 5 weeks before things get going

I get frustrated when he seems to hold the ball... but it could be part strategy as well.

He has been VERY careful about protecting the ball... and with this defense/special teams that is a big deal.

I'm hoping by end of year offense is clicking to the point where combined with the defense they are rolling lesser teams.

We'll see.

Yeah, its far from perfect. I think the concussion effected him his forst game back
But he seems to be getting a lot more comfortabke
Scrambling is slick

He should run less or do it very carefully. He slides weird and is going to get concussed/injured again. He rushed 10 times, but 3 of those were kneel downs.

Have to disagree... Kyler's running today is what made the offense work.

I think he was very careful only taking a hit really on 1 run(had to, to get the 1st) that i can remember and getting down or out of bounds wisely on the rest.
