Seeing the beginning of some chemistry between Murray and JJ today? They’d had so few snaps together before this game. But Murray learned, when you need a big play, no matter how tight the coverage is on Jefferson, if you have the confidence you can give him a perfect throw, just do it and he can make a play.

It happened twice today. Murray hit Jefferson with a defender all over him for a first down. And the TD. Triple covered.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 7:53:38 AM)

Defense at ST carrying the team. Both have been outstanding!

Good they found a way, even with being a MASH unit on offense.

KOC takes wayyyyyy too long to get a playcall into the huddle. Either taking delay or using TO is weaksauce.

The trick play?! WTF dude?!

That TD throw to JJ was lucky. A good DB gets and INT there 90% of the time.

Murray scrambling was critical, but he had poor pocket presence often. Part of that was the aggressive NO pass run against our backups.

Wining on the road is tough. so, a great win and 5-0 going into the bye. Pretty wild.

PS - I will always root for NO and Sean Payton to lose. Always. So beating them in their house was very satisfying.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 8:34:30 AM)

My .02

Defense was its usual dominant self. ST money. Myles Price just keeps electrifying.

Defense held a QB that usually throws for over 300 yards to less than 100. Shough looked flummoxed late in that game. the first INT was part of that confusion.

Offense, despite missing Mason, Addison, and Hockenson moved the ball pretty effectively most of the time.

Fumbling twice in the redzone was the only thing that kept the Saints in the game otherwise the final score would have looked as dominating as we were.

Aaron Jones, warrior, Just amazes me week after week, this time bowling a guy over to get to the endzone...running for more than 100 yards again. It's not sustainable, and he did have one of the fumbles...but this team picked him up. Getting Mason back will be a big bonus but Jones has been a horse.

JJ back was big. The TD was a nice catch, the sideline catch was much better.

Murray wasn't perfect, the trick play where he over threw Bartholomew... That could just be an unfamiliarity with Bart.

Murray did makes some pretty nice throws, and used his legs to extend plays and move the chains. He can still be better and playing against a bad Saints D didn't hurt but he does seem to be getting more confident and playing/thinking faster.

Saints only had one real drive in the game, then Bflo and co shut them down. And that is a pretty good offense.

I honestly think without the two red zone fumbles we stomp the Saints to dust in this game. Can't make those mistakes. KOC does have to either get better at communicating the plays or make them shorter becuase this playing with delay of game and burning TOs is going to end up biting them in the ass later in the season.

I love being 5-0. I love beating the Saints. Now onto the bye.

SKOL!!!

I was impressed how Murray used the TEs yesterday
And Bartholomew and Yurosik with virtually no NFL experience.

Seems like it's been awhile since we've used TEs

He did it last week with Hock.

In general seems like we've been way behind the rest of the league in that aspect.

Just one game but Bartholomew looked semi-athletic.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 10:33:57 AM)

Cardinal fans already having regret about letting Murray go and putting their chips in Brissett LOL
"Maybe the problem wasn't Kyler after all"

Now looks like whey will ruin J Love......

It's stupid that they have a special kicking ball for field goals and extra points. It's ridiculous. Like these guys need even more help with kick distance? There should only be one type of ball used in a football game. It's like using a juiced HR derby ball in a real game when a team needs a HR to win the game.

So they should only use 1 baseball in MLB games?

You do know its not any different than a regular ball. Its just clean - and hasn't been roughed up the same way that the regular ball has - to improve grip and reduce slipping.

That's also somewhat incorrect in a couple of areas, ignores a large part of the entire picture, real world results are not as wonderful as your analogy, and your analogy is poor (a HR is a HR, but a long FG attempt is often missed or can be blocked).

NFL kicking balls (known as K-balls) are physically identical to regular game balls when manufactured, but they are treated and used differently.

Key Differences

• Brand-New vs. Broken-In: Regular throwing balls (used by quarterbacks and skill players) are heavily scrubbed with mud, brushed, and broken in by equipment staff to maximize grip for throwing and catching. K-balls arrive straight from Wilson Sporting Goods stamped with a special "K".

• Preparation Rules: Under updated NFL guidelines, Wilson ships 60 pre-season K-balls directly to each club for the year, allowing teams to condition and practice with them using approved brushes, water, and towels (without high heat or altering their shape).

• Exclusive Usage: K-balls are strictly reserved for kicking plays—including kickoffs, safety kicks, punts, field goals, and extra points—and cannot be used by quarterbacks or receivers during regular offensive or defensive downs.

The whole point of the kicking ball was to prevent the home team (provider of the balls) from working over the balls/scuffing them up/breaking them in... to provide a perceived advantage when kicking.

The whole key is if he plays like he did Sunday and 4th quarter of the game before he ranks out as top 10 QB which are both better than the Seattle QB.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 3:03:34 PM)

Rather than complain about it, how about giving props to whoever conditions the K-balls for Will Reichard! Maybe Will doesn't let anyone touch his balls!

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 3:08:52 PM)

The play from Kyler that impressed me the most was the scramble/completion to Deejay Dallas before the Price fumble in the 3rd quarter. He is getting close to the player he was with the multiple scrambles for first down.

The think about Kyler that I hated when we played against him is he has long, extended drives.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 3:11:42 PM)

Bartholomew and Yurosik with virtually no NFL experience. First glance says go with those two ASAP over Hock and Oliver.

Hock will finally be an upcoming UFA ($7M void as a line item). Overrated.
Oliver's cap hit is $10M for each of the next two years. Overpriced.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 4:19:56 PM)

The difference between the Vikings' #1 ranked defense and the Seahawks' 2nd-ranked defense is slightly more than the difference between the Seahawks' 2nd-ranked defense and the Bears' 20th-ranked defense

The Vikings worked out veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster today.

I have to admit, I am completely floored that we are 5-0 and lead the division by 2 in the win column and hold tie breakers on both the bears and packers… so far…

Worst 5-0 team ever.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mike Tice 5-0 team was worse

Defense and ST are no mirage. 3 parts to every team......just because the offense doesn't look like a 5-0 team when the Defense and ST are top 5......

fmaltes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 4:48:36 PM)

Again, the Vikings won a game they were supposed to win. They have one more "should win" game against the Colts that they need to win before the schedule gets hard. They need to be 6-0 and also at least get 4 more wins from the rest of the schedule to avoid a Mike Tice disappointing season.
The Vikings again are a Defense first team not because of a "plan" but just because that is the current reality/status. For this type of set up to work they need:
1) Good time of possession (39 minutes) The did this
2) Avoid turnovers which are a killer for this strategy (failed, two red zone turnovers) They were lucky that the Saints also had turnovers but this will not happen against a good team.
3) Sufficient offense. They did this against the Saints but they will need to be able to score more more (at least 17-20) points against a good team IF their defense still holds up.

fmaltes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 4:51:56 PM)

Part of the success of the Vikings running game was that KOC was forced to use Aaron Jones who is a good RB even if he is not durable. It was almost like in Moneyball when Beane traded everyone so Hattiesburg had to play. Also New Orleans defense sucks.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 6:42:53 PM)

NFC North point differential

1. Minnesota Vikings +45
2. Chicago Bears +23
3. Detroit Lions +16
4. Green Bay Packers -8

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 6:48:36 PM)

Vikings have allowed a total of 3 points in the 4th quarter.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/12/2026 6:48:58 PM)

Opposing offense's third-down conversions against Minnesota Vikings defense this season:

Packers: 3-for-12
Bears: 5-for-15
Bucs: 2-for-17
Dolphins: 2-for-9
Saints: 2-for-10

Total: 14-for-63 (22.2%)
