The number after the opposing team is my prediction for the ranked liklihood the Vikings win the game. The easiest game to win is 1. The hardest is 16. Note in my predictions the Vikings win some games they should lose, vice versa and don't lose any Pro Bowlers (AP, Allen, Winfield, Greenway, Harvin) to injury.

1 vs Jacksonville 1 - W
2 @ Indianapolis 5 - W
3 vs San Francisco 12 - L (closer than it looks. 16-13 OT)
4 @ Detroit 14 - L (blowout)
5 vs Tennessee 2 - W
6 @ Washington 8 - W (Come one people! We beat Cam and Luck. We'll take down RG3)
7 Vs Arizona 6 - T (Toss up. It came up sides.)
8 vs Tampa Bay 3 - W
9 @ Seattle 9 - W (We got two road wins last year. We get two road wins this year. This is number 2)
10 vs Detroit 11 - L (closer than week 4 but not by much)
11 BYE WEEK
12 @ Chicago 15 - L
13 @ Green Bay 16 - L
14 vs Chicago 13 - L (Cutler owns the Vikings, but he might have a hangnail)
15 @ St. Louis 4 - w
16 @ Houston 7 - L
17 vs Green Bay 10 - W (Packers have the division wrapped up and we have to win one division game)

8-7-1 Vikes finish over .500 with 8 wins. A trivia answer for the ages.

I would give you 2/1 odds on 8 wins.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/4/2012 2:11:55 AM)

Oops! You got me before I made a correction. The vikings beat Houston to finish with a 3 game winning streak.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/4/2012 2:27:50 AM)

JT2

"I would give you 2/1 odds on 8 wins."

The Vikings will be better than most think IF the coaches maximize mismatches and utilize player strengths AND do a MUCH better job making halftime adjustments. I readily concede this team could go anywhere from 2-14 to 10-6. That's right, 10-6. But 10-6 requires a lot of good fortune, much better coaching, early confidence that builds and good health. The talent appropriate to the scheme is there. Ponder throws a lot fewer INT's. The Vikings secondary surprises with a bunch of INT's. Unlikely? Fine. Impossible? Not at all.

The running game will be strong. The west coast offense utilizing two very strong TE's will create mismatches. The D will be better against the run. The front four will force quick throws. Will the secondary capitalize on bad throws from a bevy of inexperienced opposing QB's? That's my biggest question for the defense. We all know what the biggest offense question is.

Take it one step further, if both Houston and Green Bay have nothing to play for, the Vikings could ride a 4 game win streak into the end of the season and just miss the playoffs.

I am not as high on Houston as the experts are.

Many have them in the Super Bowl

I see Schaub as a big game choker

RBIrving -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/4/2012 10:14:01 AM)

Whenever I look at this thread, in fact just about every time I see "predictions" in relation to football, I am always reminded of one of my all time favorite Bud Grant "interviews".

Bud was corralled by a reporter on his way into Met Stadium for a playoff game, can't remember which and that doesn't really matter. He was asked, in essence, how he thought the game would play out and who would win. His response? In that classic Bud Grant dead pan look was.

As far as I can tell, the score stands at 0 - 0. The team that can put up the most points is going to win this game.

and he walked away. Damn I miss that coach.

I'm not high on Houston either. I do think they'll have their division sown up by the time we play them, with no chance of improving their seeding. Certainly don't see them as 1 seed in the AFC, just the best team in a dreadful division.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/4/2012 10:55:35 AM)

2012 season predictions.  AFC
AFC West
Chiefs get a lot of injured players back.  New OC, Good defense, I think they surprise and take the division.
Chargers, Will get off to another slow start under Norv.  Struggle to get back to the top all season
Broncos, Peyton Manning will help but wont be the savior.  Former Gopher Eric Decker will surprise many.  Broncos D will keep them in many a game…But they wont make the playoffs this year.
Raiders, will be much improved, but still sit at the bottom of this division.

AFC South
Houston is the team to beat, that isn’t saying much,  Considering the competition is:

Dreadful (Tennessee), More Dreadful (Colts), Most dreadful (Jacksonville).  The Texans won this division last year with a third string QB playing a good portion of the year.  That’s how dreadful this division is.  Now, a couple of teams might look better than last year.  But when you’ve got nowhere to go but up…

AFC North
Ravens are poised to take this division.  They just need Flacco to play better and they should have little competition.
Steelers are terrible on the OLine and getting old on defense.  They are also suffering some injuries to very important players.  I don’t see them competing much this year.
Bengals will regress, though they will be competitive.
Browns will be the Browns and continue to stink.

AFC East.
Patriots dominate again as Dolphins are in the 16th year of a rebuild, Jets are courting disaster with Tebow/Sanchez.
But the Bills could very well challenge the Pats…snicker…..Ok, they will win a WC, if they can avoid the injury bug that derailed 2011.
Wild card
Bills vs Bengals
Houston vs Chiefs
Divisional round
Bills vs Patriots
Chiefs vs Ravens
AFC Title game
Patriots Ravens
AFC Champ
Ravens

2012 Season Predictions  NFC
NFC West
The Cardinals will suffer because the QB situation will kill them.  Fools gambled on Kolb and will lose big time.
Rams are growing and will finish third.
Seahawks are gambling with a rookie QB, I don’t see this lasting long and it will set them back.
49ers division to lose.  They are returning all 11 starters to one of the best defensive units in the NFL.  They added receiveing threats in the offseason (their one big weakness last year).  If Alex Smith can build on last season, this is one tough team in the NFC.

NFC South
Bucs – rebuilding
Saints – missing coaches, some players…but will still compete with one of the NFLs best at QB.
Panters – if Newton can repeat his rookie performance, could be the surprise team of the NFC.
Falcons – locked and loaded.  Falcons looking to really pounce on division and conference.

NFC East
Radskins – improved, but not enough with RGIII this year.
Cowboys – If they can keep Dez out of trouble and with improvements in the secondary this is the team to beat in the east.
Giants will miss the playoffs after winning the Superbowl last year
Eagles – will shake off last years disappointments and compete, but an injury to Michael Vick will derail it all.
NFC North
Vikings are rebuilding but will surprise a few teams, ruin a few dreams
Bears still have no OLine.  Look for Jared Allen to feast on Cutler and Bears hopes fade as he gets hurt again.
Lions – will come back to earth a bit but make the playoffs again.
Packers are, on paper, the team to beat in the NFC.  But Karma has been giving them a lot of leeway wrt to the health of their QB for the past 20 years or so.  If Rodgers gets hurt, the Packers are screwed in the long run.

Wild card round
Lions vs Cowboys
Saints vs Falcons
Division round
Cowboys vs Packers
Falcons vs 49ers
NFC Championship
Cowboys vs 49ers
NFC Champs
49ers

Superbowl
Ravens Vs 49ers in a Harbaugh bowl and Jim returns the 49ers to glory.

And I start hating the 49ers again.

He's lucky he doesn't post on these boards. I wonder what kind of odds JT2 would give him on that prediction? [:'(]

RBIrving -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/4/2012 11:11:16 AM)

The Raven's biggest weakness is at LT.

Viking fans should get a bit of comfort, knowing that McKinnie is everything we knew he was when he walked away. A revolving door on pass protection. I find it hard to believe that Flacco will show improvement with no one to protect his blind side.

Over all, the AFC continues to decline as the NFC continues to climg. It's the way it works. The AFC had it's years when the NFC title game was nothing more than an opportunity to go lose in the SuperBowl. When a wild card team beats the best the other confrence has to offer, you know that "other" conference is in decline.

I'd give him 50-1 odds against us ending up with a tie. Last I checked McNabb is no longer running our offense. [;)]

In fairness, the wild card team also beat the best it's conference had to offer, on the road, and more soundly.

So, the Ravens release McKinnie one year after we do...hmm. Maybe our GM isn't so bad after all...

I rewatched the last preseason game last night.  Ya, I was bored.....This team has NO DEPTH!  In all honesty, usually I am a complete purple glasses kind of guy, but I just don't see 6 wins this season.  5 at best.  We are the weakest team in the division.  Even with Chicago's ineptitude we have to be able to out score them, Detroit will throw the ball all over the place on us and the Packers? Ugh!!!  Any team with a decent running game will mash the Vikings this season because our DL and LB's will not be able to contain the run.  Then....hello secondary gets sucked up to the LOS and it won't even take an average QB to beat them over the top.  This team will have to score 30 points a game this season to make it to 8-8.....JMO.  Not so optamistic.

The lack of dept is of great concern to me. The injuries you're faced with and how you respond, as a team, are the difference between winning and losing in this league. With a 16 game season, there will be injuries. If you're lucky enogh you won't have any of your elite playesr go down. Regardless of what position they play, depth at a position when injury occurs will make the difference in your success.

I think we have a decent chance at a productive season, 6 wins is a lot easier in the NFL than it used to be. Statistically speaking half of the teams that made the playoffs last year, will not make the playoffs this year. I see Chicage moving up, if they do a better job of handling their injuries. I see the Packers moving down, they had a dreadful defense last year and it was exposed in the playoffs. I saw nothing to tell me they've improved that defense. I see them falling. Detroit? They're just plain weird, who knows what will happen their.

I see improvement in Minnesota, not enough to contend, but enough to become respectable.

True....and I understand that preseason game #4 is pretty useless, however, some of these guys made the roster.  Some of these guys will be thrust into a starters role due to injuries....some of these guys are gonna kill us!  [:-]

Nothing compares to the dominance the NFC had from 1984 to 1996

Most years it was a blowout

Even in the AFC's run, the NFC still won some Super Bowls
