Ian Joseph -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/22/2012 10:14:55 AM)

I think it will either be a very sloppy game on both parties or a Vikings romp over a team that will still be hanging their heads low for giving away a big lead at home against a divisional rival.

9. I think we're not going to know what we need to know about the Vikings -- namely, how they'll play in January, if they make it that far -- until we see their 15-day stretch following their Week 11 bye: at Chicago, at Green Bay, Chicago

What's nice about that three game stretch is we get two weeks to prepare for Chicago, who we'll play twice in fifteen days.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/25/2012 3:43:37 PM)

Thanks, Ralph (earlier post), that's not nitpicking at all, you are absolutely correct !!! I want to nail the score, and get it EXACTLY right, so thanks !

Because I picked OT, I need to amend the score to:

TB 40
Vikes 34

I see the over/under is 43 for this game, I like the over, but even though I picked the Bucs, I have some doubts they'll put up the 40 I predicted, unless Freeman catches fire (my prediction is based on that), and or they get a defensive TD or special teams TD.

If you can (there probably ARE some Vegas casinos that let you bet it), I think that betting just the Vikings to go over would be a good bet. Combining the over/under with the spread, you get about a final score of Vikes 24 Tampa 18. If the Vikes over/under would be 24, I would like that bet, although 23 would be SOOOOO much better. Sometimes 10 casinos will all have the same over/under number, and the 11th one you walk into, will have it 1 point higher, or lower.

I think the Vikes will get at least 30 because:

A) They are going from a very good defense to a much lower ranked one.
B) They are at home.
C) Ponder has been struggling for several games, is due for a good one
D) They've been playing conservatively, and might be due to play a little more aggressively
E) Simpson should start producing, maybe get a deep TD
F) Teams usually score a little more than their average in Thursday night games (in past years anway)
G) They should be able to boost their red zone production,.... hopefully
H) Jenkins or Aromashadu, one of them is about due to score a TD

Angst.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/25/2012 10:39:15 PM)

I predicted a lot points being scored, I just thought the Vikes would get better QBing. I just have qualified 30 points WITH good QBing.

Rob Viking -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/31/2012 10:03:23 PM)

Tough game to call for me. I think both teams are very even though while they might be more sound overall, we have two studs that turn the game in AD and Harvin. Their DLine can cause our OLine serious problems, my guess is we will be more conservative in this game. Interesting stat, the Seahawks kick touchbacks 38% of the time at home, so Harvin will get a couple of opportunities, I think there's a 50% chance he houses one in this game. Our DBacks match pretty well with their WRs, Doug Baldwin is probably out and he's the type of receiver that could give us problems as could Tate. Their OLine is solid and Wilson does well not to take many sacks. However he's streaky and sometimes goes several quarters being totally ineffective. His games usually go like this; strong 1st quarter makes a big play or two. Then does nothing for 2.5 quarters and then comes back to life late in the 4th.

I see a 20-17 game going either way.

Tampa Bay took our biggest all-around weapon out of the game.

If Harvin can catch the kick in bounds, he's going to bring it out. He's a huge part of our success. He can quiet that crowd.

jim -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/1/2012 12:37:32 PM)

Unless the blitz pick up is significantly improved I see an ugly game and we lose 24-14. If we give Ponder some time I see a win 24-17.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/10/2012 9:29:21 PM)

I'm going to stick with my before season prediction and go with the Vikes in this one.

I think Ponder will finally play a good game in order to save his job. Peterson will continue to be incredible, JA will make some key plays (especially at the end), and some no names will step it up.

Vikes 34
Lions 31

JT2 -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/11/2012 7:25:33 AM)

Despite the Lions playing a little better of late, I don't think we should be a home dog to them.

Musgrave/Ponder open up the passing game without Harvin and we win a close one.

I think I said the same thing last week though.[:@]

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/11/2012 8:03:18 PM)

Nailed the Vikes score, missed the Lions by a TD.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/25/2012 12:00:04 PM)

Vikes 17
Bears 20

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/25/2012 1:32:45 PM)

Man, should have left the Bears 38 Vikes 20 original prediction up.

I read all the positive comments in here, and it influenced me to make the score a lot closer. I think 38-20 might be a lot closer, unless the Vikes put up a 2nd half fight.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/25/2012 3:58:01 PM)

Should have stuck with the original prediction, 38-20. An 18 point loss was RIGHT ON THE MONEY !

4 minutes of reading all the optimism on here, and I had the Vikings closing the game to 3 points. Gotta stick with my original predictions.

Turns out you can stick with your original prediction, because you didn't change it until after the game had started.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/25/2012 7:54:38 PM)

When I did that, I didn't realize what time it was, didn't look. I didn't have the TV on at the time, and wasn't checking on the internet.

So, o.k., I'll keep my original prediction of 38-20, which had an 18 point Chicago win right on the money. I just gave each offense 10 extra points, overestimated the QBs.

Rob Viking -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/28/2012 10:33:47 AM)

I think the boys play hard and give the Pack a game but just fall short.

Their OLine is poor but our guys are never the same on grass without the crowd noise behind them. I could see the Packers running 22 personnel (2RB/2TE) to deal with the pass rush. I am sure they'll use Cobb some in the backfield as well. I thought the D did ok vs the Bears and they were in the right position to make plays but alas they did not.

Can Ponder make the plays consistantly, this I have my doubts. Remember Ponder's first game he did well vs the Pack at home, but coming off the bye he was terrible in Green Bay. Capers definitely found some tendencies in his game. I fear there could be more of the same. We really need Harvin for this game, if he plays it could be close.

I see 27-20 GB

Deleted.

Rob Jorgenson -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/30/2012 9:56:59 AM)

Our only hope for Sunday is if Adrian runs wild, which is possible and if our Dline can get pressure on Rodgers. Otherwise I just don't see how we can win. Ponder is nowhere near the level Rodgers is and our receiving corps are a joke compared to GB. It could be another long day.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/30/2012 11:00:41 AM)

Spread opened too large at 9, several places now have it at 8, one at 7 1/2. IOW, more people are betting the Vikings; not good.

What this means, unless there is a late surge of betting on the Pack, it's more likely the refs will favor the Pack, which we sort of expect anyways at Lambau.

That means it's likely that if Adrian starts to make an impact, especially in the 2nd half, they'll take away a good run or 2 with a holding call, essentially killing the drive. I don't like the odds of Ponder overcoming holding calls on the road.

I will seriously be shocked if the refs don't favor the Pack in Lamblow.

Opening line at 9, 5 casinos now have it at 8, 3 at 7 1/2. Not good.

It should be a lot closer than this with Matthews and Woodson out, I just have a feeling Packers will get an early lead and never look back:

Vikes 10
Packers 34

The world will NOT end this month.
