NFC North

Vikings: 13-3
Pack: 10-6
Bears: 7-9
Lions: 6-10

[:-] Whoa!
I likey, but  ..... [:-]

After last year, it's hard to argue with the guy.

My biggest area of being unsure is that perhaps the Lions might only win four games.

PLAN on being undefeated every year (before it starts).

Although, in all honesty, my softball team went 6 - 4 this season...

We're planning on taking the tournament though - I could live with 9 - 4 as a final record...

Not a lot of folks willing to put their predics down on paper yet?

ruffenach -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/12/2013 8:23:36 AM)

I'd say 10 and 6 for Vikes. Same as last year. Improving Ponder. More consistent, but not a pro-bowler. There will be tough match in the central division too.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/13/2013 11:30:59 AM)

Vikings Bills.  Vikings win.  Early lead.  Barely hang on at the end.  Walsh comes through in his first clutch situation of the preseason.

geoffrey greitzer -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/13/2013 12:57:12 PM)

12-4. Offense and defense much improved

El Duderino -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/13/2013 1:53:57 PM)

I think they go 11-6. It's only a one game improvement, but the main reason it won't be more is because it's a very good division. It will be enough to get into the playoffs, but not enough for a bye.

Here we go.

12-4 ceiling 8-8 floor  11-5 is my number

We beat (in order of W liklihood)
Cleveland week 3  Not ready for prime time.  Could be close if the Vikings aren't focused
Detroit week 16  Unless the point is moot for some reason
Carolina week 5  This could be a surprise but I think we have ownsies here.  Different story in Carolina
Chicago week 12  Cutler and Trestman feud at breaking point.  This game pushes MT over the edge w his QB
Pittsburgh week 4  The Vikings are prepared for the distractions of a home/away game.  Big Ben crumbles
@Detroit week 1  Worried about this one.  But it's Detroit.  Come on.  It's Detroit.
Philadelphia week 14  Plenty of tape on Kelly's scheme by now.  Home win
@ Dallas week 8  Trap game between home games with GB and Skins.  We get enough turnovers to win.
GB week 7  First meeting is in the dome.  Peterson goes nuts.  Ponder duplicates week 17 last year.
@ Chicago week 2  Culter is as Cutler does.  His bad is bad enough to overcome his good this time.
Washington week 9  RG is out.  Cousins is no RG

The losses
@ Cincinnati week 15  The Bengals simply need it more.  If we win this one, it's a 12 win season
@ Baltimore week 13  Another trap game between homers with Chicago and Philly.  A 3 turnover diff will win it.
@ NYG week 6  Kryptonite team.  We just don't win in NY
@ GB week 11  Nope
@ Seattle week 10  Just played the Skins and left it all out there.  GB is next.  Nada

11-5 ties for the division.  Could win the tie breaker.  Vikings win any and all home playoff games.  If they got hot at the right time they beat anyone but Seattle, SF, NO and GB on the road.

So is that 10-6 regular season, and a playoff win?

You make them sound invincible. Time to go back and rethink these predictions Mr Optimist.

(less offensive if you read in John Caponera's voice?)

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/20/2013 9:04:59 PM)

I always make my predictions after the 3rd preseason game. I'm not liking the way the Vikes' schedule is laid out, and that's a pretty tough schedule.

I could easily see them starting out 0-2, so I agree with J that game 3 at home against Cleveland is probably the easiest win. I would be happy if they can just win ONE of the 1st 2 games. Anybody that assumes 2-0 doesn't realize how tough it is to win on the road in the NFL.

I think they have a decent shot of winning at Detroit thanks to the losing history, but Reggie Bush is the wildcard I fear can be the difference of winning or losing there. Hopefully the Vikes get Winfield back before this game, and hopefully he can help stop Bush. I think the Vikes have a shot at beating Chicago as teams with new coaches usually struggle early on. You might see a different Cutler this year, if he's found a good match at OC, and if the OL is improved. Hopefully that is NOT the case.

Ha! I was vascillating between 10-6 and 11-5, and apparently decided to go with both.

OR

We go 11-5 in the regular season and then lose our first playoff game :-(

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/21/2013 11:51:38 AM)

It is hard to win on the road in the NFL and division games home or away in the NFC North are rarely gimmes.

11-5 happens only with
a healthy core
a very improved Ponder
a positive turnover differential
a strong special teams unit
a little luck

probably in that order

Into my 3rd week of quitting smoking because of the electronic cigarette - vaporizer. Love the thing.

J Jeffreys -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/21/2013 7:21:09 PM)

Hate the schedule.  But the AFC North may be as vulnerable as it has been in awhile.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/21/2013 8:55:16 PM)

Vulenerable ? Pittsburgh is a well coached team that could easily bounce back from last year. Baltimore, especially Flacco, is riding the confidence of a SB win. Cincy is a playoff team, possibly still on the rise. Cleveland is a young team that could easily take a big step forward this year.

I wish the Vikes were playing a different division. The good part is, I think if the Vikes make the playoffs they'll be battle tested.

Ian Joseph -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/21/2013 11:11:08 PM)

AFC North is not what it once was. The only legitimate good team there is Cincinnati. Baltimore has lost so much, both passion and talent and is a big question mark. Pittsburgh is not what they once were and with Bell out until at least the middle of October, their running game is super suspect. Cleveland has to show me (and I'll get to see them live and in person) before I give them anything.

69in09 -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/22/2013 12:10:10 AM)

IMO The AFC north is average at best. The winner could be a 9-7 team.
The Bengals go on a cycle of rising up once in a while but they cannot maintain anything because their franchise does not value character, so they will quickly go right back down.
Pittsburgh is about average, the Ravens are in transition and the Browns suck and will continue to.

JT2 -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/22/2013 3:36:21 AM)

Value character? Wow. Good thing our franchise is saintly. Silly.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (8/22/2013 5:26:10 AM)

I think the Steelers will be stronger than folks think. I can't imagine Tomlin letting them stay down another year.

Also, the Ravens may be depleted somewhat from last year but Flacco will have the confidence to win games. Plus I am not buying the losing Ray Lewis is so critical. He was not a stud LB last year

As for the Vikings valuing character, I wouldn't go that far. Hernandez shows us we really don't know these guys like we think we do.
