I agree on Gibson, Pete. I've always thought he was overrated. People talk about him being a junior, but as I pointed out last year, he's almost 24 years old. But I still thought the officiating was worst in both that game and the Syracuse/ASU game. ASU basically had no chance in that game because of the ticky-tack calls on their big men.

So that Singler call was a foul? No way from the replays I saw, and that foul was HUGE. Like I said, I think there were inconsistent calls in that game, but I think it went both ways.

The Marquette coach came off like a real jerk for covering his mouth and chewing the ref's ass at the end of the game.

23 points for Duke at the half? This should have been a good match-up for them. Maybe Dustin, or one of the other Duke guys can tell me why Henderson WON'T go left? He really becomes easier to neutralize when you overplay him to the right.

Scheyer is absolutely choking. He's killing them. That and a quality PG.

On Henderson, I think he really got taken out of the game by the physicality. They were really bodying him up. As for going right all the time? Hmm, I seem to recall him going by me whichever way he wanted, so I can't help you out too much there. On Scheyer, his lack of athleticism and strenth were really exploited tonight. There's just no way he can finish inside with his frame. But let's just face it; Duke got out-athleted, outmuscled, and out-hustled tonight. And a lot of that goes to a specific recruiting strategy by K. 6'9 white skill players are nice, as is a Mike D'Antoni spread offense (you don't think K's been heavily influenced by him? I remember him implementing it in practice for the first time when I was there, he was really excited about it). But they don't win tournaments any more. I doubt Duke's going to win another one until K starts figuring that out. Those games really expose Duke's lack of a post presence. It sure would've been nice to pound it into Patrick Patterson tonight. So, yeah, a rough night. Duke loses three quality, quality young men in Paulus/McClure/Pocius. Marty is one of the nicest people I know, and Greg and Dave are great, too. It's hard to believe that next year's senior class is the last one I'll have played with... I was pretty impressed with Nova though--if they keep playing like that, I think they'll take out Pitt. Plus, my bracket in the Strib Challenge sure is looking strong right now.

[&:] Seriously, the guy doesn't go left hardly ever. I agree with most of the rest, but there was no excuse for Henderson's and Scheyer's performance. Scheyer had a bunch of great looks tonight, and Henderson was downright awful. I think they were a combined 4 for 30something from the field. Just an average performance out of those two guys and it would have been a game. I was pulling for Duke because I liked that match-up better than Nova, for Pitt. Nova's guard-heavy squad is going to be tough for Pitt, but they will have to shoot better from the perimeter than they did tonight. Depth and perimeter shooting are the two biggest weaknesses for Pitt. But I don't think Nova will have an answer for Young and Blair. Cunningham is a tough match-up for Pitt though. A little revenge factor for Pitt in this one, and if Blair can stay out of foul trouble this time (I think he barely played 20 minutes in their last meeting) I think Pitt wins easily (for them). Pitt struggles against a zone defense, but Wright is pretty much a straight-man coach. It will be interesting to see if he goes 1-3.

Henderson better be ready for the physical play of the NBA or he won't be playing much. I thought Evans looked really good in a losing effort. Hope the Wolves think so..

It's like betting against the Vikings, if you win, you're happy you won money. If you lose, hell, it's only money, and the Vikings win. It will be interesting to see what UNC does to slow down Griffin. Personally, I think he'll have a great game, but UNC will really limit the rest of the Sooners.

It almost has to be Griffin (but if we can't trade Al or Love, it just muddies things). But Rubio is the guy I really want. I'd be thrilled having a backcourt of Rubio and Young with Foye as the 3rd guard. If Brewer can come back and play SF, our perimeter defense would be lightyears better than what it is now, and that would take a lot of defensive pressure off Love and Al.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think the first pick (regardless who gets it) may be Thabeet. I think Griffin is 6'-9" at best and that may slow some teams down on him. Bryant Gumbel did a piece on Real Sports about Jennings. At the end of it he said that they talked to 10 NBA GM's and asked them where they thought Jennings would be drafted. Some said top 10 and some said NOT even top 20. Made me wonder how many teams are actually sending someone to Rome to scout him. Rubio and Young would be great. They'd fill the seats. I'm not big on Thabeet, but if they could work out a good trade for either Al or Love, I wouldn't be horribly disappointed with Thabeet. Love would probably have to be the guy to trade though. You're not going to get any offense out of Thabeet for several years. I know, this should be on another thread, but hell, hardly anybody posts here anyway.

I like DL's plan for Rubio and Young. And I still do think Brewer should help a lot at SF going forward. Still need a true C though. A guy like Przy I still think would be perfect. On the CBB front, I'm semi-shocked Pitt lost tonight, though Villanova is pretty decent. It's just a weak year for CBB this year IMO. "Fun" year but no really great teams. I look for Louisville to win it all now. Pitino's just a very good coach and they have the depth and athletes to take out the rest of the field I think. They "should" run all over MSU tomorrow and win big. But we'll see. And I still do maintain that the officiating has been very, very bad in this tournament.

I give Nova credit though. I would be greatly surprised if they reach the finals though. I lost a bundle tonight, but not gonna' comment on the officiating. But last night..... does Suton ever get called for a foul? I too think Louisville will beat them soundly. But now it looks like UNC to me. It's time to add Kemba Walker to the list of great freshman. Just think if UConn wasn't so stacked at guard, or if he played in a faster paced offense. UConn has a handful of future NBA'ers on that team.

Griffin and Rubio will be gone unless the ping pong balls suprise us. Thabeet might be available but he has bust written all over him. Aldrich sounds like he's staying in school. I could live with Evans if he's there. Doesn't solve the center or pg positions but he's long and looks to have some serious upside to me.
