Heard a snippet of a Coach K ESPN radio interview yesterday; thought this was great, talking about the team Duke had before Irving's injury:

"I mean, our perimeter was Kyle Singler...Nolan Smith....and Kyrie Irving. I mean, come on..........That's the most dynamic perimeter that I've ever had."

He's right; those are 3 of the top 10 players in the country probably, all on one perimeter. Duke would have been EXTREMELY tough to beat in March with Irving. Without him, they still can win it all, but they're joined by 4-5 others.

I'd be interested in hearing your top ten, in order.

Talk about overrated, the whole Plumlee family tree is insanely overrated.

How is Sully overrated? He didn't come in with Barnes expectations. And from what I read in here, everybody had Barnes penciled in as the #1 pick in the draft. I think you were one of the everybody's too, btw. Care to revise?

Sullinger is NBA ready. Very efficient, great hands, great footwork, knows his game. His skills transfer well to the NBA. The only knock on him is his lack of athleticism, kinda' like Kevin Love, but more refined offensively.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (2/16/2011 10:10:48 AM)

The Plumlee family isn't overrated. I don't think many people rate them highly as players yet. They clearly have the talent, but haven't fully shown it in games.

As to Sullinger, Barnes, no, I don't. Barnes will still be the better NBA player longterm. As for a top ten, I don't know if I have an outright order, but in some form or fashion:

Fredette, Irving (before he was hurt), Smith, Singler, Sullinger, Barnes, Walker, Kawhi Leonard, Marcus Morris, Jordan Hamilton, Derrick Williams.

That's 11, but there's no one from that group I'd knock out.

DePaul on the verge of a huge win. This has been a great game to watch!

Now Providence responds with a big 3 with :30 left.

Steve Lentz -> RE: College Basketball (2/19/2011 3:16:37 PM)

How about them Huskers!
Texas goes down.

Can anyone tell me who won this game? I was probably the only person on earth watching it. Always liked DePaul growing up, with their games on WGN (why didn't I like the Cubs though??). Knowing they were winless in the Big East this year, I was really pulling for them....and felt their joy when they pulled off the upset in Friar Country.

When was the last time Nebraska made the tourney?

1998 I believe. [:@]We lost.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (2/20/2011 3:10:53 PM)

Nice. Buckeyes lose too. Can Duke move up to #1 tomorrow?

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (2/26/2011 11:24:04 PM)

Congrats to VaTech. I hate that Duke lost, but it's easy to root for VaTech. Greenberg's a class act and one heck of a coach. They always bring a battle to us.

I like that the refs let them play; Duke got hosed some, but so did VaTech.

What a hell of a game. Had a Final 4 intensity to it all night. One of the best games of this year in college ball, easily. Sucks we lost, but it will help Duke down the stretch.

Coach K remains 8 wins away from Bobby Knight. If we can win out, he'll get 11 (Clemson/UNC/3 ACC tourney games/6).

Just on the obvious, Leonard over Jajuan Johnson? Are you kidding me? I'm a huge Fisher fan, and even I can't put Leonard in a top ten over Johnson. I'm going to just assume that you forgot about Johnson. It's an oversight that many casual fans make.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/2/2011 9:14:40 AM)

No, I really didn't. I'd put Johnson right in the next group though, along with a few others, like Jordan Hamilton, Alec Burks, etc.

I'm also far from a "casual" fan. I watch as much college ball as anyone I know. I'd probably be in the "fanatic" category.

What are you talking about? You put Hamilton in your top eleven, but now he's in the next group? Do you read what you write?

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/4/2011 8:32:36 PM)

Ha!

I mistyped. That first line was meant to say Jordan "Williams" (Maryland). My bad.

So Hamilton isn't in your top eleven?

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/5/2011 10:02:48 PM)

Hamilton is. Williams isn't. He's in the next group.

Though I should note I'd probably downgrade Singler after the way he's played recently. Pretty disappointing offensively.

Of course this is all very subjective...

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/5/2011 10:07:33 PM)

UNC played well tonight, and was aggressive, but it sure didn't help that Duke missed more open shots than I've ever seen them miss. Just couldn't get it done. Singler needs to step up more in games like this. Fouls on the Plumlees were very inconsistent. But kudos to UNC.

Should be a good rubber match in the ACC tourney final next week. And both could end up meeting again in the Final4. I see both advancing very far.

Pete M. -> RE: College Basketball (3/5/2011 10:29:43 PM)

Singler has horrid shot selection -- and it's not helping him get his shot back. The number of shots he forces or 20-footers he takes when he's not square or is fading is simply awful. That, a hot UNC shooting night, some miserable shooting by Ryan Kelly and others, and some poor Duke rebounding killed them tonight. And sadly, Andre Dawkins looks like a broken man.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/5/2011 10:43:06 PM)

Yep, Pete.

That FT sequence from him at the end was really painful/sad to watch. Love the kid; hope he can get it together.

The 3 wide-open 3-point misses by Kelly in a row in the opening minutes really set a bad tone. I thought we had them in the opening minutes of the 2nd half, but Barnes stemmed the tide and the game was never the same after that IMO.

Pete M. -> RE: College Basketball (3/5/2011 11:09:51 PM)

And what happened when "Barnes stemmed the tide?" Singler handed the ball right to him when Duke had a chance to make it a one-possession game (leading to a layup), and then Singler missed a feet-set, open three-pointer on the next possession. Duke never recovered. They need better play from him, and they're not getting it right now.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/7/2011 12:04:09 AM)

Couldn't agree more, Pete. Hopefully he can step it up again soon. I do agree with Coach K that he consistently brings it on defense, but the offense needs to step up from him.

And of course the Plumlees need to avoid foul trouble if Coach K's going to break the wins mark in Duke repeating this year.

JT2 -> RE: College Basketball (3/7/2011 10:51:07 PM)

Almost makes me wonder if there is some injury there with Singler.  And I'm not a Duke fan.  He was on my preseason list of Player of the Year candidates.  Last six games 2 for 19 beyond the arc.  Coach K said he wants him to shoot his way out of it, but I disagree.  Singler can do so many other things and they have enough (maybe too much) perimeter shooters.  Not in the last game though, Curry was the only Blue Devil to make a three.  Wow!

The lack of consistent paint play is going to be their downfall.

JT2 -> RE: College Basketball (3/7/2011 11:29:10 PM)

And how many times do I have to hear about Ryan's defense?  His clock eating offense is what keeps scoring down.  Could you imagine him coaching back in the day against Dean Smith?  6-4, final score, in overtime.

[&:][&:][&:]

True.

As for Duke, they definitely need to have the Plumlees play to their potential to win it all.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:09:42 PM)

Go UConn!

I actually really like Pitt and Dixon, but I want a 1-seed!
