Walker is the man.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:12:12 PM)

Heck of a college talent for sure.

I freaking love this time of year!

JT2 -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:14:15 PM)

I think some people are going to be surprised how well he does at the next level too.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:17:36 PM)

Could be. What do you see him as?

I see him as a Ben Gordon type energy scorer off the bench. He's just kind of a tweener with his size. He's not really a natural PG at the next level, but he's not big enough to play the 2 as a starter. IMO.

PG all the way.  Some of his PG skills are overlooked because for much of the season he was their only offense.  He really has great vision and is an excellent passer, but because of the lack of scorers on this UConn team, he played shoot first quite a bit this year.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:28:03 PM)

I agree with a bit of that, but I just don't see him as a starting PG longterm in the NBA. We'll see I guess.

David Levine -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:30:10 PM)

He's probably going to have to be an "Iverson type" of scoring PG. He's just so small, there is no way he'll be able to defende even smallish SGs.

He's got the ability to do it, he's just going to have to work on his decision making a lot.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:32:51 PM)

ya.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:37:08 PM)

Awful, awful final possession for OK State with a chance to win it. They should have won that one.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 1:43:09 PM)

Wow; Perry Jones ruled ineligible. Not sure I get that one, from the facts presented.

Huge, huge blow to Baylor's tourney chances, obviously.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/10/2011 3:04:45 PM)

I hate this kind of crap:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Jalen-Rose-criticizes-Duke-in-upcoming-Fab-Five-?urn=ncaab-wp113

Duke doesn't "profile". It takes intelligence and scholastic achievement to get into Duke. Jason Williams/Grant Hill/Shane Battier/Carlos Boozer/Elton Brand/Nolan Smith/Kyrie Irving, etc., etc., etc. were smart enough and good enough to play at Duke. Rose/Jackson/King weren't. And they're bitter because of it.

Well, that and the fact that Coach K and his boys beat the hell out of them in that title game.

JT2 -> RE: College Basketball (3/11/2011 1:15:25 AM)

Looks like Duke and UNC have a lot at stake in the ACC tourney.  Winner gets a #1 seed, right?  I love the conference tournaments almost as much as the NCAA.

I think he'll be the second PG drafted, after Irving.

me too.

and ya, i'd guess whoever wins that might even get the "3rd" #1 seed at this point. unless notre dame continues to look as dominant as they did yesterday.

I'd say Fredette and Knight will both go above him (assuming Knight comes out) and maybe Nolan Smith.

But that's also why I say "longterm". I could see him starting early if it's a bad team, but I'm not convinced he'll be good enough to start over the long haul. Should be interesting. I do think this draft "could" be much, much better than everyone seems to be saying. All depends on Irving and Barnes coming out IMO. I really think both will be great NBA players. And there's quite a few others with great potential IMO.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/11/2011 12:16:32 PM)

Miami is scary right now.

First that historic comeback yesterday.

Now up by 16 on UNC in the 2nd half.

Also, never know (even this game will be tough) but I could see Georgia winning the SEC tourney; it is at home basically.

And if they make the tourney (think a win today seals it) I could see them pulling an upset or two. They have the talent; all about putting it together for a game or two.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/11/2011 12:44:29 PM)

Sullinger gets about as many BS calls as I've ever seen one college player get.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/11/2011 1:11:21 PM)

And OSU and UNC both wriggle out of losses.

Northwestern and Miami both should have finished the job.

oh well

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/11/2011 2:24:37 PM)

And Alabama comes charging back to steal one in OT from Georgia. Grant is one of the best coaches in the country. Will be interesting to see what the committee does with Georgia now.

The comebacks in the tourneys have been amazing so far.

How do you think he'll be in the NBA?

He should be solid, not special IMO. We'll see.

He gets a LOT of calls in college. Don't think he'll get so easily bailed out at the next level.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/12/2011 12:02:30 PM)

Does anyone not think this is the best time of year?

Last night was one of the best nights of basketball I've ever seen.

Syracuse/UConn
Fredette going for 52
Louisville/Notre Dame
Vandy/MSU
VaTech/FSU

Just a ridiculous night of games. And that's after some crazy games earlier in the day too.

Can't wait for today's action. Hopefully Nolan Smith is okay.

Love the story about Maryland coaches asking ESPN about Kyrie Irving working out before the game: "He's not playing, is he?"

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/12/2011 1:47:17 PM)

Curious everyone's thoughts on these tourney bubble teams. Not what teams "will be in", but what teams "should be in" in your mind. I'll start:

11 spots up for grabs

Tennessee--no, most inconsistent team in the country
Michigan--yes
Washington--yes
Villanova--yes, barely
Richmond--yes
Illinois--yes, barely
Saint Mary's--yes, barely
USC--no
Colorado--yes
Virginia Tech--yes
Clemson--yes
Penn St.--no
Texas El-Paso--yes, barely
Georgia--no, barely
Boston College--yes, barely
Alabama--no, barely

Also, who should be the #1 seeds? I'd go:

Ohio State-win or lose
Kansas-win or lose
Whichever of Duke/UNC advances farther
Pitt

with the 2's being:
Notre Dame
Texas
Whichever of Duke/UNC loses out
Winner of BYU/San Diego State game

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/12/2011 2:03:29 PM)

Barnes is unreal.

djskillz -> RE: College Basketball (3/12/2011 4:55:52 PM)

Some of the worst officiating with some of the most mind-bogglingly bad calls I've ever seen in the ACC tourney so far. Let the kids freaking play.

At this same rate the Duke/UNC rubber match tomorrow's going to take about 4 hours. Uggh.
