LOL yes I will get the last word. Seriously I don't give a rat's ass about the last word. The team ranked second in the country going unseeded was without any question wrong.
Results after the fact don't mean anything. So we lost in a couple close games to Alabama at Alabama. Doesn't prove anything. Those results are almost certainly reversed if the Gophers were playing at home.
This BS that if we lose it proves the seedings right is just that. BS. This will be my final word so you can prevent me from the final word by making one more post.

Edit: Too late. Sweens currently has the final word.

TJSweens -> RE: General Gopher Talk (6/2/2017 10:43:19 AM)

I think the results of the tournament as a whole proves how stacked things are in favor of the host team for all the regionals and super regionals.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (6/2/2017 11:38:29 PM)

Nope, I get the last word.
Excellent seedings, worthless national rankings.
Playing out pretty much like they said it would.
No big shocker.
Until you win big games you won't get "breaks" from the schedulers of the national tournament. Duh.
Go into Alabama and beat them. Then you can talk.

TJSweens -> RE: General Gopher Talk (6/3/2017 10:03:13 AM)

I agree to a point, but the flip side is that as long as you have a regional format like they currently have, the host team is always going to get ridiculous calls like that extra inning sequence of phantom, hit by pitch and pitches over the heart of the plate called balls. Alabama is not riding a 32 game winning streak in regionals that they host without a fair amount of ... let's say good fortune ... sprinkled in.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (6/3/2017 7:13:44 PM)

Oh, you know I hear ya Sweens.
Until we overcome that extra home cookin, we'll keep getting the doors shut in our faces.

Speaking of home cooking the lower seeded Oklahoma swept the top seeded Florida while playing in you guessed it. Oklahoma.

Heard wrestling might be a victim of budget cuts.

Doesn't affect me.

But weird. Like Wiscy and baseball.

The old Lou Holtz move

TJSweens -> RE: General Gopher Talk (7/18/2017 5:16:15 PM)

Hopefully Coyle will be as successful with this coach search as he was with the last.

Mr. Ed -> RE: General Gopher Talk (7/24/2017 11:35:23 AM)

jamie trachsel is the new softball coach.
Had six years at NDSU before going to Iowa State last year.

TJSweens -> RE: General Gopher Talk (7/24/2017 11:46:41 AM)

Whatever else you want to say about Coyle, he moves fast. No search committees, no coach search firms, no BS. He obviously has a short list at all times and is prepared to move when he needs a new coach. Identify your top candidate - sign top candidate.

For the sixth-straight season Minnesota softball is headed to the NCAA tournament after earning the Big Ten Conference automatic qualifying bid following their third-consecutive tournament title. The Gophers will head to the Seattle Regional where they will face Texas on Friday, May 18 at 8 p.m. CT. The game can be viewed live on ESPN.

The No. 5 overall seed and host Washington will take on Boise State in the opening round on Fridday.

In total, 64 teams were placed at 16 different regionals on campus sites. Each regional is a four-team, double-elimination tournament. The 16 regional winners will advance to super regionals, from which the eight NCAA Women's College World Series teams will emerge.

The Gophers had a thrilling Big Ten Tournament where they outscored their opponents 24-10 en route to their fourth championship in five years. Named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, junior outfielder Maddie Houlihan led the team at the plate going 7-for-9 with two doubles, four runs and team-high five RBI. Along with Houlihan, Dani Wagner, MaKenna Partain and Big Ten Player of the Year Kendyl Lindaman were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Maroon and Gold enter regional play with a 39-15 overall record while posting a 28-14 record away from home including 14 true road victories.
