whew!  ............

drew -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2013 2:20:56 PM)

That was an unusual game. We were absolutely outworked, outefforted, outhustled. Our only chance to beat anyone good is to hope it doesn't become a halfcourt game, because I've seen better offensive sets out of elementary teams. Also, very questionable strategy by Tubby at the end. I would personally foul up by 3, but to pull all defenders behind halfcourt and let them dribble upcourt without any resistance? At least make the guy turn a couple of times.

I'm also in shock because we actually scored on 2 out of bounds plays in the last couple of minutes. But, I guess in the end we won, but no reason to think we have a snowball's chance on the road in East Lansing.

Good post drew
Covered what I saw

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2013 4:19:24 PM)

For some reason undertalented teams just give the Gophers fits. It's a hallmark of Tubby's teams here to play down to their level. I guarantee they will play a lot better against Michigan State.

I think I heard Lynn scream "just shoot the damn ball" right before that thing went thru ... good call Lynn.  [:D]

Yep, that was me. I pretty much figured we had thrown away the game with all of the sloppy passes and dumb decisions. They teased us with a good defensive show, limiting Iowa to just 2 points for the first five or six minutes (just a wild guess, I didn't look at the clock), but then let Iowa get on a bit of a roll.

I loved the atmosphere, and the Barn is a good venue to watch college ball. Our seats were in the endzone (do they call it an endzone in basketball?) on the end where we were shooting for the second half. Lower level, 22 rows up. I was fearing that it was going to be an unhappy ending until that last shot that put us ahead, and then held my breath that the defense could do their job.

Thank goodness you told him to shoot.

2 inbound plays that worked for baskets on the day. Some kind of record under Tubby Smith.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2013 4:46:40 PM)

Had not read posts. See drew feels the same way about the inbound plays as I do.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2013 5:12:31 PM)

Congrats on seeing a win, Lynn.
Not always a given in this state!
Knew you'd like the place.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/4/2013 2:12:32 PM)

Back to #18 in AP poll.
Only top 20 team with 5 losses.

RPI still has them very high given their brutal schedule. Tonight would be a HUGE win.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 6:32:50 PM)

Another scintillating offensive start. 6 points in the first 13+ minutes. Only 13 allowed.

Big 10 defense. [&o]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 6:34:52 PM)

Peach baskets a little stiff tonight, eh Ed?  [:D]

That old dude who scurries up the ladder to get the ball out .... isn't at the top of his game, either .....

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 6:35:41 PM)

Anyone see Michigans NEON YELLOW abominations last night?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 7:18:50 PM)

Stuck on 27 for a day and a half ......

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 7:44:32 PM)

Not dead yet ... Hollins with a big three
Down 5 with 3 left

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 7:56:42 PM)

Sigh. Another L.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2013 9:16:34 PM)

It's really weird. When we were on a roll we always had one guy that blew up while everyone else played their normal game. We haven't had a good game out of anyone in about 10 weeks. We try to sneak by with "decent" games by everyone.

How come Tom Izzo coached teams improve as the season progresses

and

the Gophers.........

Illinois beats Indiana at home on buzzer beater. Crean team with a big letdown.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/7/2013 8:20:58 PM)

I'm not saying Indianas not good ... but I find it hard to believe they're the best in the country.
Lost of good teams, but all of them seem to have flaws.

Most disturbing to me, is the individuals don't even seem to get better.

Rodney is a good example of this. Is he a better player today than he was last year, two years ago, three?
Super athlete and really nothing about his game has improved. If you can't turn Williams into a player, who you gonna' recruit?
