A few things they have going for them, hiring-wise: basketball-focused AD, not a total scrap and rebuild job, a chance for an up and comer to prove themselves in the best conference in the land.

Trying to be realistic, but the talk of Buzz or Marshall or Pastner is thrilling and only somewhat absurd.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 1:47:30 PM)

"I want to thank the University of Minnesota and the people of Minnesota for giving me the opportunity to lead the Golden Gopher basketball program for six years," said Smith in a statement. "Our staff did things the right way and will leave knowing that the program is in far better shape than when we arrived. The people of the State of Minnesota embraced Donna and me from the beginning and we will always be grateful."

CAN'T be someone still in the tourney ..... You wouldn't think

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:02:55 PM)

Strib poll on who pollsters want to replace Tubby

Hoiberg
Shaka
Brad Stevens/Butler
Anthony Grant/Alabama
Flip
Someone else

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:04:03 PM)

Pretty sure you can cross Hoiberg off that list.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:04:15 PM)

Talk bout fantasies .... Stevens?
That's winning the lottery.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:04:30 PM)

No on Hoiberg. No way on Stevens. Possibly on Grant (though his team is still in NIT). It doesn't seem like Teague would go for a guy like Flip. And Buzz is still in the Dance.

So...Shaka?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:04:54 PM)

Yep The Mayor would be awesome
So thats out .... [:D]

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:05:26 PM)

I can't see Grant leaving the south.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:05:46 PM)

I'll be shocked if its Shaka
Thrilled .... But shocked

I'm not sure he'd leave for any other college coaching job. He's too much of a folk hero in Aimes.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 2:16:49 PM)

@APkrawczynski: It's not Flip. I'm almost certain it's not Hoiberg. Beyond that, I do think most anything is possible.

And you know that any coach is coming here with the promise of a practice facility.

I know, this is 2013 -- we shouldn't ahve to wait more than five hours to get an answer on this!

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 3:04:48 PM)

1st thing I liked, no search firm being hired

Yep. Not surprising, but good to confirm.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 3:11:42 PM)

So no one hired yet?

Babu, you're in trouble!! [:D]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/25/2013 3:12:15 PM)

Her tweet could be right...said that there was an oral agreement. Could mean the coach is still coaching right now. (Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

I would think the only way Hoiberg leaves Iowa State would be for the money and the head coaching job of the TWolves. He wouldn't leave Iowa State for the Gophers.

I would be damn near comatose. I haven't lived a good enough life to be rewarded like that.
