Hoffarber with no shot attempts. We just can't have that.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 12:39:31 PM)

Nolen just doesn't seem to run the offense well...did he forget how?

Am tired of hearing

"Shot clock down to 5..." and Nolen is still dinkin' around.

I think he launched 1 three in the 1st half and then had a open lane to the basket and dished off like he was Mike Miller.

The demise of Al Nolan has been one of the biggest stories of the season.

But this team won't beat a really good team unless we're really hitting jumpers.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 12:49:22 PM)

Nolen needs to improve his shooting to be a big contributor next year. Joseph needs to improve his ballhandling.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 12:52:06 PM)

Improvement from the big men, adding Mbakwe as a big body...should be deep and pretty good next year.

Johnson comes back as a 5th yr senior?

Williams-gone...no loss...
Payton dropped?
Abu-Shamala...not really much of a loss

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 12:53:31 PM)

5 1/2 min w/o a FG....and they're still only down 8...

Every game lately they have tht long period that they don't score

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 1:03:16 PM)

Holy cow..didn't realize they'd bricked so many free throws....HUGE...

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 1:04:59 PM)

If MS was smart, they would let Minn win to make sure another team from the Big 10 made the dance. They split all monies and MS is guaranteed at least a #2 seed anyway

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 1:11:14 PM)

Johnson isn't quite adept enough to get separation to get shots off..too much time trying to dribble to get a shot of any type off. Needed a couple 3 tries...didn't get it done.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 1:11:59 PM)

So they lose by 8...now the wait is on.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/13/2009 1:23:14 PM)

I was actually impressed overall with this effort. They showed a lot of heart, and I thought they didn't manifest a lot of fear. One big thing: I was very impressed with Nolen down the stretch. He's really regressed through the Big Ten, but at the end of the game, he showed some of his early-season form in terms of driving and dishing. I hope he does that more, because that could be a HUGE thing in the tourney--and yes, I think the Gophers are in. With an RPI in the 30s, and a big win over a likely #1 seed Louisville, plus 22 wins? That's a tournament team, no doubt. The only thing that could affect it is if the Selection Committee decides they don't want 8 Big10 teams, but that would be a travesty. Minnesota is in.

The driving and dishing is what I'd prefer to the yo-yo-ing from him out front. Everyone knows he's not much of an outside threat, so let him do what he does best. Attach the paint.

I was going to mention the 14 missed FTs - but then I saw Michigan State missed 12 themselves.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2009 5:45:18 PM)

Congrats on getting in Gophs...good luck vs Texas

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2009 6:05:27 PM)

All right.  Good for the Gophers.  This is a real boost for the program to get back to the big dance.  It was deserved too if you look at the whole season and add it all up and compare to other teams.  I don't see how they could have been left out.  And the Tubby factor was just added insurance.

The commitee had a tough job this year and there would have been no such thing as a perfect tournament selection.  But I think they did a pretty good job.  For the most part it seemed pretty sensible to me.

I think Gophers win the first game.

Wisconsin is a 12 seed and IMO have an easier time to the sweet 16 then the Gophers do as a 10 seed

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2009 9:50:51 AM)

Impressed with the "high" seed.
No wonder they were never really considered on the bubble.
That Louisville win early in the year was the magic pill.
Tough draw imo. I think Texas schools us. Even in a down year for them.
Hope I'm wrong, and I will be, if a couple of kids decide to show up.
Westbrook and Hoffarber have to contribute from start to finish, or we stand no chance.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2009 1:58:28 PM)

It's not uncommon for a team to be considered 'on the bubble' and then get a relatively high seed.  You'd think that a bubble team would be one of the worst to make it and therefore be a 15 or 16 seed.  But most of the major conference 'bubble' teams are still better than many of the automatic bid teams from lesser conferences.

The team that just beat Texas and Kansas, Baylor, didn't even make the dance. Is the Big 12 that good this year? I'm not sure

Jason Dorn -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2009 5:30:06 PM)

How about that was fully anticipating another snub.  Tough road to the sweet sixteen, love a shot at Duke though...should be a good one against Texas, win or lose a good season.  Young team, this is great experience for the future and with Tubby could land a big time recruit.  Westbrook has to show up for the entire game.

ABU! Great reverse roll to take 7 point lead.

Texas better learn to rebound.[&:]

Travel on James, if that was indeed a travel on Golphers earlier.[&o] Same stutter step.....
