I see nothing ever changes with Gopher BB

When I was there, there was a huge player sex scandal that cost Dutcher his job.

Ahh, the ugly Madison incident .... [:o]

Remember that one. All too well.

The 2nd "Iron Five".

As lousy as that season was, the win over Ohio State is one of my favorite memories of being at the barn.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 8:52:14 AM)

It actually turned into a fun time, those nights when they toughed it out with equipment managers, etc ... the iron five. It was actually pretty cool.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 10:14:16 AM)

Yes the "iron 5" were easy to get behind.

Since then, We had the Willie Burton and Mark Jackson run and that is it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 1:57:47 PM)

Gophers suspend Dorsey, Mason, McBrayer for rest of the season

Pitino better be careful. He may be next out the door.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 2:08:16 PM)

I won't be a bit surprised if he is canned after the season. He has brought in multiple recruits of questionable character only to have to kick them off the team.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 2:11:56 PM)

Some pretty disgusting judgment from those clowns. And that reflects on the guy that recruited them.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/1/2016 2:14:32 PM)

A statement from Coach Pitino and Interim Athletic Director Beth Goetz was recently released announcing the suspensions will remain through the end of the season.

Statement from Head Men's Basketball Coach Richard Pitino

After careful and continued consideration, I am suspending Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer for the duration of the season. I believe this is the best thing for the basketball program as we strive to build a strong and respectful culture each and every day.

We do our best to continue to consistently teach, educate and serve all of our student-athletes. It's a privilege to be a member of the University of Minnesota basketball program - something as a coaching staff we do not take lightly and that we stress daily to our student athletes. In this instance, these student-athletes failed to meet the standards we have set.

I thank our fans for their support and we look forward to another tremendous opportunity for our team at Williams Arena tomorrow night.

Statement from Interim Director of Athletics Beth Goetz

Coach Pitino and I have had extensive discussions during the last several days, and I support his decision to suspend three student athletes for the remainder of the season. The privilege of representing the University of Minnesota comes with great responsibility and we hold all of our student-athletes accountable.

The program has embarrassed the school.

Multiple times under Richie

That's trouble. Big time.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/2/2016 7:33:06 PM)

Now Dorsey went to Bloomington police SUNDAY and reported the phone had been stolen.

Should be suspended for being STUPID.

Our guards are terrible. This will be embarrassing.

How is Wisconsin 2nd in the B10, but unranked?!?! That makes no sense.

Yes, there really should be a point where you can say, "sorry son, but nobody can be that stupid and be allowed to have a scholarship".

When you lose a trio of guards because they're stupid, it's going to be ugly.

You have a walk-on that hasn't played point since grade school. Yeah, terrible/ugly are going to be expected.

Richard Coffey concerns

When Richard Coffey heard the news about a pair of sex videos that resulted in the suspension of three University of Minnesota basketball players, he had a reaction not unlike many Gophers fans.

“I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t concerned about some of this stuff, and some of the things that have happened over there this year,” he said.

But as a former player, current supporter and the father of a Minnesota recruit — the Gophers’ prize prospect, Amir — Coffey’s concern carries more weight than a spectator’s.

The younger Coffey, a 6-7 guard ranked in the top 50 nationally in his class, followed in his dad’s footsteps last fall when he committed to Minnesota.

Through the depths of a Gophers season that has seen a 14-game losing streak and only two Big Ten wins, the Hopkins star — who just received an invite to the Jordan Brand Classic in New York on April 17 — and his father remained staunchly committed to the university.

But as the defeats have piled up, so have the off-the-court issues. Less than two weeks after dismissing senior Carlos Morris for “conduct detrimental to the team,” coach Richard Pitino announced Tuesday that guards Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer were suspended for the remainder of the season. The videos appeared on the social media accounts of Dorsey.

Last season, Zach Lofton was dismissed for “failing to meet the expectations and obligations of the team,” and Daquein McNeil was arrested for allegedly committing two counts of felony assault.

Amir Coffey scores 26 as Hopkins wins state tournament spot

The elder Coffey doesn’t take those sorts of losses lightly.

“It does make you think about the entire picture, yes it does,” he said, speaking specifically about the most recent suspensions. “I think any parent that had a son that was about to leave home, that’s very impressionable and is going to be away from home for the first time, living on campus — I think any parent would have some questions running through their mind about this situation right now.”

Richard Coffey said he spoke with Gophers assistant Ben Johnson shortly after hearing the news. Then he sat down with his son.

“I talked to him for about the 10,000th time about peer pressure,” he said. “About what’s right and what’s wrong. About being able to say no and walk away from certain situations.”

Interim athletic director Beth Goetz confirmed Wednesday that she conferred with Pitino on the suspension decision.

“We were in constant contact from the very beginning,” she said before the Gophers’ 62-49 loss to Wisconsin. “He ultimately made a recommendation, and we believed it was the appropriate action to take.”

Pitino originally said Monday that he expected the three players to continue playing this season. Goetz said Wednesday that they did not learn any “new information” in the 24 hours between Pitino’s comments on his radio show and the suspension news.

“As you continue to process things and really make sure you’re taking the right steps, it’s always an evolving process,” she said. “Keep in mind the decision was made in a really short time period. It was just about being a little more thoughtful and do what everyone was going to be a little more comfortable with.”

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/3/2016 11:05:35 AM)

Freshman Kevin Dorsey, one of three Gophers basketball players punished after a video-recorded sex act appeared on one of his social media accounts, reported that his cellphone was stolen from a Mall of America store days before the explicit imagery was posted online.

Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Mike Hartley emphasized Thursday that his department is dealing solely with a report of a missing phone and not trying to determine what role, if any, the phone had in the recording of the sex act or the posting of that video on social media.

On Sunday, Dorsey told police the phone was stolen the night of Feb. 24 after he set it down while in House of Hoops, an athletic shoe store at the mall, Hartley said. The video appeared online on Feb. 26.

“Somebody walks up and takes” the phone between 7 and 9 p.m., Hartley said Dorsey reported. Hartley said he does not know why Dorsey waited until Feb. 28 before contacting police.

Hartley said there is in-store video during that time frame, and “we are following up” on what it might show.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/3/2016 11:11:05 AM)

There has been no disclosure of when the video was recorded, but Dorsey’s family said in a statement given to the St. Paul Pioneer Press that “Kevin did not post any sexually explicit images or videos, nor did he consent to any such videos being posted.” Later, Kevin Dorsey Sr. declined to confirm the video’s existence, let alone that his son was in it.

I don't know. I get what you're saying, but if I put myself in that situation I don't think I'd go through the trouble of reporting a lost or "stolen" phone because really, who's going to find it? But once I realize that something like that is being posted from it?? You bet I'm going to make sure people know it wasn't in my possession.... should be really easy for them to pull up the call activity during that time and prove it if he wanted to.

Either way, it's another black eye under Pitino's time here, are there any eye's left? It sucks too because I really want to like the guy and the idea that he can keep the local kids here and turn us into a Big 10 power. I hope they give him another year and we see the expected improvement next year.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/3/2016 3:29:21 PM)

Does Interim Athletic Director Beth Goetz have the power to fire Pitino?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/4/2016 10:02:29 AM)

We are all that stands between Rutgers and an historic run at a winless B10 season.

Uh
