Does Interim Athletic Director Beth Goetz have the power to fire Pitino?

newspaper got a jab in on the ADept today. Not a good situation in MN

Actually took a jab at the man at the top.

"In 2011, Minnesota hired Eric Kaler from Stony Brook University to replace Robert Bruininks as university president. Kaler became the commander in chief of a large athletic department despite never having operated in the world of major college sports.

Kaler has been charged with making one major decision involving Gophers sports: replacing retiring athletic director Joel Maturi in 2012. He hired Norwood Teague, who became an embarrassment, resigning after revelations that he sexually harassed two female university employees."

Rutgers will have a great chance to break their losing streak today.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2016 5:00:52 PM)

Isn't it interesting ....
Every time an event happens these days, the powers that be tell you there's nothing else going on.

Bo Ryan.
Didn't just "step away", did we?

What is with all this sexual harrassment and rape at this University?

Perhaps the school should be operated by homegrown Minnesotan's as well as BB recruits.

Flat out emberrassing

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2016 8:38:24 PM)

We lost by 23 to Rutgers. Wow. [&:][&:][&:][&:]

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2016 8:41:17 PM)

''The guys that played today, it was not their fault," Pitino said. ''It is next to impossible right now with the situation we were dealt to score points. With Joey (King) we could play small, but his injury was the icing on the cake.''

Rutgers, which was coming off a 31-point loss to No. 2 Michigan State on Wednesday, never had to worry about this one. It scored the first six points and opened a 21-2 lead when D.J. Foreman hit two free throws with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half.

We were down 21-2 to Rutgers? OMG.[:o]

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2016 10:12:34 PM)

What is really disgusting is that it's not just here. There are allegations of sexual misconduct all over the country in men's athletic departments. Seriously, I am thinking that I might just hang up my support of men's sports.

Okay - I probably won't hold to that statement, but jeez, you don't see that crap in women's programs. Whether at the college level or professional I am so fed up with report after report of testosterone driven males that can't control themselves and who commit felony crimes while thinking with their small head. Richard Pitino's agent is the best of all-time with the $7-million buyout clause after this season or the U's legal team is inept. #Gophers

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2016 9:41:35 PM)

Just another side effect of not having a real AD since Dienhart got thrown under the bus over Clem Haskins.

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/9/2016 4:06:06 PM)

Season mercifully over in about 90 minutes.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/9/2016 7:36:25 PM)

And a 33 point loss is the perfect capper to this year.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/9/2016 8:50:25 PM)

Capper or crapper?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/9/2016 11:21:49 PM)

Apropos and merciful ending.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/10/2016 1:32:59 PM)

Head coach Richard Pition must be aware that the Gophers season didn’t go well. Gophers fans have every right to be disappointed.

On Thursday, the day after Illinois ended Minnesota’s season in the Big Ten Tournament, Pitino tweeted to fans and asked them to stick with the program.

In part, he said that “We will work around the clock to get this program to the top of the Big Ten and back into the NCAA Tournament.”

He also called transfers Reggie Lynch and Davonte Fitzgerald “difference makers.”

The Gophers haven’t made the NCAA Tournament in any of Pitino’s three seasons in Minnesota, but they won the NIT in his first season. Instead of serving as a springboard for success, the bottom seems to have fallen out the past two years, and especially this year, in which the Gophers won just two conference games.

Difference makers on or off the court?

The 3 suspended late in the year to return next year.

Is that a good thing? [>:]

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2016 6:36:02 PM)

It's a good thing if they somehow learned their lesson and will modify their behavior. I hope that someone, somewhere in the U system or coaching staff has given them some mentoring about that.

lylej -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/30/2016 4:35:00 PM)

Did they contribute last year?
After reviewing their progress, what does Coach P say?
Once a problem, always a problem!
