Pitino didn't make the 10 Semifinal list for Coach of the Year?

Wow. Biggest 1 year turn around of a program in NCAA history with a top 20 RPI and he didn't make the top 10?

Ridiculous that Northwestern's Chris Collins did make the list.

He's an ex-Pukie, and they've never made the tourney, so that's an easy one for those who barely follow it, but still vote.

Pretty exciting game in Northwestern last night
Looks like they'll make the tourney for the first time in like 700 years.

They've never made the tourney.

Thanks for the 1-star.

SMF was well aware of the joke.

But just keep darting around these boards looking for my posts, whoever you are. Get a life. Yeah, I know. Look who's talking. But seriously, F off.

That's ridiculous. Welcome to flyover territory, Richard. They don't know we exist.

Maryland's win over Michigan St. means even if the Gophers lose tomorrow they have the No. 4 seed and the double-bye in the Big Ten tourney.

Double Bye is a good thing I think. Only problem is we aren't handed one easy victory in the tournament that we would have got from the 5 slot. Now just win against Wisky today and is the second seed ours?

It's OK. A win over a bad team isn't gonna help our NCAA seeding one bit. Whereas an upset loss could definitely hurt our seeding. I'll take the double bye, thank you.

Easily. A little rest is a good thing this time of year.

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2017 7:20:14 PM)

flat second half, and wisconsin shoots better, wins easily.

bstinger -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/5/2017 9:03:16 PM)

Disappointing effort in the 2nd half. Way too many rushed/contested shots when an extra pass or two could've gotten something better. Whistles were pretty silent on the contested drives or put back opportunities as expected. It looked like we expected calls too often and they weren't made, so empty trips resulted. Still a very fine regular season from this group. A huge surprise. Would be nice to win at least 1 in the B10 Tourney and 2 in the Big Dance.

Brad H -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/6/2017 7:45:41 AM)

The Gophers will go further in the tournament than the Badgers. Way more athletic and once you get out of the Big Ten and their ridiculous refs, the Gopher style is more akin to the NCAA Tournament and the way the games will be reffed. The Gophers looked a bit tired. Lots of shots hitting the front of the rim, which is usually a sign of tired legs. They'll be fine. Wisconsin can't make a FT. That alone will keep them from going very far in any tournament.

4 Seed Minnesota (23-8, 11-7) vs. Michigan State/Nebraska/Penn State winner 2:30pm, ESPNFriday March 10

MSU scares me.

Time to start a new streak....good time to lose.
We will have to face a good team no matter what in that game.....Purdue, Wisconsin, Maryland, Northwestern plus the buble teams (Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan) plus Indiana is going to try to win out.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/6/2017 8:50:36 AM)

It would have been a very nice win. But it really was inconsequential. It won't hurt them RPI-wise, and they still got the double bye in the Big Ten tournament. Gives them a chance to regroup, refocus and come out strong. They lost a little bit of their mojo there in the second half. But they can get it back again.

Big Ten Tournament means nothing to me. It's nothing but a money grab. The Gophers are in the NCAA Tournament, which is the only thing that matters.

It doesn't mean much more to me. But as long as you have top be in it, t's nice to be one of the top 4 and not have to play that extra game or two. We don't need extra games at this time of year.

I would rather make the sweet 16 which the Gophers can do if they get a 5-6 seed....going to be tough with a 7-8 seed.

That's why we need to g0 deep in B1N tourney benefits us seeding wise for the big dance.

According to Bracketology, we are currently a 5 seed:

Talk about shitting the bed. A 20 point second half to keep our losing streak against Wisconsin intact and get the 4th seed instead of the second.

It's not inconsequential considering how humiliating it is to lose to Bucky again and again and again and again. [X(]

That's only in play if we win our first game in the Big 10 Tourney. Win one we hold on to that win two or 3 we can move up.

Gophers Center Reggie Lynch Named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year

It was announced on Monday that Minnesota Gophers Junior Center Reggie Lynch has been named the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.

Lynch, an Edina native, averaged 8.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while showing off his defensive prowess by averaging an astounding team-high 3.5 blocks per game.

The Gophers center sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules but came back stronger than ever this season in helping lead Minnesota to their best Big 10 finish (4th) in 12 years.
