Purdue's Swanigan is Big Ten Player of Year and selected first-team All-American by USA Today, Sporting News and NBC Sports.

This guy is listed at 6'9" 250 lbs. He looks way bigger and taller than that.

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/6/2017 10:27:40 PM)

Pitino coach/year, and Mason 1st team all-conference.

Jordan Murphy Named 3rd Team All-B1G

Amir Coffey Named to All-Freshman Team

This is the first time a Minnesota coach was name B1G COY since Clem Haskins in 1997, or if you prefer the NCAA wayback machine, since Jim Dutcher in 1982.

Give him a pay raise and quick.

According to Bracketology, we are currently a 5 seed:
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology

That's only in play if we win our first game in the Big 10 Tourney. Win one we hold on to that win two or 3 we can move up.

Obivously KG...

How about he repeats this year's success again next year.

They're getting a new practice facility, too.

I would lock him up now:

2016 Coffey, Curry top 100 recruit
2017 Washington top 100 recruit
2018 Oturo top 60 recruit

He isn't quite like Izzo who gets 3-4 top 100's but Pitino has recruited transfers (Lynch, Springs, Fitzgerald), International (Konate), and hidden gems that were not rated quite as high (Muryhy, Mason).

I think he has done a great job.

THIS year

Last year? He was lucky to not get fired.

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 9:10:13 AM)

Let's not forget that he is also coming off an epically bad year. He has had spotty success recruiting some great D1 talent in his own state. Coffey and Oturu stand as his only in state victories so far. I'm not saying don't revisit his contract, I'm just saying be very careful about it.

Phil Riewer -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:04:12 AM)

Ed and Sweens must like Musselman...lol

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:14:15 AM)

I wanted Shaka Smart.

That is working out so well in TX, 10-21 this year.

Phil Riewer -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:15:09 AM)

Just Saying (Before outside contracts/Bonuses):
Izzo $3.4
Beilen $3.3
Motta $3.2
Crean $3.05
Painter $2.5
Turgeon $2.5
McCaffery $1.8
Groce $1.8
Miles $1.7
Collins $1.7
Pitino $1.6
Jordan $1.1
Chambers .9

He is still toward the bottom even after a 400k raise.

Hey, my introduction to Gopher hoops was Mussy ball, complete with the Harlem Globetrotters pregame warm up. Other than that hideous brawl, those were good times.

SoMnFan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:26:53 AM)

About time for some scorned old bag to step forward and take credit for some poor kids mid-term paper.
Followed by the NCAA making an example of us out behind the woodshed.
Because success here is cheating.
Success in the preferred places is about hard work and class.
Yeah.
Right.

Greatest era in gopher sports.
We were actual legit programs.
And the Brawl changed so many things.
Sad.

I think I read it on Gopher Hole Sweens....Muss is doing really well in Nevada after struggling a bit in the NBA.

I know the AD from that era personally. Let's just say Clem was insulated from any oversight by the AD, until everything blew up. Clem resigned, said AD was thrown under the bus and those who insulated Clem from him got promoted. The U got what it deserved in that instance.

I know Ed---lol...Bill died quite a few years ago and was already quite old when he was TWolves coach. His son was quite young when he was an NBA coach. Surprised Eric is 52 now? [:-]

I didn't realize Winfield was a Freshman and somehow involved in the brawl...I wasn't even 1 yet when it happened....lol

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:40:56 AM)

Muss Sr had the distinction of being fired my Marv and Harv for winning too much.

SoMnFan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/7/2017 10:43:26 AM)

Big Dave was probably one if the worst offenders that night.
He's very lucky it wasn't the cellphone camera era.
Embarassed himself and his school. Lots of cheap shots.
It wasn't a fight, it was a "jump" and we had a lot of "jumpers"
A case of fervor overtaking a program and young men losing total control of their sense of right and wrong. IMO

There was one cop in the building with over 17k fans...wow.
