Gopher men squeaked one out against a Penn State team with an awful record. They looked better than us most of them game but we prevailed despite some sketchy calls. This team needs some work. The offensive sets are stagnant.

And the crowd and the coach's giddiness afterwards were weird.
That was a winless in the B10 team you just struggled to overcome.
Zero offensive ability in this team most nights.

Watching on tape, almost halfway through 1st half. Looking decent against #5 Michigan. Seem much more aggressive early than I've seen in a while. Michigan missing a lot of shots early is helping.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/22/2019 7:52:48 PM)

Lead gone with 5 min left in 1st half. Offense needs to awaken. Let them hang around when they were ice cold.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/22/2019 9:26:58 PM)

Gopher's sucking early in the 2nd. Down 11.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/22/2019 9:30:04 PM)

Lazy Gopher's being out-hustled by the Wolverines. Inexcusable.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/22/2019 9:45:26 PM)

10-0 run to tie it with 24 ticks to go. [:-]

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/22/2019 9:48:28 PM)

Last second loss sucks, but we didn't play well enough to win.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/23/2019 4:55:33 PM)

Fun game.

I. Washington drives me crazy.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/24/2019 7:22:29 AM)

Last few minutes of every game .... "they're not going to let him lose this one, too, are they?"
End of game ...... "yup"

Please find a guy you trust at the end of games.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 5:09:07 PM)

Gus are shooting the lights out today and effectively attacking the Iowa zone. 55 pts at halftime is unheard of for us. Need to get more stops on the defensive end though as Iowa is still close. Stockman having a nice game in limited minutes. Washington hitting his shots. Pretty much everyone I can think of contributed well.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 5:15:28 PM)

Coffey having a great game.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 5:50:53 PM)

We've let Iowa back into the game a few times now. Too many turnovers.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 5:59:22 PM)

A loss here would be very painful. We suck at free throws.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 6:12:38 PM)

Held on for the win. Finally made some FTs. Does not feel like we're ready for primetime.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/27/2019 10:12:55 PM)

We definitely let that get too close, but it was nice to see them hang on. Surprising in this state... [&o]

We need a legit PG to help break presses and zones, although we did improve against the zones, especially in the first half. Need to improve the FT's. There is a lot of talent on this team, but are missing a piece or two to make a real run. Coffey needs to get aggressive and take over games and be the star more often. When he gets on a roll he's the best player on the floor, he just seems too timid sometimes. Murphy has a lot of heart and talent, but he's a few inches too short to defend big guys like he faced today. We missed Oturu today, at least defensively, Curry didn't have a great game, at least not statistically. McBrayer didn't score much, but he did have a decent floor game with a lot of good assists.

We need to find a way to get this kind of effort to travel. There is a stark difference between the team at home and the team on the road and we half to get some road wins.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/28/2019 10:02:40 AM)

They played really well at Michigan but to no avail--that would have been a big W.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/30/2019 4:55:14 PM)

Big one tonight vs Illinois. It's payback time.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/30/2019 9:01:11 PM)

Isaiah Washington is actually doing some nice things. Let him play point most of the 2nd half.

Down by 2 at halftime.

Gonna be a tight one. I really do like this Illinois team.

LEN is bothering me...wearing his bright orange hoodie behind the basket. I think he has a press pass around his neck. DUDE, you're not a basketball writer!!

Go Gophers!

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/30/2019 10:24:49 PM)

Nice job to pull away in the 2nd half for a fairly comfortable win.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/31/2019 7:33:20 AM)

This team makes no sense.
Seem strong and confident at the Barn
Seem weak and unsure on the road.
Fix it.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/31/2019 8:25:41 AM)

Really fun game. Isaiah Washington at the point for at least 25 minutes per game would be ideal.

The first 25 please

Shouldn't lose to a team by a thousand, then come back and beat them by ten a couple weeks later.

Are we on track to make the Tourney?

Are we on track to make the Tourney?

The commentators in the last game said we were currently in, that was before the win. We do have some bad losses on the resume though, so we're close to the edge. Need to keep winning and beating some good teams. The schedule isn't easy by any means.

10 games - 4 at home 6 on the road, 6 against ranked teams, (3 home, 3 away).

As SMF stated, we need to play better on the road and steal a couple.

We are currently 6-4. If we finish the 10 games 5-5 we should make it regardless of the B10 tourney, especially if we get a couple more wins against ranked teams.
