MINNEAPOLIS -- Amir Coffey matched his career with 32 points, making two free throws with 2.5 seconds left Tuesday night to seal Minnesota's 73-69 victory over No. 11 Purdue to give the Gophers a big boost for an NCAA Tournament berth and spoil the Boilermakers' bid for an outright Big Ten title.

Stockman >>> Curry

I thought that earlier in the year and tonight confirmed it. We'd have won more with him getting Curry's minutes.

If Curry was healthy it wouldn't be close but damn injuries.

Sure, but even at his best this year with the brace he athleticism was very limited. I give him credit for trying but Pitino should've seen the difference between the 2 and played Stockman more.

Also, this team will go where Coffey takes them. If he shows up and plays well we can beat just about anybody.

Nice win!

I only remember 1-2 games where Coffey and/or Murphy didn't play well. Gabe shot the lights out to win. Coffey and Murphy both play well we win.

Tough thing going into the tourney for the Gophers is the depth. It would have really helped to have Carr.

Coffey was not good again today until garbage time. However it certainly wasn't all his fault, no one had a great game. Maryland is stacked with Athletes, a tough match-up physically for us in many ways.

As for his season, I submit to you, for evidence, his stats from ESPN. Plenty more than 2 games where he didn't break double figures. I count 6 and 5 of the were L's. The other was a blow-out non-conference win. He also scored 11 3 times in B10 play and we lost 2 out of 3 of those games. That is 7 L's where he didn't play well, at least not scoring near what should be his average. We need at least 20 per game from him. Not 30+ one night and 10 the next.

WOW no mention of the win over Penn State in the B1G tourney. Needed a late 8 point comeback to send the game to OT. Get Purdue today.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 7:40:47 AM)

I watched "on tape" so didn't come in here.

We didn't look good most of the game but turned it on at the end to reach OT. Coffey struggled with his shot but got to the line and made 10 out of 11, many of them in OT. Game was won at the line with the Gophers outscoring the Nittany Lions 24 to 8 there. We were 3/11 from 3. That needs to improve. Our lack of bench is going to be a factor. I don't know why Washington has been banished from the court. He wasn't great, but a few minutes of rest for the back court might help them.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 8:35:00 AM)

Penn St. wouldn't let Gabe take a breath when he had the ball---basically our main shooter if Coffey is handling the ball. Funny Pitino didn't have Gabe handle it more then to free up Coffey.....McBrayer had a very good game.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 10:38:02 AM)

Also I don't understand why Pitino loves those short PGs....almost all of them have a 2-3 year adjustment due to size....Cobbs is the perfect example. 2 years year and he was okay, one transfer year and he is a stud last 2 years in the PAC. Thing is Cobbs is 6'3", Isiah is maybe 6'0"

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 3:45:41 PM)

That should punch their ticket to the NCAA, right? I figured they were probably in anyway, but this removes doubt.

Still an upset over Purdue would be nice to maybe move up a seed or two. Right now they may end up an 8 or 9. That means an evenly matched first game, and playing a #1 in the second game.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 3:48:58 PM)

It sounds like this puts them in though, for the life of me, I don't understand why. This is not a NCAA tournament team IMO. I doubt they could make a good run in the NIT.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 4:44:18 PM)

They’re basically a two man team right now. Coffey and Murphy are legit talents. But they have nothing else going for them right now.

Those two could get hot enough for a round one win, depending on matchup. But then they’ll get drilled.

3-11 from 3 is bad but make one more and it's fine.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2019 8:12:16 PM)

So they effed it up for Purdue. Definitely in the tournament now? Regardless of flaws?

Yea, so make 1 more and I won't mention it. [&o]

Minnesota Owns Purdue. WOW. Yes they are now definitely in and will likely get a top eight seed making them a first round favorite. Is it two more wins to B1G Champions?

For sure. They need to keep that starting 5 healthy and out of foul trouble. If they do, they could make some hay. Won't win it all of course, but Murphy and Coffey are good enough to carry them if they are on. If either on is off, it can goes sideways quick. They are going to be very tired tomorrow and especially Sunday if they make it that far, but the season is now a success in my book no matter what happens next. Need more depth on the roster to do much better.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2019 3:01:32 PM)

Oversma is possibly the wort FT shooter I have ever seen.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2019 3:01:33 PM)

Michigan is pretty big inside, giving Murphy problems.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2019 3:06:06 PM)

great play to get a wide open layup. [:o][X(]

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2019 3:12:08 PM)

They are a bad match up for us. Too much height for Murph to excel against. Having Stockman out is hurting.
