Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2011 8:07:17 PM)

Just think if Williams ever learns to be a real outside shooting threat.

What a drive to the hoop to put them up by 8. Explosive.

Mav wasn't too bad tonight. Wasnt' any worse than Devoe on D.

HUGE tests coming up.

Very sloppy ball handling out front by the bigs. Esp Iverson.

GopherFan34 -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2011 8:07:25 PM)

Nice job Nolan, Hoffarber, Williams. We need better production out of Sampson/Iverson, or this will be a long season. Mbakwe is a rebounding machine.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2011 8:45:13 PM)

PiPress Gophers Now
Tubby Smith just said officially that Joseph left the team.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2011 9:09:51 PM)

Mbrickwe needs to hit that jumper in the paint from about the dotted line. They're giving that to him.

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/4/2011 11:57:17 PM)

Great, tough win tonight. Caught up via Tivo. Embarrassing end to the 1st half; thought they were gonna blow it.

But they stepped up late and got the job done.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 11:46:38 AM)

Now is the time for Rodney Williams Jr to step up and deliver. Nobody else on the Gophers has the physical talent to do the things Williams can do. White is gone. Joseph is gone. Hoffbarber needs to run off 50 screens to score. Sampson is a tall talented underachiever. Nolan can't shoot the ball in the ocean from the end of a pier at high tide. Mbrickwe has an effective range of about 4.27326 feet. Williams is the one with all of the physical gifts. As an athlete, the kid is an absolute freak of nature. He has the explosiveness, he has the handle, he has the un-Godly leaping ability. It's time to step out of the shadows and be the man.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 11:57:22 AM)

Tubby needs to tell Williams to get real aggressive and a little bit selfish. Force the kid to develop.

Good stuff, imo.
Nails it for me.
Still thinking they are overrated, even after the drop.
This current team will win very few road Big Ten games.
Thats the measuring stick, imo. No way this team has the moxie to go into the tough gyms and win. No way.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 12:48:43 PM)

If we still had Westbrook we would be the front runner for B10 title.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 1:27:40 PM)

No we wouldn't.

Maybe he means the "Bitching 10" title?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 1:57:17 PM)

Why?  Give a reason at least.  I would think his offense would really be clutch down the stretch.  We have nobody that can create when we need it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 2:02:21 PM)

Williams could be the guy to create, if he was more assertive. Dang he needs to stand at the 3point line for 1000-2000 shots a day all off-season.

Because he was just as likely to make 3 boneheaded decisions down the stretch as hit big shots.

Westbrook just wasn't very good. He was fearless, but he was overestimated what he was capable of doing as a player.

If we miss anyone from last year, its Damien Johnson. He was the key to our defense. He could pressure any guard bringing the ball up, patrol the interior and still close out on 3pt shooters better than anyone on our current team.

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 3:46:38 PM)

Williams has never looked like a "natural" basketball player to me, but I still agree with you guys. He's got talent; let him learn.

I agree David. I think we miss Johnson quite a bit and Westbrook not at all.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/5/2011 4:16:59 PM)

I actually started typing that post as "Westbrook and Johnson" but took it out.  I agree with that.  I just think there is nobody on this team that we can count on down the stretch.   Any good team will take away Hoff's 3's at the end (that's assuming  he's hitting them).   That's all I meant with Westbrook, at least he would try and create.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 1:48:51 PM)

Be nice to have a player that could create their own shot

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 2:33:38 PM)

Buckeyes staying 5 feet away from all Gophers behind the arc except Hoff. I think they should just starting launching them instead of waisting 25 seconds trying to work it inside for a shot. Some of those shots will fall just like they do for other teams. Tuby is to disciplined for that though

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 2:48:49 PM)

Gophs making a decent game out of it with 4:00 left. Within striking distance.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 2:59:35 PM)

Down by 4 with 1:36 left. Odds still heavily stacked against us on the road in the Big 10......but at least we have a chance.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 3:00:44 PM)

Phantom foul after a horrible shot by Hoffarber

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 3:03:42 PM)

over-rated
over-rated
cha-cha-cha

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 3:05:12 PM)

Here we go!

COME ON!!! Not much discipline by the Gophers on offense there. Lucky to get another chance.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/9/2011 3:06:51 PM)

If Nolen can play like he did in the 2nd half, Joseph won't be missed.
