Isn't NW considered one of the best defensive pressure teams in the nation?

No.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/30/2011 11:10:16 AM)

hoffarbar has to start taking something from the pro game. He constantly had a player in his chest with arms flailing. He needs to start sweeping the ball through those hands in a shooting motion to draw the fouls. That's the only way he will get space to breath

I don't think he was going to get many calls yesterday if his life depended on it.

But this is every game. They share his jersey with him with the ball or without it

There is help on the way for team Tubby

quote:

Andre Hollins, the Memphis White Station High School basketball player who has signed with the Gophers, scored his 2,000th career point on Jan. 25, finishing with 28 points in a 70-60 victory over Whitehaven. The 6-1 Hollins has scored as many as 47 points in a game this season for White Station, which is 19-4.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 6:55:22 PM)

flopping in Bloomington.

With 12 minutes left, Williams and Sampson are 4 - 17

Williams can't shoot very well past the rim when dunking.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 6:57:01 PM)

And Hollins

2-11

Nice that offense is getting the right guys to shoot [&o]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 7:20:13 PM)

Finally have woken up, down 2 with 3:25 to go.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 7:38:02 PM)

Crushing loss. They have to beat Ohio State at home to get in.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 7:38:56 PM)

29% from the field won't get it done, and it didn't on the road.

True. False.

But yeah, we're no worse off without Nolen. [&o]

Kids are playing under fire. Will help in the future..but not good now.

Miss Joseph's basketball skills, but not the rest of that package.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 9:36:01 PM)

Hitting a paltry 37% from the field and a putrid 50% from the charity stripe isn't going to win many games. It isn't even good enough to beat a shitty team without its best shooter. Way to lay an egg boys.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2011 11:48:33 PM)

Crean's junk zones really messed with us. Some interesting looks the Gophers faced with the diamond-and-1 and triangle-and-2 -- force the middle, chase Hoffarber, and dare Rodney/Armelin/the bigs to beat you from outside.

On the plus, I really like Hollins. He is really smart, and he makes things happen on defense. And how about the big stepback from Armelin late in the game?  I love his guts and toughness, even when it leads to some stupid freshman decisions. Those two players will be big contributors for the next 3 years.

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2011 9:59:43 AM)

Agreed on all, Pete. I like Hollins a lot as well.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2011 10:05:33 AM)

I see Hollins' dad, Lionel, can't stand watching college basketball.

Sorry dad, but I can't stand watching the product you help coach.

NBA ball has become less worth watching as I've gotten older.

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/3/2011 10:13:04 AM)

I love the college game, and I don't think the NBA will ever be as good as it was in the Magic/Bird days again, but I'm really enjoying the NBA right now. Kind of like baseball, there's such a huge crop of great young stars in the game right now. And that makes it enjoyable to watch to me.

I think Bill Simmons wrote this earlier this year, but there's legitimately 2-3 VERY interesting games pretty much every night in the NBA now.

Especially the bigs in close missing their shots

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/4/2011 10:24:59 AM)

Wow, Larry Drew transferring.

He's not great or anything, but the Gophers should make a play for him.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2011 12:26:43 PM)

A win today could guarantee an NCAA bid. Even if everything else goes wrong for the rest of the regular season, the committee could look at this game and say "the Gophers are in."

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2011 2:12:58 PM)

Gophers just getting killed on the boards today. Uggh.

Sampson is a piece of crap. Might be the laziest big man in the country. It's like he's not even on the court on defense.

Sullinger is good, and is getting swarmed, but he's also overrated. The double standard with officiating on him is ridiculous.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2011 2:21:05 PM)

Thankfully the refs have called several obvious offensive fouls on the Buckeyes. If those had gone against us, I would have been livid.

What I don't understand is the hacking and mauling the Ohio State big men get away with. What does it take to get to the free throw line?

djskillz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/6/2011 2:22:07 PM)

Armelin needs to get more run. He's one of the few guys who's aggressive.

That's what I tried to tell panndder.

I wonder how the human interest stories are going today? This college hoops game has been a Godsend.
