Like 92% or something like that, sweet.

Sure glad they won, that was a pretty bad choke to end it, but stood tough in OT. One more to go, git R done.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 6:20:39 PM)

Rodney Williams is gonna be a super stud next year. Mbakwe will probably be back and he is what he is (10-15 points and rebounds each night, which you can't complain about). Andre Hollins will keep developing before our eyes.

I've been waiting for this.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 7:22:36 PM)

We are getting embarrassed. Only 28 points on the board with 13 minutes left in the game.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 7:25:19 PM)

Only big guy that's healthy is Ingram. That hurts. Guard play isn't up to par, either.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 7:50:45 PM)

Doesn't really diminish my excitement for next year, but this is some ugly basketball.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 7:59:57 PM)

Better team won.

MN looked slow on O and D.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/29/2012 8:00:46 PM)

Too bad the championship game had to go so poorly, but the whole post-season experience was good for the youngsters on the team. Next year should be interesting!

If Ingram doesn't somehow botch the easiest gimme in history at the end of the 1st half, it might have been a different game. I doubt it....but you never know how deflating something like that can be. No clue how he screwed that up.

Third missed uncontested dunk in 3 games. I think he gets nervous, and he's not really an offensive force as it is.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/30/2012 8:46:06 AM)

Yuck
That was some ugly basketball.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/30/2012 8:56:21 AM)

Did I hear right? Twenty turnovers?

Oh well, the post season experience was still very good for the young guys and hopefully will show in their play next season.

Had 21 turnovers the game before.

Obviously one area to have to improve on.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/30/2012 7:18:28 PM)

Seemed like more.
We had gone several games where it looked like there was no hesitation, the right people were shooting when open.
They went right back, imo, last night ... to the way they played in the B10 season ... tentative and stupid.
I'd rather see a blown jumpshot than a hesitation, a panic, and a throw-away/give-away.  Hate that kind of BB.

Armelin transferring.

Leaves another scholarship. Heard the kid from AZ likely was to transfer to Iowa State. Hoiberg already with more pull than Tubby.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/9/2012 8:52:19 PM)

As noted in Strib blog, that opens up a scholarship for Mbakwe. Would help tremendously.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/9/2012 9:25:43 PM)

Duuuuuuuuuuuude. Sid said Lockett (from ASU) would go to Iowa State. That pretty much means he won't. I think he'd like to come here if he knew he'd get 30 minutes a game and a scholarship. Hard to promise either, especially as they'll probably go back to a two guard lineup next year.

I enjoyed watching Armelin - kid was an enigma - but I get why he's going. The NIT run when he essentially didn't play sealed the deal. The emergence of Andre Hollins made it pretty clear that he was the third wheel in the group of guards. At least Ahanmisi is a natural (as natural as he can make the game look) point guard which is a position of need for us.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/16/2012 1:39:54 PM)

Announcing via a video (embedded below) that he has "unfinished business," Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe will officially return for another season with the men's basketball team.
Mbakwe, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury in late November, was recently granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. He had hinted he was going to return, but Monday's announcement makes it official.
"I think it is beneficial for many reasons. It gives me the opportunity to play another year of college basketball and hopefully contribute to a team that showed it can be dangerous," Mbakwe said in a statement. “It also provides me with the opportunity to leave the university with a Master’s degree. That means a ton to me. Not many athletes have that chance to get multiple degrees during their stay and unfortunately it took an injury for me to have this opportunity but I am going to take full advantage of it. I am excited to get back on the court with my teammates.”

Said Gophers coach Tubby Smith: “He has obviously proven to be a dominant player in this league and I have no doubt that he will return to the form that made him that type of player. He will certainly be a welcomed addition to next year’s team.”

Bo Ryan is getting raked through the coals. I find this amusing for some reason.

I've always suspected that I disliked Ryan. Nice to have some ammo now. What an ass.

Sounds like the VCU AD is going to be the AD here. VCU doesn't have a football program, but I'm still a fan of this hire. Slim chance that Shaka Smart would want to come work for his old boss once Tubby retires. [;)]
