Powerplay absolutely clicking right now.
5-2 suddenly

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/8/2008 7:03:43 AM)

Great game last night.  Refs let them play hockey.  Finish those chances off.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/8/2008 8:36:39 AM)

Exactly Jason.
Was a fun game.
Two very skilled teams.
Gophs had tons more chances and as you say, cannot finish.
Same old same old.
Coachs kid was brutal in that regard. Carman also.
Gaping nets, and they'd rip it 5 feet wide.
They weren't missing by inches, it was feet.
And of course, we always have to hit 4 or 5 pipes a night.
It's good to see one of the Easts best early in the year.
We shouldn't be worried about having to face them late in the playoffs, if we get that far.

Matt Dahl -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/8/2008 9:33:53 AM)

What were the SAG numbers last night?  From the bits I saw, the Gophers were dominating.  Why is it the opposing goalie is always winning POG honors?  It's because his save percentage absolutely blows away our goalie's save percentage.  These shouldn't be tie games.  If we traded goalies with the opponent before every game, I think we'd be in a lot better shape record-wise....running away from the pack.  I did not see the NH goals last night.  I hope they weren't soft.  Will try to watch the game tonight.  Might be time to give the backup G a chance in a non-conference game?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/8/2008 10:13:21 AM)

We took big leads in SOG early in every period, then kind of got caught towards the end of each period.
But still held a significant advantage, moreso in "chances".
Other teams seem to have skilled finishers, we have guys who are great right up until it's bury-the-puck time.
Vanek was our last "finisher"
You sound like me in our Championship years, Matt.
I honestly thought Hauser was the worst goalie I've ever seen in the college ranks.
Statistically and results-wise, we can all laugh about that right now, but at the time, I could not stand the man in net.
Once goalies give you that "feeling" where you don;t trust them, they hardly ever get it back.

Still, Foster finished with 39 saves while Alex Kangas stopped 35 shots for the Gophers.

OK, that's not bad.  After the game, they showed a montage of Foster saves.  Looks like he robbed about 5 sure goals.  Zacharius did the same thing in Game 1 against MSU.

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/8/2008 10:44:38 AM)

The passing is much improved over last year.  The DZone has been solid from what I have seen.  Less turnovers, protecting the puck.  The power play lacked power early, but must have clicked last weekend against MSU, I missed most of the series.

Simply have to find the back of the net.  They are working hard, playing tough and smart...the goals will come.  Those pipes were solid iron with the goalie clearly beat.

Kangas has looked very good, he wasnt brilliant last night but very solid.  Covers a lot of net, good on angles, tough keeper to get it past, seems to never get rattled...thats makes a difference to the rest.  Must have that keeper to make a run, Kangas has proven to fit the bill.

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/9/2008 6:32:01 PM)

Didnt see last nights game, 6-2 looks like they Finished!

3 points against another good team.  Great start thus far.

GO GOPHERS!!!!!

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/11/2008 12:46:08 PM)

Our young pucksters up to #2 in the Nation.
Great start to some promising careers.
Lets hope this group decides to make their college careers a priority the way Leopold/Potulney and Co did.
We NEED national title hopes in this town from someone.

For the fourth week in a row, the Gophers have moved up in the two major national hockey polls. And there is not much higher that they can go.
The U is No. 2, behind Boston University (6-1-0), in both the USA Today/USA Hockey magazine and the uscho.com ratings.
No. 3 and 4 in both polls are the two WCHA teams, Colorado College and Denver, that are on the Gophers’ heels in the conference standings.
Minnesota is 5-0-3 overall, 4-0-2 for 10 points in the WCHA race. CC and Denver are both 4-1-1 in conference play, which means each has nine points.
Besides the Gophers, the only other unbeaten teams left in Division I are No. 13 Air Force (8-0) and No. 14 Cornell (1-0-1).

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/15/2008 8:53:31 AM)

Missed my Friday night Gopher fix last night.
Weird Sat/Sun afternoon schedule this weekend.
Was fun to watch A-A beat the Susies last night, tho. [;)]

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/15/2008 1:56:02 PM)

A 2-0 start should get you back in the groove of things Scott.   I just turned it on in the last minute of the first period and plan to watch until the Gopher/Badger football game starts.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/15/2008 2:38:51 PM)

Si, Lynn.
Good start today.
Just getting on-line.
Dang work gets in the way of sports.
Hate it when that happens.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/15/2008 3:35:50 PM)

Yuck
Blow a 2-goal lead, settle for tie.
Expect better, boys.

Isn't that status que, one win, one Tie?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/15/2008 6:47:49 PM)

Yep, 4 series this year that way so far.
We'll see if they follow suit Sunday.

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/16/2008 9:44:41 AM)

How about moving your feet and using the speed advantage?  Brutal effort yesterday, lethargic, just showed up and expected to walk out with a win.  Win or lose today, I suspect a few extra killers in practice this upcoming week, have fun with that boys.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/16/2008 3:18:41 PM)

Gophers up 3-0 late.
Following script again.
Should hold #2 spot in the polls.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/16/2008 6:47:08 PM)

Take that back ....
BU lost today.
We could be #1 this week.
Doesn't really matter. [8|]

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/16/2008 7:08:25 PM)

GO GOPHERS!!!!!!!

Way to shut down Tech.  Big series against the Pioneers in Denver this week.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/18/2008 9:49:19 AM)

Gopher Hockey rises to #1 in the Nation .... where it belongs.
Nice that one team/program in the state can say it plans on contending every year.
Not for league titles, not for division titles .... for it all.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/18/2008 9:52:30 AM)

Way to go Gopher Hockey!!!    As you said, Scott, it's nice to have one local team that is solid and a contender.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/18/2008 10:52:36 AM)

Yeap, the Don continues to be one of the most under recognized coaches in sports.  And not just locally.

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/18/2008 11:31:56 AM)

You mean the Islanders GM was wrong about him?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (11/18/2008 11:56:31 AM)

5 points and a -6 so far for Mr. Okposo.  Perhaps he wasn't wrong after all?
