Even more "animated" was the guy who does the play by play for the Sioux! He was talking major trash!

When I first tuned it in I thought it was the Sioux coach talking, and I was pondering whether what he was saying would get him fined or suspended from the league. But it was just the radio dude - so I guess his hope that the Sioux win by playing dirty is acceptable.
[&o]

Lynn , we don't play any more aggressive than the gophers, teams have to learn not to let emotion get the best of them. Yes the Sioux do that at times as well

Hey - I was just going by what YOUR play by play guy said. He said they DO play dirty, but that he likes the results. Not my words. He actually said that wins were secondary, and more important was how many guys were in the training room afterward with injuries. And then he laughed.

I take homer play calling with a grain of salt. They all want to get their licks in but are not on the  ice.No slam ment to go towards you, sorry if it appeared that way

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/11/2009 2:23:10 AM)

None taken. It's all just chatter on a message board.

I worked tonight, so I missed the game. Sounds like a good one to miss. [:-]

Ass-kicking in GF

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/11/2009 11:42:48 AM)

Interesting Scott. I didn't see last night's game, but I watched the night before and saw some of the things you describe.

Does the league have the backbone to follow up with some fines or even suspensions? That could send a strong message.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/11/2009 11:57:13 AM)

Nope.
None.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/11/2009 12:24:22 PM)

The Gophers are never choir-boys in most incidents.
Shack played for one reason last night, and it wasn't to score goals.
I know Stoa's incident Friday night was inexcusable also. (And Woog's commments after it were un-acceptable as well)
Its what is troubling me, I just don't want to see a good thing (the rivalry) ruined by uncontrolled anger. (on either side)
Increase the number of penalties, don't encourage the behavior by saying "have at it, boys"

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/11/2009 1:25:45 PM)

Laske #19 for StCloud got just mauled by the goal last night. He was tripped by the bulldog goalie, then dropped as he got up again by number 17 of Duluth, then 17 gave him a head slam while he was laying on his back, what I mean by a head slam was he grabbed his face and bounced the back of his head off he ice. I was on the other and saw the trip and body slam live, but didn't see the head bounce until the replay....Luckly the officials figured it out and the Huskies got a 5-3 to end the 1st, they opened the 2nd with the same 5-3 and Laske sent a beautiful pass into the slot for the goal....The thing is the replay was kind of funny, and violators were busted, but in retrospect having a former hockey player who is about the same weight as Laske, maybe a little taller, kind of scary.

He didn't appear hurt although he could have been, stuff with the head.....no good. We kept seeing the Gopher score and figured they were just still tired from having all the guys gone.

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/12/2009 4:35:06 PM)

All Right time to get fired up for the best program in the nation.  Tough weekend in ND, lets wake up and get rolling.  No excuse for any Gopher team to get blown out, time to get to work and pay the price.  Going to be a very tough week of practice, one bad game is enough, two and can you say KILLERS again and again.  The legs feed the wolf and nobody was moving last weekend.

GO GOPHERS!!!!

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/12/2009 5:02:34 PM)

So what has happened to Kangas?

Nothing.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/15/2009 2:00:29 PM)

Hmmm, still waiting for word fromt he WCHA on suspensions for the UND player who decided to by-pass all the league rules and start his own brand of justice.
Hmmm, guess it's such a big announcement it must be taking awhile.....

What a joke of a league sometimes.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/16/2009 11:14:20 PM)

The Don is back and we wax wannbe-State.  Things are returning to normal [8|]

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/18/2009 12:37:02 PM)

Anyone still doubt "The Don"?
Best coach/manager/leader of any Minnesota team (Tubbys getting there)
Deserves ten times more respect than he gets.
National title contenders more than any other MN team. Pro or amateur.
Solid dude, solid program. Championships under his belt. Striving for more.
Great to see him back. Lets hope its for good.
The offense is back, now its time to tighten up the D and goalie spot.

Jason Dorn -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/18/2009 3:08:16 PM)

Back on track, good weekend until the 3rd of the second game.  When will they learn, good weekend, but you have to finish.  Keep driving them must be out of shape if they cant go the distance.  More killers this week I would think.  Good to see Coach Lucia back.

You got that right. I really enjoyed that comeback by the Huskies.  Fessler will be the best offensive player on StCloud by next year. Ben Hanowski, other kid that Dyl has played against will be there as well. BH has more potential, but I always liked Fessler's game better.

I am still having a little heartache over the boy's decision to study make a boat load of money and  stop playing hockey for the man.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/30/2009 8:02:46 PM)

I thought the Gopher home page would have a link to the score as this game plays out, but I'm not seeing it. Anyone have such a link, or know the score?

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/30/2009 8:31:36 PM)

Nevermind - I just went to the old standby - NCAA.com

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/30/2009 9:13:20 PM)

Yoips! I see the score at one point is 1-1 and the next time I look Mankato is ahead 6-1.[:-]

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/31/2009 8:45:40 AM)

This current group of Gophers has not yet wrapped it's head around the fact that they are the biggest game of the year for their opponent. EVERY night.
They are the target.
You have to know how to handle that when you slide on that sweater, and this group has no clue about that yet.
They look shocked when these other teams get all over them like spider-monkeys jacked up on Mt Dew.
THAT'S what happens to Gopher hockey players, just like it happens to the Yankees and the Lakers, and the Celtics.
You learn to bring it every night, or you get embarassed.
And we're getting embarassed this year at an alarming rate.

Matt Dahl -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (1/31/2009 12:30:45 PM)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....Kangas stinks.  OK, so he had to face a couple breakaways last night....but man...it's like his head just wasn't in the game at all.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (2/7/2009 4:18:19 PM)

Mixed bag so far. Men's hockey lost to the Badgers but the women made up for it by beating them. Now I'm crossing my fingers for a split for the men and a sweep for the women.

Let's go Gophers!

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (2/20/2009 10:41:00 PM)

Gophers working hard in this third period tonight. Couple of not pretty but count the same effort goals to tie game at 3.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (2/20/2009 10:59:07 PM)

Tony L. will see that missed opportunity in his sleep.

2 seconds left, point blank, just couldn't find the five hole.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (3/1/2009 2:20:57 PM)

Nice game Gophers. I thought they just looked crisper yesterday. Making better passes, fewer whiffs ... just some well executed plays.

WooHoo!

And way to go Gopher women!
